Because sometimes I let too much time go by in between visits to my colorist…

5 Root Touch-Up Products That Actually Work

I’ve tried a few dozen root touch-up products over the years and, honestly, haven’t been extra impressed by any until recently.  And since I’m the first to admit that I consistently wait about one to two weeks too long in between salon visits, I really wanted to test out the latest root product launches to find ones that actually work for blondes, but also for brunettes, redheads, etc.  Here are five that I genuinely love…and a shout out to my colorist, Dawn Tracey, for being patient with me and not yelling at me for “waiting too long” LOL.

LÓreal root cover up Root Touch-Up Products

L’Oreal Paris Root Cover Up:

What I love about this root cover up, in particular, is that it’s specifically designed to cover up GRAY hair. Personally, I have this annoying little white streak right around my forehead and this quick-drying formula has been a life-saver when it comes to covering up that little patch.

Kristofer Buckle Scalp Cover Duo for Root Touch-Up Products

Kristofer Buckle Scalp Cover Duo:

While not a root cover up technically, this scalp cover is AMAZING. It gives your hair the look of a little more fullness. For me, when my roots grow out, I always feel like my hair looks thinner. I’ve been using this on my scalp and my roots don’t even bother me when I do!  Applied directly onto the scalp, the camouflaging cream blends and conceals sparse thinning hair and bald spots, while the powder helps set the cream in place, adding the look of body and dimension to your hair.

Rita Hazan Root Concealer Touch-Up Spray for Root Touch-Up Products

Rita Hazan Root Concealer Touch-Up Spray:

This version is also great for gray hair. What I also like about Rita’s formula is that it’s super buildable as far as how much pigment you want to get!

Oribe Airbrush Root Touch-Up Spray for Root Touch-Up Products

Oribe Airbrush Root Touch-Up Spray:

I had high expectations for Oribe’s version and I was NOT disappointed. For starters, the packaging makes it insanely travel-friendly (it’s so small and compact!). Also, the formula does a great job at covering grays and reviving my highlights between color appointments.  The quick-drying powder formula also absorbs dirt and oil to refresh hair…bonus.

Everpro Back2Blonde

Everpro Back2Blonde:

Everpro’s Back2Blonde was by far the product I was most excited to try after watching a few YouTube reviews of it.  Sure, it’s specifically for blondes (sorry, everyone else), once you actually try it you will be super impressed.  Prismatech pigments self-adjust to match and blend visible dark and gray roots. The actual formula only takes about two minutes to dry.  While, sure, you can see I still have some rootage in the before/after shots below, my roots are noticeably less dark after spraying this on!
