As much as you probably hate to admit it, the Kardashian empire is totally fascinating. Admit it. Kim has managed to, as Kanye puts it via song, become a “superstar from a home movie” so yeah, I’ll go and watch her host a beauty event for charity. On Tuesday, Kim Kardashian hosted the Midori Makeover Parlour at the chic Fred Segal Salon in Santa Monica. Dressed in a plunging green velvet Gucci dress and gold Tom Ford stilettos, Kim spent the evening hanging out with her mom, Kris, and mingling with partygoers. Guests received custom couture manicures inspired by Midori cocktails, including the Midori & Ginger Glitterbomb, and hair styling while enjoying Midori cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
It’s a sweet, sweet life for those Kardashians…but what’s Kim’s best beauty secret? Taking care of herself. She is “always excercising, washing off her makeup before bed, etc.” the reality star said. She even woke up early on the day of the event to squeeze in a workout with her trainer, Gunner Peterson, before leaving again this morning to head to Philly.
I only do a “get the look” when I, personally, want to GET that look. I saw Olivia at this party…and guys, her hair is exquisite. It’s that perfect, super shiny, thick hair that every woman dies for. BTW, she’s wearing an Armani dress, Jimmy Choo clutch and Bulgari jewels.
Celebrity hairstylist, Mika Fowler, explains how to get The Newsroom star’s look:
On wet hair, apply Wella mousse
Blow dry hair with a Denman roll brush
Clip back a portion of hair for volume
Spray hair with a light hairspray for volume (like JOICO finishing spray)
Use a 1 and 1/4 curling iron to wrap the mid-section and shaft of the hair
After curling, apply Wella Dry Wax, then toss hair
Choose some small pieces, around the face, and re-curl to create more volume and dimension
There’s one thing that I’ll never turn down, and that’s a free blow out. L’OREAL is one of those amazing beauty brands that’s basically involved with anything major and cool so when they invited me to their pre-Emmys beauty suite at The Four Season Beverly Hills and then to the Entertainment Weekly party, I was stoked. I had my hair done in my go-to “loose waves, high volume” style, a fresh pedi and, of course, had my makeup done.
This is the makeup village it takes to get me ready, apparently. And a big thanks to April, L’OREAL’s amazing makeup artist (and my neighbor!)
Obsessed with their new Nail Lingerie and this amazing shade of red (for my toes) called “Red Tote”
My favorite new House of Harlow 1960 double finger (you know I love those) snake ring, c/o L’OREAL. Manicure by ESSIE and you can see more images from ESSIE’s pre-Emmy suite (and me making crazy faces) HERE.
When I first saw THIS new Old Navy commercial with old Beverly Hills 90210 stars, I literally almost died. 90210 was a part of my childhood and I used to have a gigantic poster of Luke Perry up on my bedroom wall. Dream crush! Say what you will about Luke Perry and Jason Priestly, I want to know what Jennie Garth is using on her skin because she is REVERSE AGING. In the meatime, I reached out to Old Navy’s reps and got the details on what Jennie is wearing in the TV spot. Super cute.
I love, love, love Gwen Stefani and really, any time she graces the cover of a magazine, I melt a little bit inside. You can read the full article here and highlights are below.
On her body:
While she is (no pun intended) no doubt proud of her physique, it’s not Gwen’s favorite topic of conversation. “I hate talking about my body [all the time]; it’s ridiculous,” she says, referring to the number of times someone has asked how to get her six-pack abs. “There is no secret: You just have to eat healthy, work out, and torture yourself!” Jumping around onstage for a few hours for thousands of screaming fans is great cardio, and she says she hits the gym when her hectic mother-of-two schedule allows. “But it’s more for my brain than it is for my body.” Not that it’s all about mental health. On how she stays sample-size: “I like to wear clothes too much, so I try to keep focused.”
On her platinum blonde hair:
“Do you think Marilyn Monroe had to talk about this?” she asks, smiling. “Well, I heard she did hers with a Q-tip every 10 days, so I try to follow Marilyn’s rule.” I mention that she’s never been photographed with dark roots, and she points to the houndstooth fedora she is wearing. “And you’ll neversee me with roots either.”
On why she’s in it for the music:
“We didn’t even do it because we were trying to make it. Now everybody wants to be famous. It doesn’t even matter what you do,” Gwen says. “Let me tell you how that first record happened: My boyfriend had broken up with me and I was devastated, so I wrote all these songs. I didn’t even know I could write. I was just a girl who was in love with this guy, then suddenly I’m a songwriter, and I’ve gotten you back so good. I went from being nothing, from being an ordinary, nerdy girl, to having power.”
If you’re not already watching 2 Broke Girls, you should be. The show is absolutely hilarious in that “I shouldn’t like this, but I DO” kinda way. InStyle.com recently interviewed the blonde co-star, Beth Behr, and found out her hair care secrets, which I am promptly going to try. Beth has gorgeous blonde locks so she must be doing something right. Her secrets? Redken Color Extend Rich Recovery Protective Treatment. “I use the color masks once a week because they are really great. Redken has a really good one for blondes that I go to.” The actress also uses KMS California’s Leave-In Conditioner to help keep her golden locks silky smooth.
Rachel Zoe is undoubtably a force in today’s fashion world and she just launched (on Tuesday afternoon!) her first jewelry collection at Neiman Marcus, featuring bold, statement pieces – all of which I’m obsessed with. My favorites (pictured above)?
