A few Fridays ago I was invited to spend the day in Malibu with Carrie Underwood, to help celebrate the Spring/Summer ’17 collection of CALIA by Carrie Underwood, her athletic/athleisure clothing and accessories brand. After a vigorous ocean-view workout (hence the #NoMakeup photo after the jump), a vegan lunch and chatting about how we’re both off the hair extension bandwagon, I was able to ask Carrie about her line and all things fitness motivation. Side note: I saw Carrie do an insane amount of push ups (not on her knees) when we working out, so this woman is LEGIT…
Three Questions With Carrie Underwood
What made you decide to start your own athletic clothing line?
I created CALIA so that every woman, no matter where they are in their journey, can look and feel their best, in and out of the gym. The overall inspiration for CALIA came from my desire to have clothes that fit my fitness-focused lifestyle and could take me through my day – from workouts, to errands, to rehearsals and more.
Can you spot me? LOL. (Right side, in front of the girl wearing the pink and grey pants)
How do you stay motivated to work out and stay fit? Any rituals or tips for when someone is feeling tired or unmotivated?
When I’m not on tour, I’m balancing being a mom, making music, trying to eat healthy, and staying fit. But despite all our crazy schedules, it’s so important to take care of ourselves throughout the day. Also, I try my best to fit in a physical activity every day, even if it’s not a workout in the gym.
I love to go for a run, especially when it’s warm out. I know that if I get in a workout I will immediately feel better and the work will pay off in the long run. Also, I like to track my numbers, what I’m eating and how many calories I’m burning. There are so many apps that can help with that. Comparing and tracking my stats keeps me motivated because I know I’m in the driver’s seat when it comes to impacting those numbers.
What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?
When I was 22 I had just finished “Idol” and my life was a whirlwind. I would remind myself that taking care of your body is so important. You don’t think about it when you’re young and you can eat anything, but turning those good choices into life-long habits really pays off.
