6 Natural Deodorants That Actually Work

Because, let’s be honest, natural deodorant isn’t always so great…

Here’s the thing. Whenever the topic of natural deodorant comes up in conversation with friends, the first response is always “ugh, I tried it and it doesn’t work.”  One friend even told me “I honestly smelled like a barn animal the entire time that I tried natural deodorant.”  Believe me, I get it.  The first time I tried it myself, I ended up with ARM PIT ACNE.  Yep, that’s right. Both underarms totally broke out with pimples and I was totally beside myself/super confused.

Am I going to tell you switching to a natural deodorant is a must? No, I’m not.

The truth is, the main reason people switch is because they’re worried about the aluminum in their regular deodorant but, according to experts, “aluminum compounds have been a big red flag for many years because when we hear the name aluminum, we automatically think neurotoxin and that we’re going to immediately get Alzheimer’s. The truth is that there are no definitive, substantiated reports. I like to get over the scare-mongering aspect of that ingredient. A lot of people can search the internet and be totally freaked out.”

BUT, if you’re looking to switch because you generally just like a more natural product, you will 100% love my favorites below…just fair warning that it can sometimes take up to 30 days for your body to adjust to a natural version so I definitely recommend using a detox mask (I mention it in the last photo in this post!)…

kopari Natural Deodorant

Kopari Coconut Deodorant

This one is great because you’ll smell like coconut milk!  There’s no baking soda (which is what I suspect gave me arm pit acne the first time I tried a different natural brand), and it’s not sticky or gross.  Another bonus: for every online order, the brand will donate $1 to the Fuck Cancer organization.  I also just really love smelling like a coconut…

boscia natural deodorant

Boscia Charcoal Deodorant

The formula of this powder-spray version has purifying black and white charcoal.  It helps absorb wetness, draws out impurities, and eliminates odor and it does a REALLY good job.  Free of aluminum and talc, the unique, finely-milled formula is lightweight and can be used anywhere on the body that needs extra wetness removal and odor control.

Primally Pure Sensitive Deodorant in Lavender

So, this version does have a smidge of baking soda, but it didn’t mess with my skin at all.  It’s also fortified with kaolin clay (powerful detoxifier) and non-nano zinc oxide (soothes irritation + combats odor) plus other good-for-you organic ingredients including grass-fed tallow, fair trade coconut oil, arrowroot powder, beeswax and essential oils.  The lavender helps with irritation, calms inflammation and combats bacteria…plus it smells good. Another winner here!

The packaging drew me in, obvs, and it looks super cute on your bathroom counter.  This baking soda-free version teams up potent plant oils and mineral powders with a sweet citrusy Grapefruit scent in a convenient push-up paper tube (that’s also biodegradable).  Oh and the grapefruit scent is very mild so don’t stress about that if you’re not a grapefruit lover…

P.S.- The lavender bergamot and lemon eucalyptus versions are available on Amazon Prime!

Lavanila Vanilla + Water for Peace Deodorant

Lavanila Vanilla + Water for Peace Deodorant

Inspired by the core elements of nature – Earth, Air and Water – this is an aluminum-free deodorant. It’s infused with carefully curated blends of pure essential oils that bring the elements to life and impart a unique sense of being.  Soothing essential oils blend with powerful anti-oxidants and beta glucan technology for daily defense. It also has nourishment and superior, long-lasting odor protection.  This natural baby was hands-down the most recommended when I asked around for natural deodorant favorites and I totally see why.

Lavanila The Healthy Underarm Detox Mask

Lavanila The Healthy Underarm Detox Mask – Natural Deodorants

Like I mentioned at the beginning of the post, switching to a natural deodorant can take up to 30 days for your body to adjust. Also, I kind of just love the idea of an underarm mask, don’t you?  This revolutionary, all-natural mask is specially formulated to rid the underarm of buildup and impurities. This is while uniquely speeding and easing the switch to natural deodorant.

Environmental factors and sweat-stopping formulas can leave buildup. Sometimes, worrisome residue in the underarm that leads to lumps, bumps, irritation, concern, and a long transition to natural deodorant. This all-natural mask—powered by active charcoal, malic acid, and silica—works like a magnet to help absorb and draw out buildup and impurities to detoxify, beautify, and transition the underarm.

In a consumer panel study:
– 93% felt that using the mask during the transition to natural deodorant eased and shortened the overall transition
– 90% felt that the mask left their underarm smoother and lighter
– 90% felt the mask helped eliminate traces of buildup in the underarm area

  1. Would love to try a natural deodorant, but I am a super sweaty person, which makes me nervous to try them! Any other heavy sweaters out there eve try any of these and had success?

    • I typically sweat a lot during the day and the natural deodorants I’ve tried have been good like Primally Pure mentioned above. I typically reapply once in the day, especially before a workout!

  2. How do we measure up? Lume is clinically proven to control odor for up to 48 hours!
Lume is also natural – no aluminum, no baking soda. No need to detox and change your pH levels since we don’t have the baking soda that most natural deodorants have, that’s how they delay your skin irritation.
