We all know about my Gwen Stefani obsession so, naturally, when I watched No Doubt’s brand new video for their first single “Settle Down,” I was like PAUSE. WHAT lipgloss is she using? Gwennie is a spokesperson for L’Oreal so after doing some digging, I discovered that she’s using L’Oreal Infallable 8 HR Le Gloss in “Red Fatale.”
It’s been 11 LONG years since No Doubt’s last album and I’m super pumped for the release of “Push and Shove” on September 25th and, of course, for the tour. Duh.
Weird confession: when I was little, I always wished that I wore glasses. Yes, it’s true. (Un?)fortunately for me, I was blessed with better than 20/20 vision (thanks, Dad)! I remember telling my mom a complete lie in the 3rd grade; I told her that I couldn’t read my books (lies) and that I also couldn’t see the blackboard in class (more lies). So apparently I was near AND far sighted, according to my 3rd grade-self. I was quite the little liar but since my mother figured WHAT KID IN THE WORLD actually WANTED to wear glasses, she took me to the eye doctor. Even being the crafty nine year old that I was, I couldn’t fool the opthamologist and he promptly told my mother that I was one, lying and two, clearly needed more attention.
My mom confronted me and asked her little deviant daughter “Jamie Claire, why did you lie and tell mommy that you couldn’t read your books or see the blackboard at school? The doctor told me that you could read a sign a mile away!” My answer? “MOM, I didn’t mean to lie but I REALLY wanted glasses…they look SO CUTE and all of my friends wear them!” (Blogger’s note: this is just the beginning of my FOMO issues, just sayin’).
I mean. My mother’s face at this moment…unforgettable.
Even at 29 (and a half!), I still don’t need glasses but I make up for it with my vast sunglasses collection. While I might be able to read a street sign 3 blocks away (proven: NYC), my baby blue eyes are super sensitive to light and I honestly can’t be outside unless I’m wearing sunnies (and, of course, SPF on my skin, too!). I digress.
I went to the Two Point Oh LA blogger picnic on Sunday and was introduced to a fab new website called DITTO. What I love about this site is customers can try on the glasses (and sunglasses) to see if they fit/look good with 180 degree views before they buy them for the site. They can even ask for friend reccos (via social media!) and ask a DITTO stylist for their advice, based on their face shape- it’s pure genius, really. The site sells all of the best brands: Chloe (like my sunnies above), Ray Ban, Elizabeth and James, Jason Wu, Theory, Vera Wang, John Varvatos, etc. so you know you’re getting high quality goods…I mean, I always said that if/when I ever do need real glasses, I’d only go designer. Clearly.
I had the best time filming a Trend Talk segment for Clevver Style the other day. In my opinion, there’s really nothing more fun than sitting around with a bunch of cool girls talking fashion and beauty, right? Make sure you watch my Clevver debut so you can hear us dish on Britney Spears, Demi Lovato (hint: I hated her hair), Victoria and David Beckham and, of course, the man of the hour: Channing Tatum.
You can check out the Trend Talk video HEREand make sure to comment and subscribe to Clevver’s channels and follow them on Twitter.
If you haven’t been to Bagatelle yet, you are missing out…so naturally, when I was invited to La La Anthony’s birthday brunch I was excited one, because I love La La and two, because the brunch was being held at Bagatelle and they were serving X-Rated Fusion cocktails. Duh.
“La La’s Birthday Bellini” was a hit and my friends and I dined on delicious french toast and caprese salad before competing in a “cake off” where my team created the below masterpiece. Sydne Summer, the little artist that she is, drew La La’s face on the cake and the rest of decorated it with objects on the table. We were all crazy competitive and totally obsessed with our creation, for obvious reasons.

Last night I attended Refine Mixers‘ Summer Soiree at their insanely awesome house in Venice (right off the famous Abbot Kinney), hosted by the gorgeous Ashlan Gorse. I’m sure at this point you know about my obsession with Refine…I mean their mixers are ZERO calories and all natural, so what’s not to like?
Refine also teamed up withJoico Hair Care andGjelina in Venice, which, I am also now obsessed with and, side note, my friend just told me it takes 3 weeks to get a reservation there…naturally, this only makes me want to go there even more. Back to the event: guests were shuttled down from Los Angeles to Venice beach and enjoyed Refine cocktails and treats awaiting them as they entered the shuttle. Editors and tastemakers alike came together for a special intimate dinner where they learned how to pair special mixed drinks (five, to be exact) with healthy food. At dinner guests were educated on the history of Refine Mixers, by CEO Patrick Castles, and learned and how to muttle and shake several different cocktails with the Refine Mixer flavors. Joico had a fun braid bar downstairs, where women were able to get their hair braided OR get fun, beachy wavy by the amazing celebrity colorist, George Papanikolas.
My favorite cocktail of the night: The Venice Peach Bellini (which always makes me think of studying abroard in Venice, ITALY)
I saw this absolutely ridiculous photo of Blake Lively from last night’s LA premiere of Savages and nearly passed out. Utter perfection. Blake is wearing a stunning Zuhair Murad dress that she, not having a stylist, probably selected on her own. The dress is from the Couture “Casino Fever” Spring Summer 2012 collection, which I love, but even more…can you believe her hair and makeup? She is just stunning. I did a little search to see if I could find the “get the look” from her makeup artist and/or hairstylist but no dice. Here’s my take on how you can get the look:
Hair: For this style, you need volume. I recently attended a Dove and Dailycandy.com event at DryBar and the stylist used Dove’s Style+Care Nourishing Amplifier Mousse and I was totally impressed. Once hair is blown out and dry, use a 1-inch curling iron around your hair and brush out the curls for this old Hollywood glam look.
Skin: Blake definitely has a bronze goddess glow happening. Apply your regular foundation and then use a summery bronzer to highlight the apples of your cheeks, nose and forehead. I like Stila One Step Makeup Primecolor in “Bronze Babe” since it allows you to play with the countouring a bit and also serves as a primer, cheek color and eyeshadow.
Eyes: Keep eyes minimal, as it’s really all about the lip (see below). Try a simple black eyeliner like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Perversion,” a personal favorite, and, of course, some false eyelashes. I’m loving Makeup Forever’s eyelash strips since they’re easy to get on. Then top it off with a dramatic black mascara like Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes, which I’m also currently loving.
Lips: As my friend Nadine Jolie said, any time a celeb is wearing a draw-dropping red lipstick, it’s probably MAC “Russian Red.“ Enough said.
Nails: Blake is sporting a pretty serious red and Essie’s “Well Red” would definitely foot that bill.
A few weeks ago I got a really fun package in the mail. I opened it up and it played music and told me that I was going to have the best night ever. That’s a bold statement for me these days. Bold statement aside, I’m always up for a good hair challenge! As all of my loyal readers know, I’m very into hair and scalp health which is what, naturally, peaked my interest in the brand spanking new hair care line, CLEAR SCALP & HAIR BEAUTY THERAPY.
After trying out the product, which I loved, I found out that superfreak (this is what I call women who look 20 years younger than they actually are) Heidi Klum is their first spokesperson! I LOVE, love, love Heidi Klum. Not only is she amazingly gorgeous but she’s also an amazing business woman. Heidi agrees with me as she mentions that she appreciates the fact that this product “feeds” the scalp, not just the ends, and gives women stronger, more beautiful hair in just seven days. Seven days is a BOLD claim, guys…and believe me, I’m still putting it to the honest test. If you think about it, it makes total sense – the same way that the best way to get the perfect makeup look is by having GOOD SKIN. The base of anything is what’s most important and, according to the brand studies, 99% of hair’s natural strength and beauty comes from the scalp, the foundation for strong, beautiful hair. LOVE THAT.
