What I’m Doing Right Now…

Freaking OUT about the fact that my blog is being held hostage and, after spending a fortune on a redesign, I’m not sure when I can actually launch it.  SIGH.

– Drinking my favorite red wine and reading the new InStyle.

– Looking at my Instagram photos and feeling so lucky to have some amazing friends and people in my life!

– Trying to figure out how to get my cat, Gemma, to stop scratching my couch.  Any ideas?  And, yes, I’ve tried buying a scratching post…this is what they do with it.

– Contemplating cutting my hair to this length…but I probably won’t.

– Anxiously awaiting The Mindy Project…I’m kind of over New Girl.

My New Cats Make Their Blog Debut!

If you’re avid reader of my blog, you probably remember my super sad (yes, I cried while writing it) post about my late cat,Angel.  I rescued Angel from a shelter (ok, my Dad rescued her, technically) when I was 12 years old and brought her out to LA from New York when I moved out in 2009.  Sadly, Angel passed away in December 2011, at almost 17 years old, of liver cancer…and hence, I was devastated.  It’s funny how many people told me I should get  a new cat, as a replacement, when I really wanted to say back to them “if your sister died, would you tell your parents to adopt a new daughter?”  I know it sounds extreme, but the bond that I had with Angel was something very real and very deep.  I grew up with her.  Angel cuddled with me the first time that a boy dumped me, she sat on my lap and purred when I was grounded in my room and bored to death, she kept me company when I moved to a strange city where I knew a total of two people.  “Replacing” Angel was never an option for me; however, as my friend Ashley told me, I have a lot of love to give and any cat would be lucky to live with me.  It’s not “replacing” Angel, it’s simply moving on and helping another animal that needs a home.  After about one year, I was ready.

Enter Gemma Angel and Gea.  I only intended to get ONE cat (Gemma Angel) but, of course, the foster family saw that I have “SUCKER” clearly written all over my face when it comes to anything that meows.  Gea (the smaller kitten) is Gemma’s daughter and they were rescued from a kill shelter in Carson, California.  Ironically enough, they were being fostered at a mansion in the Hollywood Hills, right next to Chris Brown’s house, but they seem to have adjusted to the downgrade that IS my “executive studio” apartment.  I love my little girls and even though I know that Angel would LOATHE both of them, I know, deep down, that she’s secretly happy for me…and probably chowing down on some salmon, next to a warm fire place.

Make sure to follow me on Instagram for even more Gemma and Gea pics…you’ll get sick of me, for sure.

The Monday Rundown

Lemon, quinoa, avocado, cilantro chickpea salad: As of late, I’ve been really into quinoa so it was pretty clear that I would love this salad that also happens to consist of several other ingredients that I love: avocado, cilantro and chick peas.  Granted, I know a LOT of people hate cilantro so I’m sure you could take that out of the recipe and be just fine.

Jouer Pochette: I was in Portland for New Year’s Eve this year and my friends and I were all gawking and ahhing over Nadine’s little pink pochette from Jouer Cosmetics!  It’s the perfect size for going out since you can fit your cash, ID, credit cards AND iPhone inside.  Of course, I immediately got one in brown.

House of Harlow 1960 Talon crystal cuff: By now you all know about my obsession with all things House of Harlow 1960, so it should come as no surprise that I found yet another new piece that I love.  Talons.  And crystals…I mean.

Plum & Bow Metallic Cat Pillow: I find this metallic cat pillow to be both ironic and awesome, especially since, if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I recently adopted two new cats of my own.  The best part about this pillow is that it totally looks like a real cat when styled amongst other throw pillows on the bed.  If I didn’t already have two real cats of my own, I’d totally get this.
