Thirty, Flirty and THRIVING…With a Black & White Affair

I’ve been putting this post off since March 9th (my actual 30th birthday) and I’m not quite sure why, aside from my usual lazy factor.  I think it’s probably because I’m pretty much terrifed to think about what 30 actually means to me; but, alas, here we are…and I’m TOTALLY thirty, flirty and thriving.  Jane, my best friend since 4th grade, texted me on my birthday and she was asking me how I felt, now that I’m 30.  My response?  I feel like 30 is the year that you accept yourself for who you really are, and not just who you aspire to be.  For me, I feel like it’s finally time for me to embrace the fact that I am a stone-cold weirdo, no pun intended.  At this point in my life (after 30 years of living!) I have a solid group of loving friends and family and they actually like me for me, so it’s time that I just say “hey, THIS IS ME, take it or leave it” to everyone that I encounter.  I’m so lucky to have all of the friends that I do in Los Angeles, especially considering that I knew about three people when I moved here 3.5 years ago!  Here are some of my favorite photos from my birthday celebration at Aventine Hollywood.

Happy Birthday, Kim Kardashian!

Today, October 21st, marks the birth of the infamous Kim Kardashian.  Here’s what I would give the E! reality star, if I actually knew her…or actually cared to buy her something.  What do you get the woman that has everything?  Well…even more stuff.  Kanye whisked her off to Rome for the weekend where I’m sure she’ll be showered in all of the Italian fashion anyone could ever dream of.  What would you give Kim K for her b-day?

Tarte Picture Pefect Curler & Deluxe Light, Camera, Lashes Mascara: Probably one of the prettiest eyelash curlers ever and perfect for Kim since she’s known for her dramatic eyes.

Gucci Snap Luggage Tag: Since Kim travels so much, she definitely needs a luggage tag with some style.

Nicholas Kirkwood Pearl-Platform Satin Pump: I’m in absolute LOVE with these heels and can totally see Kim wearing them, in her black and white house.

Sponsored Post: e.l.f.’s 7th birthday!

Who doesn’t love a birthday party?  I was recently alerted to the fact that  the super cute makeup line e.l.f. cosmetics is celebrating its 7th birthday and in honor of the celebration, they’re giving away 7 makeup brushes with any $30 online purchase!  This is an amazing deal.  I’ve always been a fan of the e.l.f. line mainly because the products are awesome and, hello, they’re also super affordable. Make sure to check out their Endless Eyes Pro Eyeshadow Palette (which just so happened to be featured as one of Oprah’s favorite things, btw) and my other favorite the new Natural Radiance Blusher which sells for, get this, ONE DOLLAR.

Birthday highlights and a Head Refresher

So I got my highlights touched up the other day at Nelson J Salon in Beverly Hills.  The color?  Amazing.  What’s even better is that they use Aveda’s specal dye that is bleach-free and 97% natural…I mean, I’ve been really into the whole “natural” thing lately and I have to say, I’m very happy with the results.  Nelson Chan, the owner, was extremely nice and even took the time to show me how to use hot rolllers which, ironically, I’ve never used.  Hot rollers are a lot better for your hair, and especially if you have extensions, like I do at the moment.

If you’re in the LA area, I definitely say stop into Nelson J and ask for the Head Refresher, which is what originally caught my eye at this salon. This unique service includes Aveda’s 99% natural hair gloss, a relaxing rosemary and mint-oil scalp and head massage, along with a signature Nelson J blow out.
“This Aveda hair gloss is wonderful because it makes hair very shiny and also refreshes hair color for up to two months,” Chan says.  “Plus clients get into a state of bliss with the Aveda rosemary and mint-oil applied to their scalp combined with the relaxing head massage.”

Good news- the Head Refresher is on sale now until April 1st for only $49!  It usually goes for $100.  🙂
