Refine your body, hair & spirit event (hosted by me!)

It’s not every day that I find a way to combine three of my favorite things (low calorie cocktails, getting my hair done and working out ) so when Refine Mixers asked me to be the blogger host for their event with Blo Blow Dry Bar at Equinox West Hollywood, I was giddy with joy.  We sipped on Honey Tangerine Margaritas and Kiwi Cosmopolitans (only 100 calories each!) as guests enjoyed Blo’s braid bar and Equinox’s mini massages.  Check out Guest of a Guest for more photos from the event.

Woodstock Birthday Party

As you read here, I had a fun birthday dinner on my actual birthday but, because I’m basically a birthday baby, I decided to have a “going out” birthday party with Sydne (her birthday is March 20th) and we decided on a Woodstock 1969 theme.  We had the party at my friend’s bar in Hollywood, L Bar, which I highly recommend, by the way.

At first I was a little bit apprehensive since, well, I like to look sexy on my birthday but I ended up finding a dress that I really liked along with amazing hair, courtesy of Drybar West Hollywood and makeup by Blushington!

The Hair Files: Balayage at Warren-Tricomi (and a head shot preview!)

Truth be told, I’m a total slacker of a blogger as of late.  For those who don’t know, I recently launched a hilarious (if I do say so myself) new website called AnnoyingAtTheGym.com and guys, finding those hilarious photos take some serious work.  I somehow let it slip through the cracks that back in October I got to visit the famous Warren-Tricomi salon in West Hollywood and I’m not quite sure how this happened, in all honesty.  It’s probably what I like to call “balayage shock” because as you’ve read before, I have an almost unhealthy obsession with my hair color and I discovered that THEY DO BALAYAGE AT WARREN-TRICOMI LOS ANGELES.  It requires all caps because, believe it or not, this quite rare on the left coast.  My girl in New York introduced me to balayage and I’ve been hooked ever since I realized that it’s beneficial for the following reasons: (and yes, I’m using bullet points cause that’s how serious I am about this)

  • They allow for “freehand highlighting.”  With foil highlights, you take four or five inch sections of hair at a time and sometimes you wind up overhighlighting your hair because of the large surface area.  Balayage allows for more strategic color application since the stylist paints pretty much wherever they think you need it.
  • No foils = less brassiness.  Brassy blonde hair is the devil, according to me.  Foil conducts heat and processes hair faster and more aggressively, which is one of the main causes of that gross orange color that happens to me.

But I digress.  My appointment was originally with Kaz Amor who I was desparate to see after talking to Nadine Jolie about who did her hair such an amazing shade.  I met with Kaz and he took at look at my hair…he immediately said “you know what?  Have you ever tried balayage?”  It was like he could read my mind.  I pretty much gave up on even asking stylists in LA if they did it…so I was pretty much speechless when Kaz said, “I would love to do your hair but I really think balayage would be the best thing for you…and I have someone else here who does it REALLY well.”  SOLD.

And the result?  Well I recently had head shots taken.  OK, you can laugh.  Please feel free to comment “ooooh my god.  Jamie you are SO LA now.”  Yes, ladies, I now have head shots.  But you know what?  My hair color looks damn good…so say what you will about selling out, but you can’t knock the hair.

P.S. – this photo is un-touched…I’m still waiting on the photoshopped version where you will most likely confuse me for Heidi Klum.  Stay tuned.

The Monday Rundown

Pier 1 Felt Roses Pillow: I’ve been trying to add more red into my living room for awhile but I haven’t been able to find the right red pieces…until now.  I’m obsessed with this rose pillow (I bought two!) and they look fab on my bright blue couches.

Rainbow Cookies: With Thanksgiving coming up this week I’ve been feeling a little homesick for New York.  In fact, my Dad even sent me an email listing out all of the Italian-style Thanksgiving food that I’ll be missing (I know, right?) including some of my favorites – spinach lasagna, manicotti and, of course, rainbow cookies for dessert. Sigh.  This recipe is pretty bomb though…if only I knew how to really bake.

House of Harlow 1960 Orlina Python Clutch: I went to an event this past Saturday at Fred Segal West Hollywood to celebrate Nicole Richie’s House of Harlow 1960 Holiday Collection and I fell in LOVE with this python clutch.  I didn’t actually purchase it (yet) but I’m seriously contemplating…

Clarisonic Mia Skin Cleansing System: Everyone loves the Clarisonic but now it comes in JAGUAR print.  I kind of want a new one now.

Emmy Facials at Kate Somerville

When you live in Los Angeles, it’s really hard not to catch Emmy fever.  Even though I’m not actually attending the Emmys this year (or last year, or the year before that), I still use this “Emmy week” as a reminder that hey, I really need a facial to get my skin “red carpet-ready,” even if the red carpet is really just my tan carpet that resides inside my apartment.

On Thursday night, I was treated to the signature Kate facial at LA’s infamous Kate Somerville Clinic in West Hollywood in honor of the award show and ugh, yeah…boy did I need it.  First, let me say I’m in love with the signature facial – it starts off with enzymatic exfoliation and extractions followed by a customized treatment mask.  I, my friends, had way more extractions that I normally do which did not make this girl happy one bit!  But, on the bright side my dry, sensitive skin does really well with Kate’s products (as you can read here) and when I left I was super excited to receive a few of the newer products including the True Lash Lash Enhancing Eye Makeup Remover so stay tuned for a review on that soon.

Missoni for Target (because everyone else is doing it!)

Missoni for Target, it’s the hot topic of the week!  I’ll admit, I’m always intrigued by the Target diffusion lines but necessarily always impressed (at least not since my navy Anna Sui for Target dress of 2009).  BUT, this new Missoni for Target line…yeah, it looks pretty impressive.  I’m hearing friends whisper about how they’re lining up at 6 am at the West Hollywood location…but me?  I don’t know if I have that kind of dedication.  If I did, here’s what I’d snag (available September 13):

I don’t even live on the west side (e.g the area of LA where people actually ride beach cruisers) but I still, obviously, want this.

Blowfish Malibu Spring/Summer Collection

In additon to never turning a party down at Soho House, I will also never reject any kind of pedicure.  I was invited to a fun night of pedis and sandals courtesy of Blowfish Malibu and so basically, I couldn’t ask for a better night.  I sat back, enjoyed some champagne and got a pedi with a gorgeous coral Essie color and chatted with my girl, Allison McNamara from FabSugar!

Of course, the perfect ending to any pedicure is…a new pair of shoes.  I left with the Makai sandals in grey, which I actually wore out of the nail salon and on to the Radio Shack party (where LMFAO performed) and they were chic yet still really comfortable.
