Because these are my summer skincare must-haves…
Let’s be honest…this summer. Well, there are no words, lol. Summer 2020 will always go down in history as maybe one of the weirdest. And, of course, scariest summers of our generation. But even with all the craziness and sadness going on in the world, both with Coronavirus and politics, it’s still important to take care of yourself and your skin.
Summer is different depending on what part of the country you’re in. Some areas get super hot and humid, and some areas (like here in California) get a little hot but mostly stay mild and dry. Because of all of these weather changes, it’s important to change up your summer skincare regimen by adding in a few summer “booster” products, as I call them, you know? Reality is, you should always be using a broad spectrum SPF every day regardless. But summer is a a great time to also add in a scalp/hair part SPF, a super strong foot moisturizer, etc. Here are eight of my summer skincare product must-haves…
8 Best Summer Skincare Products
Shiseido Clear Stick UV Protector WetForce Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50+
I’ve this chic-looking SPF stick for years and, in fact, Shiseido’s sun products are really just amazing in general for those beach days (and, of course, non beach days as well). That said, their clear stick sunscreen is a favorite since it works well under or OVER MAKEUP. That’s right – when you find yourself feeling like your face is getting burned you can apply this stuff right over your makeup and it still works wonders. It’s also really easy to carry around in your purse since it’s so small. Making it perfect for those “oops, I forgot about my ears!” moments. On top of that, the brand’s patented WetForce technology provides the skin a protective veil from the sun that actually becomes stronger as it comes into contact with water or perspiration.
JAFRA ROYAL Boost Play It Safe Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30
Blue light damage is something we’re all talking about. And especially during a time when screen time is up more now than ever. This SPF from JAFRA not only protects against UVA/UVB rays and pollution, but it also contains a blue light shield to defend against the daily assault of mobile, computer and television screens as well. Wear on its own or under makeup you can thank me later. Full disclosure: JAFRA is my marketing client but I truly do love this product!
Sonya Dakar Blue Butterfly Balm
It’s no secret that I love Sonya Dakar (she was on my podcast HERE). But one of her new-ish launches, this Blue Butterfly Balm, is true heaven on my skin. Packed with highly potent extracts of the blue butterfly pea flower and 20 other botanicals, this luxuriously rich balm melts into your skin, activating its calming aroma and skin-soothing properties. It melts into your skin like an oil and legit instantly provides relief and a radiant glow to dry, rough, and/or irritated skin. A few other notes: it’s great for windburn, sunburn and even eczema! Basically, it’s your skincare all-in-one, but especially for the warm weather summer months.
MegaBabe Bust Dust
What comes with warm weather? Boob sweat. Since I’m pretty much always sans bra these days, I bought this Bust Dust to help stop the underboob sweat (it’s real, guys), and OMG does this stuff work well! The ultra-fine, 100% natural powder is made with bacteria-fighting lavender and soothing chamomile, and definitely prevents annoying sweat stains from seeping through your top. I also want to note that this product is talc-free (talc has been linked to cancer), and the applicator is non-aerosol. A must for any summer skincare routine.
Supergoop! Poof 100% Mineral Part and Scalp Powder SPF 45
Speaking of powders, this part and scalp SPF 45 is another MUST. I did a blog post before this product launched on my favorite scalp SPF (scalp sunburn is very real, ladies), and this version from Supergoop! is a new favorite. The powder is mineral-based and, in addition to SPF 45, it also contains silica to absorb excess oil, and vitamin C to provide antioxidant protection. It’s non-greasy and kinda works like a dry shampoo…just with an added boost of SPF 45, of course. I can’t even explain how important it is to protect your scalp from sun damage…just trust me.
Ole Henriksen Cold Plunge Pore Mask
I blogged about this mask in my 5 things getting me through quarantine post and it is STILL a favorite.
This face mask, inspired by the “cold plunge” part of a Scandinavian sauna cycle, not only looks cool AF but it works to detoxify, cool your skin AND reduces the look of pores. My skin felt insanely smooth after the first time I used this stuff AND my facial redness was reduced to boot. It’s also verrrry IG-friendly, just sayin’.
Lux Unfiltered No32 Gradual Self-Tanning Cream
I’ve followed Sivan on Insta for awhile now and after buying her self-tanning cream, I was VERY impressed. Not only does the self-tanner smell amazing (it has a light rosewood scent), but it also gives you a super natural-looking tan, and it’s easy to apply.
Infused with shea butter, cocoa butter, and passion fruit oil, this gradual self-tanner will leave your skin dewy and bronzy. Easy to apply, no funky smells, no build-up, no sticky residue. #Approved not only for summer skincare, but even better in the winter.
Barefoot Scientist High Dive Intensive Hydration Cream
Lastly, with the lack of pedicure situation (yeah, we lost that privilege here in LA), I need to make sure that my feet are super hydrated since I tend to get dryness from walking, etc. High Dive is hands-down the best foot moisturizer I’ve tried ever. Period. End of story.
Since the skin on your feet loses moisture faster than anywhere else on the body, High Dive combines 15 of the world’s best moisturizers-including 4 types of hyaluronic acid, shea butter, ceramides and podiatrist-recommended urea-to restore water content, retain hydration and promote cellular elasticity. A unique delivery system – including 10%+ glycolic acid for exfoliation – penetrates deep into the extra thick skin on your feet to providing moisture where you need it most for soft, silky smooth feet 🙂
