Perfection = Blake Lively At the “Savages” Premiere

I saw this absolutely ridiculous photo of Blake Lively from last night’s LA premiere of Savages and nearly passed out.  Utter perfection.  Blake is wearing a stunning Zuhair Murad dress that she, not having a stylist, probably selected on her own.  The dress is from the Couture “Casino Fever” Spring Summer 2012 collection, which I love, but even more…can you believe her hair and makeup?  She is just stunning.  I did a little search to see if I could find the “get the look” from her makeup artist and/or hairstylist but no dice.  Here’s my take on how you can get the look:

Hair: For this style, you need volume.  I recently attended a Dove and Dailycandy.com event at DryBar and the stylist used Dove’s Style+Care Nourishing Amplifier Mousse and I was totally impressed.  Once hair is blown out and dry, use a 1-inch curling iron around your hair and brush out the curls for this old Hollywood glam look.

Skin: Blake definitely has a bronze goddess glow happening.  Apply your regular foundation and then use a summery bronzer to highlight the apples of your cheeks, nose and forehead.  I like Stila One Step Makeup Primecolor in “Bronze Babe” since it allows you to play with the countouring a bit and also serves as a primer, cheek color and eyeshadow.

Eyes: Keep eyes minimal, as it’s really all about the lip (see below).  Try a simple black eyeliner like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Perversion,” a personal favorite, and, of course, some false eyelashes.  I’m loving Makeup Forever’s eyelash strips since they’re easy to get on.  Then top it off with a dramatic black mascara like Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes, which I’m also currently loving.

Lips: As my friend Nadine Jolie said, any time a celeb is wearing a draw-dropping red lipstick, it’s probably MAC “Russian Red.  Enough said.

Nails: Blake is sporting a pretty serious red and Essie’s “Well Red” would definitely foot that bill.

New Year’s Eve Premiere with Dove

I went to the premiere of New Year’s Eve on Monday with my friend Devon (hanks to Dove)!  I’m always a little skeptical about movies that have like 45 celebrities because it usually because it usually becomes a “hey, what celeb is next!?” which always trumps the actual story line.  Regardless, there is a slew of amazing actors and actresses in the cast, including Ms. Lea Michele, who looked absolutely stunning.  I got the “how to” from her stylist Mark Townsend:

“It was all about modern glamour for Lea’s look at the premiere. Her Valentino dress reminded me of Old Hollywood, so we wanted to play off that with a young, modern version. I started by adding a large dollop of Dove Body & Lift Mousse to her damp hair and blow dried with a large round brush, giving Lea a deep side part. Next, I took 3-inch sections of hair and sprayed Dove Flexible Hold Hairspray on each section, and then wrapped the hair around a 2 inch curling iron, leaving the ends just a little straighter. For loads of shine and beautiful texture, I took a quarter size amount of Dove Nourishing Oil Care Nourishing Smooth-In Cream in my hands, rubbed them together and then raked my fingers through her hair for piecey-ness. I kept her fringe off her face by spraying Dove Extra Hold Hairspray on a small flat brush and brushing back and to the side.”

The after party was also a good time.  We sat at a table with “Dr. Sweets” from Bones, who I adore, and then took a bunch of faux New Year’s Eve photos in the custom photobooth.

Dove Haircare Sponsors the LA Film Festival

Thanks to Dove Hair, I got the chance to attend the highly coveted LA Film Festival last Saturday and attend the screening for “Terri” starring John C. Reilly.  There were a few LA bloggers in attendance and we got to hang out in the Jameson Filmmaker Lounge before the movie started as well as take some pics in the Dove Hair Photography Studio, featuring their Dove Nourishing Oil Care collection, which I adore.  What’s great about the Nourishing Oil Care collection is that this collection smoothes hair and eliminates frizz without making hair greasy, which is what almost always happens with any product with oil gets involved.  The movie?  Well, it was good but definitely not a RomCom or any kind of “fun” Saturday night movie!  Luckily, Nadine, Roxy and I (plus our plus one’s) ended the night with a Katsuya dinner and cocktails. 🙂

Heat Style Product Roundup

So after years of blow drying and straightening my hair almost every day, I’ve come to really appreciate the value of a good thermal protection product. Here are my current favorites and remember, I judge harshly.

Redken iron silk 07 – iron silk truly lives up to its name. It doesn’t leave hair sticky or stiff and strengthens and protects the hair follicle resulting in zero frizz.
Sebastian Professional Trilliant – This shimmery spray is designed to gently condition hair and adds ultra-light body fora glam finish.
Dove Heat Defense Therapy – besides being super cheap ($4.75 on drugstore.com!), this product smells amazing and leaves hair feeling conditioned and shiny.
