Reader Question: How Do I Reapply Sunscreen Over My Makeup?

woman under the sun and sharing how to Reapply Sunscreen Over Makeup

Hi Jamie!

It’s been SO HOT OUTSIDE here in NYC and I’ve been struggling cause when I’ve been hanging out I realize I need to reapply my sunscreen but I’ve already spent a good hour making sure it doesn’t melt off of my face, LOL. Any advice?

Thank youuu.

Hi M!

This is a great question and, like you said, very timely for summer.  So, here are your best options for reapplying sunscreen over makeup.

Oh, and a note for everyone reading: Don’t forget that you should always apply SPF to your face before you apply makeup, too. 😉

xo,

Jamie

3 Ways to Reapply Sunscreen Over Makeup

1// A makeup setting powder with SPF

Makeup setting powders are great for when it’s hot out, so why not use one that has built in SPF?

My pick: bareMinerals Mineral Veil Setting Powder Broad Spectrum SPF 25

This version from bareMinerals is completely sheer so it won’t mess with your foundation shade, etc.

2// Powdered Sunscreen

I’ve been raving about how much I love mineral powder SPF for years, and especially this one – it’s great for on-the-go (I keep one in my car since it’s powder and won’t degrade), and it’s also good for your scalp!

My pick: ColoreScience Sunforgettable Total Protection Brush-On Shield SPF 50

Like I said, I’ve used/loved this product for years and they recently improved the formula by adding hyaluronic acid for hydration, as well as proprietary formulas to help with antioxidant and pollution defense.  I seriously LOVE this stuff.

3// Makeup setting spray with SPF

Similar to the makeup setting powder, this is just in spray form!

My pick: Supergoop (Re) Setting Refreshing Mist SPF 40

This spray SPF is formulated for this exact purpose, which I love.  It’s got a matte finish and the subtle hint of rosemary and mint, which also I love.
