The Monday Rundown

ASOS Spike Drop Earrings: I need these.  Period.  Also, they are TEN DOLLARS.  You read that correctly, TEN dollars.

Margarita Ice Pops: With the way the weather has been this past week, there’s nothing more refreshing than a margarita…so make that in ice pop form and it’s win-win.

Hourglass Cosmetics Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in “Raven”: Besides the gorgeous packaging (you know I’m a sucker), I love, LOVE this liquid lipstick.  The color is a fabulous orangey-red (but not too orange, you know).

Diptyque Le Langage de Fleurs Coffret: I’m 100% obsessed with Diptyque candles (Roses and Baies are my favorites) but the combo of Baies, Tubereuse and Jasmin is just heavenly.  Now you know what to buy me for the holidays, just saying.

Holiday Gift Guide: The Perfect Hostess Gifts

Holiday parties can always bring a lot of pressure…what to wear, what to eat (or not eat) and what to bring as a sentimental thank you to the host of the evening.  Guys, I’ve been to a LOT of parties, and these three options are absolutely the BEST gifts any hostess could receive.

Vosges Dark Chocoate Truffle Collection : I discovered Vosges chocolate while working at a PR agency in NYC that always gifted editors with the special amazingness that IS their chocolate.  I adore this gift set because, let’s face it, 9 pieces is just the right amount.  It won’t make you gain 5lbs. but it’s still enough to curb your craving.  Plus, all of their chocolates are exotic and not your basic milk variety.

LATHER 12 Soaps-a-Sudsing: Celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with 12 different (amazing) soap fragrances.  Like I’ve said before, I’m not a huge fan of bar soap but these are one of the few exceptions to my rule.  I’m loving the versatility and especially into the “wild mint” soap.

Diptyque Boxed Set of Mini Candles: I bought this mini set for myself back in New York (pre-recession) when I decided that I basically needed to love Diptyque candles.  Truth be told, I was right…and this mini collection is the absolute perfect way to introduce a newbie to the line since these are pretty much the best scents, according to me anyway.  It may appear pricey but these candles LAST, people.  Totally worth it.

Inspired By: “sober January”

So last month I decided to do a little cleanse/experiment where I didn’t drink any alcohol for the entire month of January…31 days to be exact.  I like to call this crazy project “sober January” and I’m happy to report, it was a total success.

Admittedly, it ain’t easy to refrain from a glass of wine here or a vodka soda (aka “a Linds” as Amber from BeautyBloggingJunkie.com taught me) there but I managed to do it…and it felt great.  Here are the items that got me through my Gwenyth-like project.

Seltzer: Whether you call it “soda water,” “club soda” or seltzer, it is and, will always be, my favorite non-alcoholic beverage.  And when you add a little lemon, it makes you feel like you’re (almost) drinking a vodka soda (a Linds).

Urban Decay Clean & Sober: One, I love the name and two, I love the mermaid on the packaging.  This gel-based makeup remover is oil-free and contains mild cleansers coupled with soothing botanicals like jasmine, sacred lotus and a touch of lavender for a calming scent.

Amy Weinhouse “Rehab”: The hit song from 2007 (?) always put me in a soulful, jazz-type mood.  I actually really like the whole “Back to Black” album for when I feel like I should be a hipster living in Williamsburg…or the LA equivalent, Silverlake.

Diptyque Mimosa candle: Now I know this candle doesn’t smell like an actual mimosa drink but I like the irony, nonetheless.

The anti-Valentine’s Day gift guide

So yeah…I don’t have a Valentine this year.  I actually think I may have jinxed myself back in the 11th grade when I decided to wear all black on Valentine’s Day, in protest, naturally.  But I digress.  You won’t find some “win your way into his heart” type of Valentine’s Day round up on THIS blog.  In fact, last year I did a “V-day, not VD” mini gift guide that featured sexually named hair gel and a quote from Lady GaGa about carbs and good sex.  Anyway, here’s my 2010 version- a rundown of super cool Valentine’s Day must-haves that you can use with someone or alone.

Bristols6 makes the sexiest Nippies, which, let’s be honest are cute for under clothing or just while wearing nothing else at all.

Booty Parlor Don’t Stop Massage Candle is pure genius, in my book.  It sounds too good to be true but this candle is actually also massage oil.  Yup, that’s right, ladies.  Does your BF have a hot wax fetish?  I hope not…but if he does, this is a good compromise.  The wax is made from a rich blend of shea butter, vitamins A &E, jojoba, olive and coconut oils and clean-burning natural soy wax.

Too Faced Mood Swing Lipgloss is emotionally-activated and high on shine.  Personally, I’m interested to see if a guy would even notice if I HAD lipgloss on but it would be pretty hilarious if, after burping at dinner, your lips suddenly turned hot pink.  Just saying.

Diptyque, one of my most favorite brands, came out with this fabulous candle – Rooibos vanilla, to be exact.  And, a portion of sales from this candle helps to provide medicine to people living with HIV.

I mean, this is probably NOT the most appropriate Valentine’s Day item if you actually do have a Valentine…but if you don’t, this is the only thing you really need (well, except maybe what you’re about to see…keep reading).  LUSH The Ex Factor bath bomb was inspired by a plan to rid the world of the memories of useless men, something every girl can use!

These look so innocent, don’t they?  Body Spa Vibrating Bath Sponges will add a little extra oomph while you’re taking your nice, relaxing bubble bath on the big day.

Taking my very first bubble bath in years

So I was talking to my friend Kelley on the phone the other night and she told me that she was tired and just wanted to take a bubble bath.  A bubble bath?  What a novel concept.  I can’t even remember the last time I took a bubble bath but something tells me that it was in High School, which was the last time that I would consider my tub clean enough to rest my bare bum on it.  In college, bubble baths are out of the question and up until now, I’ve always had roommates where I’d feel a little bad hogging the bathroom for that long (I mean when you’ve gotta pee, you’ve gotta pee, right?).

I started thinking about what I have in my apartment to create a peaceful scene and I think I did quite well.  I used Philosophy’s Chocolate Chip Cookies Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath as super luxurious bubble maker that also curbs my cookie cravings.  I then lit my Diptyque Roses candle, which is one of my favorite scents, and the combo of chocolate and roses is pretty much nirvana in my book.  After relaxing for a bit in the tub, I then put on my comfy Soft Hugwear Spa Wrap so that I could dry off a bit with out putting my clothes back on.  Ah, a great day.  I think I’ll be doing this again soon.

Red Alert: Diptyque sample sale

So I’m more than mildly obsessed with Diptyque…I even just bought one of the summer three candle sets just “because.” “Because” is really not an acceptable reason for me to spend $80 on three tiny candles (I had a $25 gift card to Saks) and now I feel incredibly guilty…but. they. just. smell. so good.
