3 beauty products I actually buy myself

Because if I’m buying them with my own money, you know they’re that good…

After doing this whole beauty blogging thing for the past 11 years (yep, 11 years in April!), I very rarely buy myself anything beauty-related, except maybe the occasional toothpaste and deodorant (and, truth be told, I get those sent to me sometimes as well). The other day my friend Bryce asked a bunch of us beauty girls to share one thing they buy themselves and it got me thinking…I actually consistently buy myself THREE things that I don’t get for free so, you know, that’s saying something pretty big about these items 🙂

Narciso Rodriguez for Her: I actually remember, in detail, the first time I smelled this fragrance. I was leaving my college internship at Chanel for the day and decided I would take a quick peek into Barney’s because, you know, every unpaid intern in college should be shopping at Barney’s (#sarcasm). I walked up to the counter where the sales girl offered me a sample and boom- I was hooked. I’m awful at describing fragrance so I’ll take it straight from the website; it’s a modern classic, seducing with purity, grace and subtlety.  It’s a little musky, which I love, and it has hints of soft amber and floral notes…but the big kicker: I swear to god, every time I wear this perfume I get at least three compliments on it.

As a funny side note, shortly after my feature on Bryce’s site went live I got invited to an event for Narciso fragrances, and I now DO have a PR contact for the brand (though I definitely bought the bottle in the photo myself!).

Neogen Dermalogy Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine: The first time I tried this perfect exfoliator actually was from a PR sample; however, my contact over there since left the company, and I also really HATE asking for product refills (greedy much?) unless I’m tight with the PR person and know they have plenty to spare. I ended up spotting a good deal on Amazon and, believe me, I have no regrets.  These pads (love that you stick your fingers inside them to use), are my go-to for when my skin looks and feels a little ruddy and I’m too lazy to get a facial.

It’s chemical and manual exfoliation (the dream team) and you get 30, single-use pads that quite literally slough away dead skin cells and leave you with super soft skin…that also kinda smells like wine (and it does have resveratrol). My kind of exfoliation.

This is the perfect exfoliator whether you prefer chemical or manual exfoliation. With 30 single-use exfoliating pads, this product provides gentle yet effective exfoliation of dead skin cells and impurities, leaving skin smoother and clear. Dead skin cells are sloughed off the surface of the skin using the unique 3 layer pad technology, as lactic acid penetrates deep into your pores to clean out pore-clogging debris.

Girl Scouts Lip Smackers: When Lip Smackers teamed up with the Girl Scouts a few years ago I knew I had to have every single flavor, though I do especially love Thin Mint, natch.  My sister actually bought me my first “Party Pack” since I could only ever find the one offs and now whenever I spot them online I stock up because, believe me, they will eventually be gone forever.  Not to get too emo on you in the middle of Lip Smacker talk, but the one-year anniversary of my sister’s death is coming up in April and, as weird as it sounds, these Lip Smackers make me think of her and always put a smile on my face when I see them now.
