My summer beauty essentials

So I realized that I always follow a very specific beauty routine in the summer. With the heat and humidity, a girl’s gotta know what works and what doesn’t…and here’s my list of faves.

DERMAdoctor MED e TATE: These little wipes prevent excessive sweating. Perfect for when you know you’re about to face the heat and you’re wearing fabric that shows sweat. Ew.

Earth Therapeutics Clean + Cool Foot Wipes: When walking around NYC all day in flip flops, you’re feet can get very dirty, to say the least. I clean off my feet at night before I get into bed with these pepperminty wipes.

Be fine Rough Spot Lemon Balm with Shea Butter & Avocado: Not only is the packaging super cute but after cleansing feet, it’s the perfect finish to moisturize any dry spot. It’s also good for elbows too!

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Spray to Go: This travel sized version of Oscar Blandi’s Dry Shampoo is fab to carry around in your purse or take on vacation.

Clinique Targeted Protection Stick SPF 45: You know when you’re walking around and enjoying the beautiful summer day but you can feel the tips of your ears burning? Is it just me? I carry this stick around in my purse for those random “wow, my skin is fair” moments.

L’Occitane Mosquito Repelent Towelettes: This product is incredibly hard to find, probably because it works so well. These lavender-infused towelettes repel mosquitos using geranium and citronella oils. A must for anyone visiting the “country.”

Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist: This spray (that also comes in a travel size) moisturizes both skin and hair with the Awapuhi flower. It’s cool and refreshing and great for the plane and beach.

Dr. Brandt Blemishes No More Cleansing Pads: With extra late nights in the summer, I can usually get pretty lazy about washing my face at night…but with these pads, I don’t even have to get out of bed.

L’Oreal Serie Expert SOlar Sublime After-Sun Nourishing Balm: The sun dries out my already bleached hair, making an after-sun conditioning treatment super important. This after-sun balm smells lovely and really does a great job moisturizing.

Round Up: Tinted Moisturizers

So I’ve never really liked using full-fledged foundation. I think it’s because my skin is very fair with freckles and whenever I’ve tried using a thicker foundation, it always end up looking fake and totally covers my freckles, which I’ve really grown to love. Anyhow, there are three tinted moisturizers that I’ve recently tried and am completely obsessed with. Tinted moisturizers are great for people like myself who need a little coverage to even out skin tone but who prefer a more natural look. Check out my faves below.

Clinique even better makeup SPF 15: Not quite a tinted moisturizer but might as well be with the results. This oil-free product improves the clarity of skin, helps improve clarity and diminish age spots in just 4 to 6 weeks time.

Prescriptives All Skins Mineral Makeup SPF 10: Brand new this month,

this longwearing liquid mineral makeup is infused with vitamins, minerals and the exclusive R.E.C. (Radiance Emitting Crystals –a unique complex of Amethyst, Rose Quartz and Calcite) to give skin extra luminosity.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15: This light-weight tinted moisturizer hydrates skin and imparts a natural-looking hint of color, oompa loompas need not apply. The SPF 15 is an added bonus for some superior sun protection.

So for any beauty lovers on your list, this is a great gift. The genius’ at Clinique have come up with a way to personalize the bottle by adding your own photo to the inside of the bottle. Smell good and be reminded of a funny photo…can’t beat that. Plus, the price is just right.

The Rules of Makeup

So I have this problem…I am a total and complete pack rat. On top of that, I frequently develop weird attachments to random objects, ha, I know. Anyway, this also includes makeup. I still have the first Clinque lipstick I bought so I could get the free gift with purchase, my first Mary Kay eye palette and the strawberry flavored Chapstick that my deceased Aunt bought me in Montauk…probably about 15 years ago. GROSS. Please don’t follow my lead. Experts say the following:

Eyeliner: Toss after about 3 years

Eye Shadow: Kept dry, powders can stay for up to 3 years

Lipstick/lipgloss: Time for garbage after 2 years

Mascara: 4 months max so watch it
