Because pimples are the WORST…
Back when I was dealing with cystic acne in my early/mid-twenties, I would’ve bought ANYTHING (seriously, anything) to make my acne go away. I tried anything I could get my hands on and, honestly, most products didn’t really work well. Cystic acne is actually much harder to treat than the normal blackheads and other kinds of acne, but over the years I’ve tested enough products to know what actually helps. These are four of my all-time favorites:
Alba Fast Fix for a Pimple: Small in size, inexpensive and free of harsh chemicals. This lightly tinted spot treatment has willow bark extract and sulfur (one of the BEST acne-fighting ingredients) to blur the zit, while also treating it. I carry this around with me for any zit emergencies.
Kate Somerville EradiKate Mask: All of Kate’s products are on another level but this gel-cream mask can be used all over your face OR as a spot treatment, and I absolutely love it. The formula gently exfoliates dead skin cells while colloidal sulfur works to unclog pores and reduce acne blemishes. The foam-activated technology penetrates to help dissolve impurities, dirt, and oil from the skin. Of course, I love a good clinical study, and according to the brand, 88% of testers saw a reduction in the number of blackheads in only ONE WEEK. That’s pretty sweet.
Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: This stuff is a beauty editor favorite, and with good reason. I use this stuff as a spot treatment and with just one drop of this Drying Lotion on a surface pimple or whitehead, the zit will heal almost overnight. The formula uses calamine (yep, the old-school pink stuff) and salicylic acid. Oh and as much as you want to shake the bottle, don’t do it. You only want to apply the pink part on your skin.
Murad Clarifying Wipes for Blemish-Prone Skin: I love a good face wipe and I actually use these once a week even when I don’t have any breakouts, just to get a little gentle exfoliation. These babies help keep skin clear by removing dirt, bacteria, and pore-clogging oil.
