Reader Question: How can I stop my foundation from rubbing off?

I went to a wedding the other weekend and I left a huge foundation mark on my cousin’s suit after I hugged him hello! It was SO embarrassing. What can I do to stop my foundation from rubbing off?

I’ve totally done the same thing and it’s the worst. Like, DO you say something? Or just pretend that you didn’t notice you wiped your face on someone shoulder? UGH, the worst. Here are are few tips that will definitely help:

Use a primer: Priming your foundation is always a good thing, but it also does a really good job of helping to “set” your foundation once its applied.

Use a lightweight foundation: Using a thick, creamy formula foundation means there’s a better chance of rubbing off since it’s simply more product on your face. Go for a light and/or oil-free formula and you should be safe.

Seal with translucent powder: This is an especially good trick when you DO use a heavier foundation, but if you’re worried about rubbing then put this stuff on every day to set your foundation.
