Three Questions With Alanis Morissette

Alanis Kiehls

My words can’t accurately describe the feeling you get when you interview one of your all-time favorite musicians…it’s really just astounding, for lack of a better word.  Luckily for me, Kiehl’s hosted their yearly Earth Day event at their Santa Monica store and I was given the opportunity to interview non other than Ms. Alanis Morissette.

Kiehl’s Since 1851 celebrated its Limited Edition Ultra Facial Cream, to benefit Recycle Across America, with its partners Alanis Morissette and Zachary Quinto, each who designed a limited edition label for the product.  100% of the proceeds of this Limited Edition Collection will benefit Recycle Across America–$50,000 will be used to create 65,000 recycling labels for  select K-12 schools nationwide.  So get it now.

Q: What made you decide to partner with Kiehl’s on this initiative?

A: I think standardized labeling is important…so people know where to put what and regardless of past efforts and goodwill, there’s been a lack of clarity that this organization will help with.

Q: What’s your favorite song on “Jagged Little Pill” (one of the best albums ever)?

A: I can’t really pick a favorite, but I’d say that I think “Mary Jane” was the most meaningful for me since it’s so emotional.

Q: What’s the best part about marriage and what’s the worst part?

A: The best part is that I actually have a friend and we’re helping each other out…the worst part…I don’t really have a worst part right now.  You know marriage is challenging, marriage is not for the weak of heart, but I don’t really have a worst part.

And, of course, here’s my obligatory photo with Alanis…had to, sorry.

Three Questions With Coco Rocha

Coco Rocha is one of those effortlessly chic and amazingly NICE super models that you actually want to be friends with.  I never thought I’d say that about a supermodel…or ANY model, for that matter, but after chatting with the Banana Republic Mad Men Collection (available starting TODAY!) spokesperson, I’m totally #TeamCoco.

Q: What’s your favorite piece in the Banana Republic Mad Men Collection?
A: (This dress here)  It’s a bold statement…you want to be the person everyone’s looking at going ‘wow, where did you get that from?’

Q: What advice would you give yourself five years ago?
A:
Five years ago…that’s not that long ago, but still far enough…I think about being a model and the jobs that I chose, I didn’t have a voice for myself…I think that I could’ve reassured myself that you know what, what you’re doing IS ok, you know what? Go for it.

Q: What are your top three favorite beauty products?
A:
I’d have to say, it’s all makeup-related.  I wear makeup every single day, even to the grocery store, so I’m not that model that doesn’t wear makeup.  I’d have to say eyeliner, you can do a lot with it.  Cover up, because I am very, VERY fair so my freckles come out (she loves L’OREAL Magic Smooth Soufflee) and a good contour cream.

See the FULL INTERVIEW HERE.

Me, in the same dress Coco is wearing…yeah, GREAT decision. LOL.

Three Questions With Beth Behrs

I had so much fun at the L’Oréal Golden Globes party, hosted by their makeup artist Billy B and Beth Behrs from 2 Broke Girls, that I obviously had to ask her to be featured in my 3 Questions With section.  If you’re not already watching 2 Broke Girls, you SHOULD BE.  The show is absolutely hilarious, and so is Beth.  Here are her words of wisdom:

Q: If you could give your 22-year-old self any advice, what would it be?

A: Always stay true to who you are.

Q. What’s the deal with Caroline’s signature pearl necklace?  Did you have any say in the decision to go with that particular necklace?

A: Nope! (It) was all the brilliance of our costume designer, Traycee! Now I feel naked without it!

Q. What are your top three L’Oréal products and why?

A: Any of their lip glosses, mineral concealer, mineral foundation – because you can throw all three on and have a natural looking glow and it takes less than 2 minutes to accomplish!

Three Questions With Cherry Petenbrink, On-set Hairstylist for “The Hunger Games”

If you’ve read The Hunger Games, then you know exactly how vivid the hair styles and colors are that are described in the book.  Taking that into account, Lions Gate Entertainment turned to Joico stylists Linda Flowers and Cherry Petenbrink to re-create the hair color concept for the entire film.  Flowers and Petenbrink devised an artistic interpretation for the unique, futuristic setting of the film, while staying true to the expectations of the legions of fans eager to see the movie.

Q: What was your biggest “hair color hallenge” during the filming of The Hunger Games?

A: The biggest hair color challenge was rinsing.  Most of the color was prepped prior to filming Capitol scenes, but there were occasions when the sinks in the ladies (bath) room had to be used.  Also formulating and achieving a huge variety of different shades and hues to keep all of Capitol color interesting.

Q: Besides the actual novel, what was your biggest inspiration when cboosing hair colors and styles?

A: Lucky for me, I’ve been creating amazing trend-driven hair color for trade shows, runway and editorial images through my affiliation with Joico for years.  I was able to utilize this knowledge and experience for inspiration.

Q: Did any of the stars give you creative input?  If so, who and what? Which Joico products did you use on them?

A: Honestly, the direction was given by our department head, Linda Flowers, and could only be achieved with Joico Vero K-Pak Color Intensity. I also relieve on Vero K-Pak Chrome to achieve the beautiful brunette (shade) seen on Jennifer Lawrence.  It’s demi-permanent so it can be refreshed with a more dilted formula…there are also reconstructive properties in the K-Pak color, so hair remains strong, healthy and shiny.

Three Questions With Giuliana Rancic

I was super excited to get an invite from the fab skincare line DDF to an intimate pre-Oscars gathering with E!’s Giuliana Rancic.  Truth be told, I’m an avid E! News watcher and I truly admire G for her amazing work ethic and positive attitude, even though this is a very hard time in her life.  All challenges aside, the reporter told us a hilarious story about how she got to LA (highlight: she cried her way into staying at The Mondrian) and she even gave us the inside scoop on her three dress options for the 84th Annual Academy Awards!  And guys, she choose a dress we ALL loved- a gorgeous white Tony Ward that had all of us up in arms.  Speaking of which, she also filled us in on the fact that she was also going WITHOUT FOUNDATION for the second year in a row, thanks to the wonders of DDF, of course.

Giuliana’s makeup artist, Catalina Su, filled me in the exact steps she took to get Giuliana red carpet-ready, minus the heavy base:

Giuliana prepped her skin with DDF’s Amplifying Elixir and Wrinkle Resist plus Pore Minimizerand used the Revolve 400X Micro-Polishing System twice a week to polish away imperfections, making her skin look absolutely incredible without foundation.

Giuliana also wore DDF’s Weightless Defense SPF 45+ to protect her skin under the sun in addition to MAC’s Studio Moisture Tint. Tom Ford Beauty Extreme Mascara and Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner in Black Ink finished off Giuliana’s brown eyes and a touch of Chanel Espiegle Blush and MAC Fresh Honey Blush were applied to her cheeks. The fresh look was completed with MAC Viva Glam Lipstick giving the perfect pop of color.

Now onto the dish…

Q: What does Bill do when you’re on the carpet doing interviews?

A: He basically finds out everything on Twitter.  I come home and he’s all “I saw it!  You did great…did you really lei George Clooney?”

Q: Your hair extensions look amazing and natural.  Where do you get them done?

A: Byron & Tracey!  I go to them for color, cut, everything.  I have a girl who goes and buys the hair at this place on Wilshire and it’s great for the ombre look.

Q: What’s some good advice that you tell people who want to get into the business?

A: There are two types of people in Hollywood- some are down to earth and others have checked out of planet Earth.  The more grateful you are, the more good things will come to you.

Three Questions With Whitney Port

Whitney Port is pretty much just adorable, so when I was offered the chance to interview her on behalf of Crest 3D White, I had to obviously ask her about her teeth and her holiday wish list. Duh.

Q: Why did you decide to partner with Crest 3D White?

A: When Crest 3D White approached me with this partnership it seemed like a perfect, natural fit as I was already a huge fan!  After I tried Crest 3D White 2 Hour Express Whitestrips, I started recommending them to all of my friends and family because they are quick, convenient, so easy to use and work great to get a whiter, brighter smile in just two hours.

Q: If you could give your 22-year-old self any advice, what would it be?

A: To not be afraid of the future, take more chances and live on the edge!  Be more spontaneous!

Q: What’s on your holiday wish list this year?

A: Cozy socks, comfy blankets and cooking classes.

Three Questions With Alyson Hannigan

I recently attended an intimate breakfast with Alyson Hannigan for the iconic haircare brand, Head & Shoulders.  The brand recently launched a great initiative called The Good Girlfriend Guide where Alyson and some of my girls (Aly and Amber!) give tips on how to be the best friend you can be to all of your girls.  I admit, I was kind of geeking out to meet Alyson since I’m such a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. Don’t hate!  Buffy was the original vampire show…deal with it.  Here’s some insight from my lunch with Alyson, most of which involve vampires.

Q: What made you decide to partner with Head & Shoulders on The Good Girlfriend Guide?

A: This is what I needed in high school.  My girlfriends and I were lost since we didn’t have older sisters or anything.

Q: Do you get annoyed when you watch other vampire shows like Twilight and Vampire Diaries?

A: Ooooh yes.  On my show, vampires didn’t sparkle.  I have to tell you, I have this thing where I don’t invite people into my house…I just wait for them to enter to see if they can come in!  I guess that’s what happens after you work on a vampire show for almost a decade.

Q: Were you always a red head? (after discussing her ginger baby daughter)

A: No!  Joss (Whedon) had us all over to his house and Charisma, Sarah and I all had brown hair at the time.  Joss seemed a little confused and told us that all of our hair is kind of the same shade.  He asked “does anyone want to be red?” I was like “sure! I’ll do it!”  Sarah got more and more blonde but I stuck to the red.
