A Hair Update

The old saying is true: “if my hair looks good, I can deal with anything“…

(hint: Click “read more” to see the back of my hair)

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a solid hair update and, my god, it feels good.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I went extension-free over the past 10-ish months or so but I definitely missed having thick hair.  My go-to extension salon is Just Extensions (and, no, they don’t pay me to say that) because they actually take the time to check your hair and figure out what kind of extensions are best for you and your own hair type.  I’ve used the Keratin tips the last few times and I’ve been really happy with the results; they’re lightweight and they don’t cause too much damage to your natural hair.

Byrdie.com posted a story recently that I thought really called out the honest truth about extensions that most people won’t tell you.

1// you absolutely NEED to cut the extension hair once it’s applied: Extension hair is NOT cut when you buy it, so it’s crucial that you find a stylist who knows how to cut extension hair into your OWN HAIR in a way that looks natural and, of course, doesn’t damage your real hair.

2// placement matters: If you have a cowlick or weird natural part, do NOT put extensions in those spots. Your natural hair will part and the extension will be easy to spot…trust me, I know from experience.  Also, make sure you don’t attach any extensions to baby hair or any hair that already has breakage—extensions need to be applied to the strongest hair you have.

3// switch to a sulfate-free shampoo: Gentle is the way to go when it comes to hair extensions and yours will 100% last longer if you treat them well.

  1. Thank you for the informative post. I have lost my thickness over the years, depressing seeing all my other friends flaunt their hair. I take a lot of multi vitamins (multiple kind actually), hasnt changed my condition. I am contemplating extensions too. Have dark hair about the same length as yours. How much would be the ball park cost ?
