5-Minute Makeup Routine

Because it’s all about saving time in the AM…

I’m definitely what you would call a makeup minimalist, most of the time.  When it comes to my daily routine I’m not about to waste precious sleep time (can you tell I’m not a morning person?) in exchange for some kind of intricate makeup routine that ends up looking really ridiculous in the daylight anyway…can I get an amen?  This is my go-to makeup routine that I’ve perfected over the past decade or so.

What do you guys think? Would you add or take away anything?

I have dry/sensitive skin so I don’t wash my face in the morning.  Instead I usually give my face a quick cleaning with a makeup removing wipe, mostly just to get off all that mascara and eyeliner that seems to come out of nowhere overnight!  Lately I’m loving Simple Skincare Micellar Makeup Remover Wipes because they use their smart cleansing bubbles to attract and lift makeup and impurities out of your skin without leaving it dry or tight- so important when your skin is dry and/or sensitive.

Sunscreen is next, obviously.  I like to use a version with a lighter texture, since it’s going under my makeup, and I’m loving Clinique City Block Sheer Broad Spectrum SPF 25 for just that.

Depending on how my skin is that day, I wait until my SPF sets in and then I apply a primer. I actually just tested Covergirl Outlast All-Day Primer and I LOVE it- seriously, my makeup stays put all day and doesn’t move at all when I use this stuff.

Next up is foundation and you know I love this stuff!  Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15 has been one of my favorites for years now.  Aside from the perfect amount of medium coverage and a little boost of broad-spectrum sun protection, this makeup is actually proven to improve clarity, skin tone and even diminish age spots in about 4-6 weeks.  I can’t think of anything else to ask of a foundation.

Next step: get interrupted by a cat. This time it was Gea 🙂

Under-eye concealer is next!  I dab just a tiny amount under my eyes to cover any dark circles, and to de-puff and brighten (fun times getting old!).  I’ve been using Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer for Under Eye and, guys, this stuff is serious business.  Side note: in a pinch this stuff also works to cover any zits or blemishes that might pop up since it’s high coverage and a little goes a long way.

A quick swipe of some neutral eyeshadow, cause I’m too lazy for anything intricate.  My go-to is L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Eye Shadow in Perpetual Nude since it has four shades that all work for day time.

Eyeliner is my jam and I love to line just my waterline with a deep black gel liner like Urban Decay 24-7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion.

And you guys know I also love my Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (blogged about HERE).

Lastly, I finish things off by hydrating my usually-dry lips with a little lip gloss.  I switch things up quite a bit but I’ve been loyal to Neutrogena MoistureShine Lip Soother SPF 20 for YEARS.  It’s one of the best!
