When you get invited to an event for makeup artist legend Pat McGrath at Chateau Marmont, you go. That’s a simply-put understatement, trust me. I’ve been lusting after this launch since news first broke and since you guys know I love me a lip kit I was excited to test this baby out- Kylie’s got some MAJOR competition, guys. Fact.
I decided to test out Pat McGrath Labs Lust 004 Lipstick Kit in Flesh (available Thursday, unless you’re a Sephora VIB) since I’m all about a pretty nude-y/pink but there are two other options if this shade isn’t your jam. You can also buy all THREE versions of the kit (at a discounted price) OR just the solo matte lipstick.
Real talk: the matte lipstick is fab but you’re really missing out if you don’t get the full kit experience.
The five-piece kit give to two “sinfully” pigmented matte lipsticks, a clear vinyl gloss, a metallic gold pigment, and microfine glitter which, yes, is just as fabulous as you would think.
Step 1: Apply the lipstick- it’s surprisingly hydrating for a matte lipstick and after trying Kylie’s matte lipstick as well I’m beginning to think we might be seeing more of the this when it comes to matte lip products in the future, which is perfection. You can’t really see it in the photo but I actually had a small cut on my lip from biting my lip in my sleep (yep, I’m 33) and this stuff went right over the cut and even hid it well!
Step 2: Apply the gloss over the lipstick for tons of shine AND to help the glitter you’re about to apply really STICK onto your lippies.
Step 3: I decided to skip over the gold pigment (another reason this is great- you can totally mix and match) and went right for the microfine glitter.
Apply the glitter is actually pretty fun- you just lightly dab onto your lips and the clear gloss holds it in perfect place.
Some pretty major shine, no? I’m hooked.
I also can’t NOT mention the fact that each lip kit comes packed in sequins. I kept them obviously, because how chic is that?
