I hosted an event a few weeks back with Refine Mixers and let me tell you, I am obsessed with their ZERO calorie Margarita Mix (and no, they are not paying me to say that). In honor of National Margarita Day (yes, this is a real thing), here are two yum recipes…both under 100 calories and delicious.
We spoke with the pros at Wella Professionals, the hair brand who has a very impressive roster of red carpet hair under their belt already from this season, including Madonna, Michelle Williams, Claire Danes, Emma Stone, Zoe Saldana, Emily Blunt and Shailene Woodley, to get the inside scoop on what hair looks will heat up the red carpet this Sunday.
Graceful Sheen “We will see a peak in fluid textures and warm tones that suggest effortless elegance and healthy, shiny hair that shows a lot of movement and bounce,” states Wella Professionals Color Ambassador Aura Friedman. “Expensive and Luxurious are words you could use to explain this look – maximize this effect by asking your colorist to use Wella Professionals Haircolor to give you a soft shade with warm undertones that will best complement your skin tone.”
“Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier is a red-carpet favorite,” adds Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte, “that smoothes the hair surface so it can better prepare the hair for styling.” Andy also uses Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray on his clientele to create the most sheen and expensive looking finish to any end look.
Angelic Side-Chignons LeCompte predicts that celebs will lean toward classic styles with a play on texture and symmetry. “There will be a lot of deep side parts and loose ponys, bobs and chignons tied to the side.” This style can be customized to accentuate any gown, face shape or hair accessory. “It also lessens the stuffiness of that prom feeling and adds a more up-to-date, laissez-faire feeling.
The options here are endless, but no matter the look, you can use Wella Professionals products to perfect the end look. Apply 3-5 pumps of Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier hair primer to create an even surface on each and every hair follicle before drying the hair, creating a foundation for the most luxurious looking end-look. To keep a style looking fresh yet modernly undone, use a light-hold hairspray such as Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to hold the hair while keeping an overall sense of liquid movement.
The red carpet arrivals of the 84th Annual Academy Awards®, will be airing February 26th on NBC. Be sure to join Wella Professionals on Twitter and Facebook LIVE during the red carpet arrivals (between 4pm and 7pm EST), along with their special guest panel of hair pros Aura Friedman, Rick Wellman and Mark Garrison to get tips, tricks and commentary on the hair looks of the evening.
Can’t wait till then? Visit the red carpet tab on Wella’s Facebook page for tips and leave questions for their experts to answer.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil: My friend Andrea let me borrow one of hers awhile back and I was really impressed with how long it lasted, especially given the fact that most eyeliner runs down my face five minutes afer application most of the time. This eye pencil also has three fun, new colors- Demolition, Perversion (my new fave!) and Woodstock, all of which are fabulous.
Anthropologie Brassica Butter Dish: I have absolutely no use for a butter dish. However, I LOVE this. I would probably fill it with jewelry and leave it in my bedroom somewhere. That is all.
Blackberry Frozen Yogurt recipe: Ok, so it’s not quite summer, yet, but I came across this super simple recipe to make blackberry frozen yogurt and had to do it. Yum.
Awards season is always a good time here in sunny (though not today!) Los Angeles. Since some of the P&G beauty brands were the official sponsor this year, I got invited to a fun pre-Grammy party at MyHouse (and no, not my actual house) and then, lucky for me, MasterCard invited me to attend the actual Grammys this past Sunday. Of course, I became immediately obsessed with Rihanna’s custom Giorgio Armani dress and thought “my GOD, she looks AMAZING.” The cleavage, the back and, of course, the legs…which brings me to the new Venus & Olay Razor.
It’s not available until March 15th but I got my hands on one a little early and guys, it’s pretty awesome. You actually don’t even really need separate shaving cream (or shower gel, as I frequently use) because the Olay hydrators actually help the blades glide across your skin. Loving this…almost as much as I love Rihanna’s dress.
Here it was the first year…and here it was the second. Welcome to my third installation of my annual Anti-Valentine’s Day Gift Guide. I don’t do these because I’m down on love (I love love!) but instead, I like to find gifts that help me treat ME on Valentine’s Day. These are things that I want and would probably make my boyfriend buy me anyway…if I had one. Ha. That’s a totally different story…
It isn’t every day that I’m asked to host an event that’s honestly such a perfect fit for me. When I was approached by Refine Mixers, I was flattered and excited because really, what do I love more than a low-calorie cocktail and getting my hair done. Refine is now partners with BLO blow dry bar as their official cocktail mixer and guys, this stuff is awesome. The cocktail mixer is all-natural, sugar-free and has ZERO calories – basically, you can make yourself a margarita for less than 100 calories…and that’s just from the tequila.
Aside from Refine’s two drink choices of the night, Red Carpet Margarita (see below for the recipe!) and Champagne Cos-Blo, attendees had the chance to get their hair blown out in true red carpet fashion.
Putting it all out there, my life has been a little stressful lately and I’m at the point where I’m trying new things that I haven’t really been open to in the past. I mean, I never thought I’d ever read a book on Buddhism and I even tried yoga again (though I still kind of hate it). When I heard that LATHER just launched a new Clear Head Balancing Balm, I was pretty excited to try it out.
The Balancing Balm is basically an aromatherapy product that uses soothing emolliens and therapeutic essential oils to help ease pressure and tension, while also clearing the mind. You apply it to your temples, forehead, back of neck, etc. and it instantly gives you a sense of relaxation. I’ll be keeping this at my desk, for sure.
