Because I used to think they were all BS…
There are a few kinds of beauty products that I’ve always questions. Makeup primers? Eye cream? Yep. Makeup setting sprays? Absolutely. Until maybe a year or so ago. Since I discovered that, similar to makeup primers, a good setting spray actually really DOES prolong your makeup I’ve been totally sold.
Aside from that, it also helps prevent smudging and creasing, which is something I’ve noticed more as the years go on (thanks, crow’s feet).
Here are my current four favorites…
Do you guys have a favorite makeup setting spray?
Estee Lauder Set + Refresh Perfecting Makeup Mist: This one is probably the most glam of the bunch and I love that it really does instantly hydrate and soothe your skin as soon as you spritz it on. This version from Estee Lauder also has electrolytes and caffeine infused into the formula to really instantly boost your skin.
Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: Probably the most infamous of the bunch (i.e. it won an Allure beauty award), this version from Urban Decay keeps your makeup on for up to 16 (yes, SIXTEEN) hours!
Intersting fact: This clinically tested formula features patented temperature control technology. It actually lowers the temperature of your makeup to keep foundation, eyeshadow, blush, and concealer in place—even in hot and humid or cold and windy conditions. How cool is that?! (no pun intended).
Too Faced Hangover Rx 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray: I was drawn to this version from Too Faced because it’s actually a three-in-one product! It works as a makeup primer, makeup setting spray AND a makeup mid-day refresher. Its unique blend of coconut water, probiotic-based ingredients, and skin revivers work together to hydrate and brighten skin, promote skin’s elasticity and tone, while smoothing your face and makeup. Love.
Cover FX High Performance Setting Spray: This is definitely my winner as far as “clean” beauty setting sprays! It’s weightless, alcohol-free and really does lock in your makeup for a full day. Oh and did I mention it also has pollution protection infused into it? I desperately need that after all the fires here in LA.
