The Monday Rundown

Rosemary Roasted Almonds: I always snack on almonds but this recipe takes them to another level.  I’m also obsessed with rosemary, btw.

Kiehl’s Orange Flower & Lychee Liquid Body Cleanser: I’m a big Kiehl’s fan and so naturally I was super excited when they sent me products from their new Aromatic Blends collection.  They’re all delicious but I especially love this exotic fusion.  Who doesn’t love lychee?

Sole Society Ryder Block Heel Sandal: At first glance I usually don’t like a thick, block heel like this but after seeing them in person, I’m really into the whole python mixed with patent look.

Jonathan Adler Prozac container: Jonathan makes the kind of home decor that I covet (along with a million other people) and I especially love his quirky, kind of ironic decorations such as this Prozac container.

Wine-inspired Beauty Products

Wine is probably one of my favorite things in the entire world and, on top of being delicious, it also actually has properties that are good for your skin!  Here are my favorite wine beauty product picks:

Stila Lip Glaze in Blackberry Purple Wine: Though it’s not wine-derived, the shade reminds me of my favorite red (from Napa) and Stila has the most amazing lip glazes ever.

Fresh Citron de Vigne Bath & Shower Gel: You know I’m obsessed with fancy shower gel so, naturally, I’m in love with this version…it has an effervescent citrus scent inspired by France’s Champagne region.

Caudalie Gommage Crushed Cabernet Scrub: This is a serious body scrub, just be warned.  It’s perfect for summer and I’ve been using it before I self-tan myself silly.

Wine Wipes: As someone who gets red wine mouth after like 1.5 glasses of red wine, these are a MUST for my purse.  You just swipe them around your mouth and teeth and voiila, red wine stains are dunzo.

The Beauty Products I’m Trying This Week

Here’s what I’m trying out this week:

Winks by Georgie Style No. 1: I always love the way my eyes pop when I wear faux lashes and the packaging for these is just so cute, I can’t help myself.  I’m gonna give these a whirl on Saturday night.

Dr. Hauschka Rosemary Leg & Arm Toner: I love, love, love Dr. Hauschka products and I’ve actually had this in my beauty arsenal for quite some time.  Right in time for summer bikini season, I’m curious to see if it truly does give my skin a “more youthful appearance.”  And, if it tones my arms and legs, well…even better.

Jane Iredale Magic Mitt: This facial towel claims to cleanse the skin with absolutely no cleanser– JUST the mitt.  I’m so curious on this one…especially since my skin airs on the dry, sensitive side.

Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Aging Eye Cream: There are so many anti-aging products on the market that it’s practically impossible to figure out what you really need in a skincare regimen.  I immediately grabbed up this product at the Lucky FABB conference last week once I saw the phrase “7-in-1.”  I mean, how can that be bad?  This product claims to fight dark circles, fine lines, puffy eyes, loss of firmess, uneven texture, uneven tone and dryness (yes, that’s 7 problems) in just one brush applicator.  Bring it on.

Chinplants: my thoughts

Truth be told, my neck has always been a one of those body parts that I loathe.  I blame my Nana because really, she started this shit.  She had the “turkey neck” and so did my Aunts (my dad’s older sisters- he’s the youngest of 5) and now, my 65 year old father even has it, what I also refer to as, “the curse.”  It’s one of those weird Wasp problems, I know, (and I’m so not a Wasp) but I notice it in EVERY PHOTOGRAPH of myself.  We all have these insecurities so don’t judge, k?  I’ve basically just learned how to LOOK DOWN in photos (see photo above)…

I am 100% honest when I admit that living in Los Angeles has absolutely given me a body compex that I never had while growing up in New York…and, while it’s upsetting, it’s hard to stop.  I have a very close family member that struggles with a severe eating disorder and listening to her/trying to understand her while growing up was one of the most painful things I’ve ever had to experience.  Someone who hasn’t been close to someone with an eating disorder can’t even fathom what it’s like; as an FYI, it’s NOT about the weight…it’s about the control and, as a bonafide control freak, I can attest to the fact that letting go ain’t easy.  While I’ve never technically had an eating disorder, being “body obsessed” has taken a toll on me that I’ve been trying to deal with and thankfully, I’ve manage to remind myself on the daily that I will never look like a runway model OR a size 2 celebrity but I CAN be healthy and fit.  With that said, of course, I still have my insecurities – my stomach, my knees (weird, I know) and my chin.  After I saw this story on Allure.com, I was honestly surprised to read that there’s a 71% increase in “chinplants” since last year.  And guys, I’ve always wanted a real chin, so no judgement…I’m just surprised that the motive behind the surgery increase is the fact that “people subconsciously associate a stronger chin with more authority, self-confidence and trustworthiness,” accoring to the Allure.com story.  My take on plastic surgery is: if it will make you feel better, go for it…but it’s NOT a band-aid (I can speak from experience).

While I  admit that I will probably end up getting a nip and neck tuck (hi, I’m vain), for now, I’m just using over-the-counter preventative measures: Kate Somerville Neck Tissue Repair with K8.  I’ve been using this for awhile, which proves absolutely nothing at age 29, BUT I believe in everything that IS Kate Somerville so when I’m 55 and don’t see the signs of “the curse,” I will send Kate a very personal thank you note (before calling the chief of surgery at St. Vincent’s).

Kiehl’s honors Earth Day with celebrity-designed packaging

If you read my tweets, then you know I have a major brand crush on Kiehl’s.  What’s not to love? Their products WORK and they’re very serious about several philanthropy projects, including Earth Day.  Who designed the gorgeous Deep Pore Cleansing Masque this year?  While it was hard to top last year’s designers (you can see here), Kiehl’s tapped Florence Welch, Rosario Dawson, Mark Ruffalo and Spike Lee to create limited-edition versions of the product, available online at Kiehls.com and in stores now – just in time for Earth Day.  Just an FYI, ALL PROCEEDS benefit Recylce Across America.  Pretty rad.

Check out InStyle.com to see all four designs.

Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution

My biggest skin complaint is by far and away the fact that I have hyperpigmenation (e.g. acne “scars,” which are really not scars but in fact, post-acne red marks).  It makes it really hard to just run out of the house with out at least throwing on some tinted moisturizer and honestly, it drives me crazy.  I was sent a bottle of the new Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution and so far I’ve been really impressed with the results.

According to Kiehl’s, 55% of women clinically demonstrated a significant reduction in dark spot intensity in as little as two weeks AND, in eight weeks, a whopping 87% of women demonstrated more uniform skin tone to deliver breakthrough clarity- sounds good to me.  The secret ingredient?  Activated C, a photo-stable ingredient that is 100% active on contact.  The complex slows down the production and transfer of melanin and is proven to have an anti-cluster affect on existing spots and imperfections, breaking them apart before they form.

Three Questions With Giuliana Rancic

I was super excited to get an invite from the fab skincare line DDF to an intimate pre-Oscars gathering with E!’s Giuliana Rancic.  Truth be told, I’m an avid E! News watcher and I truly admire G for her amazing work ethic and positive attitude, even though this is a very hard time in her life.  All challenges aside, the reporter told us a hilarious story about how she got to LA (highlight: she cried her way into staying at The Mondrian) and she even gave us the inside scoop on her three dress options for the 84th Annual Academy Awards!  And guys, she choose a dress we ALL loved- a gorgeous white Tony Ward that had all of us up in arms.  Speaking of which, she also filled us in on the fact that she was also going WITHOUT FOUNDATION for the second year in a row, thanks to the wonders of DDF, of course.

Giuliana’s makeup artist, Catalina Su, filled me in the exact steps she took to get Giuliana red carpet-ready, minus the heavy base:

Giuliana prepped her skin with DDF’s Amplifying Elixir and Wrinkle Resist plus Pore Minimizerand used the Revolve 400X Micro-Polishing System twice a week to polish away imperfections, making her skin look absolutely incredible without foundation.

Giuliana also wore DDF’s Weightless Defense SPF 45+ to protect her skin under the sun in addition to MAC’s Studio Moisture Tint. Tom Ford Beauty Extreme Mascara and Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner in Black Ink finished off Giuliana’s brown eyes and a touch of Chanel Espiegle Blush and MAC Fresh Honey Blush were applied to her cheeks. The fresh look was completed with MAC Viva Glam Lipstick giving the perfect pop of color.

Now onto the dish…

Q: What does Bill do when you’re on the carpet doing interviews?

A: He basically finds out everything on Twitter.  I come home and he’s all “I saw it!  You did great…did you really lei George Clooney?”

Q: Your hair extensions look amazing and natural.  Where do you get them done?

A: Byron & Tracey!  I go to them for color, cut, everything.  I have a girl who goes and buys the hair at this place on Wilshire and it’s great for the ombre look.

Q: What’s some good advice that you tell people who want to get into the business?

A: There are two types of people in Hollywood- some are down to earth and others have checked out of planet Earth.  The more grateful you are, the more good things will come to you.
