Halloween cocktails are always so fun and creative. I just tried out this delish vodka martini and, as if you didn’t already need a reason to drink, (BELVEDERE)RED(i.e. the vodka to use) donates 50% of the profits of sale benefit HIV/AIDS programs in Africa. Here’s how to create the cocktail at home:
INGREDIENTS
50ml (BELVEDERE)RED
12.5ml Honey water
Dash lemon juice
Fresh sage leaves
25ml pressed apple juice
Dash of Sauvignon Blanc white wine
INSTRUCTIONS
Muddle green grapes with honey water
Add rest of ingredients, shake and fine strain into a chilled martini glass
Liberal Arts – I watched this new movie randomly, on demand, and was left with the most AMAZING feeling when it was over. It made me think back to all of the things that I miss about college but also appreciate all of the things that I’ve LEARNED since then. The biggest takeaway: at one point Richard Jenkins’ character says, “I’ve felt 19 ever since I was 19 … Nobody feels like an adult; it’s the world’s dirty secret.”
READING:
How to Meditate: A Guide to Self-Discovery – I recently re-watched Eat Pray Love, which obviously always sparks that inner “what am I doing with my life and where is it going” question. I know it seems kind of silly to read a book on HOW to meditate cause, well, isn’t meditation just quiet time sitting with your legs crossed? You would think. I need to read a how-to book because I’m totally that girl in yoga that can’t relax and is constantly thinking “was that my iPhone that just went off?”
EATING:
Sauteed Vegetables: It’s probably the dumbest thing ever but I tend to go through food phase obsessions and, right now, I can’t get enough sauteed vegetables. Zucchini, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower…I don’t discriminate, it’s all delicious.
LISTENING:
No Doubt “Push and Shove”: My love for all things No Doubt and Gwen Stefani is, of course, forever but I’m not biased when I say that Push and Shove is A-MAZING. Seriously, No Doubt just gets better and better and I can’t wait to see them live on December 4th here in LA.
Sole Society Neve Platform Sandal: I love these heels. Love. Black and camel is totally going to be my fall staple color combination and they’re comfortable, to boot.
Forever21 Geo Cutout Necklace: I’m always on the lookout for fun statement necklaces and this faux diamond version is super cute but not blingy in that tacky way.
Tickets to No Doubt and Alanis Morissette: Go figure that two of my favorite middle school bands both release an album around the same time AND go on tour. I HAD to get tickets to No Doubt and Alanis when they’re in LA. It was a total necessity.
It’s my favorite time of year! POLO TIME. And yes, I’ve attended all three Veuve Clicquot Polo Classics…you might call me slightly obsessed but it’s just SO fun. Aside from being super chic, a ton of celebs attend the event, including Lauren Conrad, Ashley Green, Rachel Zoe, Mandy Moore and ton more.
Here are some fun party pics from this year’s event and, for even more photos, check out my friend’s blogs:
I spent an entire semester of college wearing an orange Hofstra hooded sweatshirt and black velour sweatpants. Why? No reason, in particular. It was winter in New York, which meant that it was cold and rainy and I had a weird class schedule that allowed me to sleep until 11 AM every day. It was pure heaven.
After seeing this story on pajama fashion and this photo of Rihanna wearing pajamas to a club, I was reminded of a conversation that I had freshman year of college with a guy friend (who I later dated). I’m my mother’s daughter in the sense that I think that every stranger I see is either A, trying to rape me or B, trying to rape me and then kill me. So naturally, when my roommate told me she was going across campus at 10 PM by herself, I insisted that she let me walk her. This plan didn’t really make sense since once she left, I would then be alone, so I asked the guy friend if he wanted to come for the walk. He said yes and I responded with “ok, cool…let me just change.” He stared up and down at my outfit, which consisted of purple drawstring pajama pants and a grey Hofstra sweatshirt and said “why are you changing?” This question confused me. Pre-college, I wouldn’t have been caught dead walking around in my pajamas…let alone with my hair in a ponytail. I was taken aback and became kind of frazzled by his response so I just murmured “ok, um…yeah, I guess this is fine…we’re just walking across campus, right? Haha.” I tried to laugh off my own silliness, even though I didn’t think it was so silly. Now, at 29, I LIVE for wearing pajamas and sweats. Granted, I usually wear nice sweats but nothing gives me more joy than not putting real clothes on for an ENTIRE WEEKEND. Here are a few tips on how to look chic while wearing your pajamas in public:
1-) Don’t wear anything with stains or rips. That’s homeless person chic, but not in that Olsen twin kinda way.
2-) Carry a nice bag. You might be wearing blue striped PJ pants from Target but you’re also carrying a $800 Alexander Wang bag. It’s called high/low, ladies.
3-) Wear expensive sunglasses. Aside from the fact that they add to the high/low factor (see above), they’ll also cover the dark circles and bags under your eyes…since I’m sure you also don’t wanna put any makeup on. Duh.
4-) Walk with an attitude. You’re wearing your pajamas. Outside in public. You need to exude that “I don’t give a shit” ‘tude and show everyone that you’re comfortable and you don’t care.
It’s National Vodka Day! Who knew? And since I’m a total vodka and tequila girl, here’s my favorite Moscow Mule recipe, using Russian Standard Vodka. The full-bodied wheat flavor of the vodka compliments the sweet and spicy ginger beer and allows the citrus from the lime to really shine and, of course, it’s best served in a copper mug. Enjoy
Ingredients:
2 oz. Russian Standard Vodka
4 oz. of ginger beer
1 lime wedge
Ice
– Build cocktail and ice over
– Add Rusian Standard Vodka
– Squeeze a wedge of lime and top with ginger beer
