Hard Candy…reinvented

So I can still remember when I bought my first bottle of Hard Candy nail polish.  It was a sparkly teal green called “Mermaid” and I was obsessed with it after reading the story about how Hard Candy was created by a med student trying to find the perfect shade of baby blue polish.  I just love crazy “look what I stumbled upon” stories like that…one can dream, right?  Well, that was a long time ago, and as of 2009 Hard Candy has been reinvented and is now sold at Walmart, all for less than $10.  A far cry from their original days of $12 polish.  I’m loving the new Holiday Collection and I think I’m about to re-live the 6th grade…

Michelle Roy jewelry

So lately I’m really into statement jewelry and I recently checked out a few designs by Michelle Roy.  They’re a little rock star, which I love, and are definitely conversation starters, which I also love.  My favorites?  Layered chain necklaces, snake pendants and studded rings.  Check them out (and more) at MichelleRoyDesigns.com.

Celeb Crush: Puck from Glee

So I’m slightly embarrassed to admit this but I kind of have a crush on Puck from Glee.  I know.  Mortifying.  Puck has a real name and it’s Mark Salling.  I’m sure I wouldn’t find Mark half as charming as I find Puck…which further proves how completely messed up I am when it comes to men!  Of course I’m attracted to the rude, bad-ass with a mohawk.  So typical.  And don’t judge me…he’s 26 in real life.  Check out this video of him singing “Sweet Caroline.”  Melting.

Reader Question: What’s a great (and cheap) face wash for acne-prone skin?

So I’ve been getting a lot of questions about skincare lately.  My reader, “C”, says:

Hi Jamie,

I loooove your blog!  You always feature amazing products!  Lately I’ve been breaking out a lot but I’m completely broke.  What’s a good face wash for my skin if I break out a lot?

Personally, I’m a believer that a classic is a classic for a reason.  Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne Wash is a long time favorite of beauty editors, bloggers and consumers alike.  The packaging isn’t pretty or flashy but this stuff really does the trick with it’s pimple-fighting ingredients like 2% salicylic acid.  Even though most acne fighting products are made to destroy oil and will usually dry out the skin, my normally dry skin stayed moisturized and zit-free while using this.  However, the trick to fighting acne is finding a good skincare regimen and STICKING to it.  So C, if you decide you like the Oil-Free Acne Wash, make sure you use it consistently to see results!  Good luck and let me know how it goes. =)

Xo,

Jamie

Halloween 2009: Philosophy i love candy corn

So, um this is awesome.  There’s something about this Philosophy i love candy corn 3-in-1 shampoo, shower gel and bubble bath…I think it reminds me that I’m totally still a kid at heart and what’s more exciting for a kid than candy corn and Halloween?  Candy corn makes me go back to my elementary school days…how about you guys?  This would make a great gift for a Halloween party hostess too!
