Because, I get it, sometimes sunscreen is annoying to put on…
Last year’s SPF post was pretty, pretttttty popular so I decided to do an updated 2018 version for all you guys who hate goopy, chalky sunscreen. I tested a few dozen sunscreens, by the way, and these seven are all 100% amazing; I, of course, still stand by last year’s favorites but these are all new-ish launches that I’m obsessed with (and you will be, too).
P.S.- if you haven’t already gone for your yearly skin cancer check yet, get on it and here’s some info on how to give yourself a self exam.
Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection WetForce SPF 50+ For Face/Body: This lightweight sunscreen (that’s also been my favorite for years) becomes more effective when exposed to water. Essentially, to activate the product’s WetForce technology, you have to expose the area where lotion has been applied to water for 15 minutes (or expose to perspiration for 30 minutes) and boom- you’ve got a superior sunscreen that also feels super silky and soft when applied. In fact, the brand did a test with 103 women (applying the formula to their face) and 96% said formula blends quickly into skin, 95% said the formula has an invisible finish, and 94% said formula was non-sticky. We have a winner, guys.
SkinCeuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50: SkinCeuticals is known for their amazing skincare technology and this SPF, in particular, is a favorite because it’s physical sunscreen but it’s also transparent and sinks right into your skin with out any dreaded white chalkiness (like many physical SPFs give you). This weightless sunscreen spreads evenly and dries to a matte, shine-free finish.
La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer UV Broad Spectrum SPF 30: This award-winning SPF is a new favorite of mine after learning all about La Roche Posay’s technology on a recent press trip. Formulated with a high concentration of La Roche-Posay Prebiotic Thermal Water and carefully selected skincare ingredients, this SPF (that can totally also be used as a daily moisturizer) helps protect and restore the skin barrier for healthy looking skin.
Coola Full Spectrum 360 Sun Silk Drops SPF 30: Perhaps one of the most intriguing SPF launches of the summer, I’ve been loving this organic face sunscreen that is not only broad-spectrum, but also protects against IR (infrared) and HEV (high energy visible). HEV light and infrared (IR) light can lead to premature aging and skin damage from the blue-violet and invisible light emitted from electronic devices such as tablets, computers, and smartphones (no bueno). They penetrate more deeply into layers of skin than the sun’s UV rays, thus accelerating aging, so I’m allll about watching that intake stat. The fast-absorbing SPF is vegan, cruelty-free and also TSA-friendly for travel.
Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40: Gel sunscreens are always at the top of my list to recommend when someone says they HATE sunscreen. This totally invisible, weightless, daily SPF actually grips your makeup while also giving you broad-spectrum SPF 40 protection against UVA, UVB, infrared, and blue light. The gel also helps with oil and shine control if you tend to be on the oilier side!
Jafra Royal Jelly Solar Protection Fluid Broad Spectrum SPF 50: I’m loving this new-to-me sheer, lightweight, and non-greasy SPF 50 protection fluid (with Vitamin C) but what made it stand out is the fact that it’s formulated with royal jelly. According to WebMD, “royal jelly is a milky secretion produced by worker honey bees.” And apparently this stuff is legit a miracle worker because it’s used for a TON of medical issues like asthma, hay fever, liver disease, pancreatitis, type 2 diabetes, diabetic foot ulcers, sleep troubles and a ton more. “It is also used as a general health tonic, for fighting the effects of aging, and for boosting the immune system.” I’ll bet on this one.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50: Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost line is a top seller for good reason. The water-light SPF has an instant refreshing feel and keeps your skin looking healthy and moisturized for up to eight hours without any greasy residue or white marks (but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to reapply every two hours!).
