The Best Hostess Gifts

the best hostess gifts

It’s kind of a weird feeling when you start to realize that a LOT of your friends are moving in with their significant others, getting engaged and buying houses, which is why I decided to stock up on a few items that everyone will love – here are my top five picks for the best hostess/host gifts.  These gifts are guaranteed to be loved by anyone, I promise.

1. Diptyque votive candle trio: As you already know, I’m obsessed with Diptyque candles and, in fact, I featured this trio in my holiday gift guide as well.  What I love about this trio, as opposed to buying just one candle, is that the hostess can then try three different scents and even burn them in three different rooms.  This is an AMAZING gift, guys.  (hint, hint).

2. Anthropologie DIY friendship bracelet kit: Obviously this gift is best for a woman but let me tell you, it’s a winner.  Even if your friend isn’t super into DIY, this kit is really easy and fun to use.

3. Fortune cookie box: I love this.  It’s chic and quirky and you can even add in your own fortune, custom for the hostess/host.

4. Black Hawaiian sea salt: Fancy salts are very grown up, that’s a fact.  My friend Jen bought me a little jar of black truffle salt for my 30th this year and it was honestly one of my favorite gifts.

5. Tokyo Milk octopus bubble bath: Clearly I always default to giving beauty products as gifts, duh, but when presenting for a hostess, presentation is key.  The octopus bubble bath packaging is not only amazing, but the design is chic and fun.

POPSUGAR and P&G Beauty Holiday Gift Q&A with Jamie Stone

You probably saw my post from last week where I shared the link for POPSUGAR’s live holiday gift guide, where yours truly was featured as the “commercial break.” Yes, yes, it’s true.  Apparently I’m doing commercials now. Ha.  Jokes aside, I had a blast filming this P&G Beauty-sponsored holiday gifting video and hopefully there are many more to come!  And, if you haven’t already, make sure you check out the Olay and Old Spice gift sets I feature in the video- they’re awesome!

Holiday Gift Idea: for the nephew

So I have to tell you- I have FOND childhood memories of The Children’s Place.  I don’t know why on earth I actually remember shopping there, but I do.  My mom used to take me to the kids only store for all my new clothes and I remember they had these awesome circular things that you could climb in and out of and, of course, I spent all my time there climbing in and out while my mom picked out things and showed them to me.  “Jamie, do you like this?”  I look.  “No!” I scream and go back to playing in the circles.  Ah yes, I was a difficult child when it came to my attire.  In fact, I only wore the color green (or greenish/blue) until I was about 4 years old, no joke.

Anywho, when I was offered the chance to attend a The Children’s Place shopping event at their The Grove Farmer’s Market store, I jumped at the chance.  My little nephew Mark will be two years old at the end of January and now I’m totally the cool Aunt who bought him tons of trendy new clothes.  I think what surprised me the most is how trendy the children’s stuff really is…I mean I picked out things for Mark that I’d love to see an adult guy wear- distressed denim jeans, toggle coats, graphic tees- amazing.  I simply can not wait to give him all the new stuff I picked out for him- Best. Aunt. Ever.

St. Patrick’s Day Gift Guide

So St. Patrick’s Day is totally the forgotten holiday when it comes to presents and being raised in a predominantly Irish and Italian area of New York, St. Patrick’s Day was always a HUGE deal and a big celebration in school as well.  Since this is my first St. Patty’s in LA, and there aren’t many Irish people out here, I decided to call a little extra attention to the biggest drinking day of the year.  And, as my freckled counterpart, Ashley Brady, says “on behalf of Ireland, we thank you.”

Sue Devitt Hydrating Marine Minerals Eye Palette in “Green Isles”

This beautiful Destination Eye Palette just screams the rolling green hills of Ireland to me.  The colors, though green, are universally flattering and blendable.  I’m kind of in love with this palette.

Michelle Roy is known for her trendy and fun designs and I’m really into both of these pieces.

Wood and coral stretch bracelets with charm, SRP $58

Chain with clover, SRP $72

Erin Condren is one of those brands that people instantly fall in love with and if you’re super Irish, you NEED some St. Patty’s Day paper goods like these gift labels, flat note cards, folded greeting cards, etc.  Best of all- the entire St. Patrick’s Day collection is 20% off!!!

Gift Idea: Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt’s book “How to Be Famous”

So you’ve probably heard about Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt’s book, How to Be Famous: Our Guide to Looking the Part, Playing the Press, and Becoming a Tabloid Fixture.  I mean, there are no words.  I haven’t actually bought a copy of this book but from the Amazon.com summary, I automatically thought this would be the PERFECT holiday gift for your celebrity-obsessed friend or wannabe actress friend.  Hilarious.  Here’s the Amazon summary:

From braving the wilds of Los Angeles to the Costa Rican jungle, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have learned a thing or two about reality…television, that is. But while dominating the airwaves and tabloid covers every week may look like all fun and mind games, Speidi is here to tell you: becoming wildly famous requires hard work and a no-fail blueprint for success. Now, for the first time ever, Heidi and Spencer invite you behind the scenes as they reveal the ten-step plan that took them from nobodies to notorious! You will:

  • Learn how to say I hate you without opening your mouth–Heidi’s exclusive tutorial
  • Increase your capacity for evil with Spencer’s “Villain-o-meter”
  • Discovery why getting and talking about plastic surgery is a must
  • Unlock the secrets of celebrity couple math (e.g. Speidi > Heidi + Spencer)
  • Mesmerize the media with outrageous behavior
  • Bow down to the power of the paparazzi

…and much, much more!

woman sitting in her couch and sharing Things Making Me Happy

Hiiii friends!  I have a good feeling about this week and I’m not sure why, ha, but let’s go with it.  I have a bunch of holiday gift guides coming at you starting tomorrow and, personally, I’m looking forward to shopping for my nephew (though my gift guides clearly have nothing to do with an 11-year old) 🙂 Enjoy!
