What caught my attention
The fact that it literally took over the internet…and I had to wait legit FOUR MONTHS to get one. They sent me updates via Facebook Messenger, which actually really annoyed me/confused me. How did they get my Facebook info?! They essentially stalked me on Facebook, which reminded me of a date I had a few years ago where the guy openly told me he found my YouTube channel while I was in the bathroom. OK. Annnnyway…
What it claims to be
A makeup sponge from a Hong Kong-based company called Molly Cosmetics. The inner material is made from silicone and the outer shell is thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)—a flexible plastic that’s resistant to oil and grease. The whole idea behind it is that you don’t use as much foundation or concealer because the SiliSponge, unlike regular makeup brushes, doesn’t absorb any makeup product. It’s also way more hygienic since you just have to clean it with a little soap and warm water until all the makeup runs off.
What I thought after our first “date”
I’m into it. Working the foundation into your skin with this sponge does take a bit of getting used to since it’s pretty dense and we’re used to those brushes that absorb everything. However, I’d say I probably used about half the normal amount of foundation that I would normally use, and that’s a win in my book. Also, I really do love the hygiene factor…I HATE having to clean my makeup brushes because they just never seem as good or fresh after I do so.

Even though the official SiliSponge is readily available now (no more insane wait list!), I found an almost identical version on Amazon for a lot cheaper AND you get two instead of one. And, hello, it’s on Amazon Prime.
