Inspired By: The Year of the Snake

If there’s one thing I know about, it’s a snake.  And guys, 2013…it’s the YEAR of the snake or, the black snake, to be exact.  I’ve always been curius about astrology and, in all honesty, I think it definitely does have some merrit…but, you know, you can’t take it too seriously (like anything in life, really) and I’m constantly annoyed by all of the hippie dippies out here in LA when they say “what’s your sign?” after I say “hi, I’m Jamie.”  I digress.

1. Zara Snake Print Neckerchief: I like a good neckerchief…who doesn’t?  A good scarf can dress up any plain outfit and animal print is always on-trend.

2. Jennifer Fisher Brass Large Snake Cuff: I’m weirdly into snake jewelry, ask my friends, and this Jennifer Fisher cuff is pretty bad ass, I have to say.

3. Rachel Zoe “Laura” Snake Ballet Flats: It’s totally cliche but anything that’s Rachel Zoe-approved is A-OK by me.  I love a good ballet flat.  I love me some animal print.  So…done deal.

4. Essie Magnetic Nail Polish in “Snake, Rattle & Roll”: Aside from having the coolest nail polish name EVER, this polish is actually pretty awesome.  It lasts longer than most and gives nails a really unique texture.

5. Jacqui Aiche Extra Long Snake Ring: If you read this blog, you know I love a statement ring, which is why you shouldn’t be surprised at all that I love this extra long, gold, snake ring.  DUH.

Perfect Pairs: Statement Rings and Nail Polish

Essie “Good As Gold” and Elizabeth and James Bird Claw Ring: This color has been my STAPLE nail color for the last few months, I’m obsessed.  I love the way it’s really more of a subtle gold and looks great with any other metallics, including this amazing sterling silver claw ring, designed by MK and Ash themselves.

Julep “Robin” and Kelly Wearstler Gold Horn Ring: We all know that I love a good double finger ring!  Mixing gold and robin’s egg blue (e.g. Tiffany blue) is a really pretty and girly combo that I adore.  I feel instantly more glam when I do this combo.

OPI “Plugged-In Plum” and Forever21 Turquoise Cutout Ring: This ring looks pricey, but it’s totally a Forever21 find!  I like mixing the turquoise shade witha  deep purple, which most people wouldn’t normally think to do, but I adore.

NARS “Dovima” and Forever21 Rhinestone Cheetah Ring: There’s nothing more classic than mixing a leopard print with red, right?  It’s pretty much my favorite combo and this ring quenches my thirst for the insanely expensive Cartier version, that I can’t afford.  Sigh.

The Monday Rundown

Lemon, quinoa, avocado, cilantro chickpea salad: As of late, I’ve been really into quinoa so it was pretty clear that I would love this salad that also happens to consist of several other ingredients that I love: avocado, cilantro and chick peas.  Granted, I know a LOT of people hate cilantro so I’m sure you could take that out of the recipe and be just fine.

Jouer Pochette: I was in Portland for New Year’s Eve this year and my friends and I were all gawking and ahhing over Nadine’s little pink pochette from Jouer Cosmetics!  It’s the perfect size for going out since you can fit your cash, ID, credit cards AND iPhone inside.  Of course, I immediately got one in brown.

House of Harlow 1960 Talon crystal cuff: By now you all know about my obsession with all things House of Harlow 1960, so it should come as no surprise that I found yet another new piece that I love.  Talons.  And crystals…I mean.

Plum & Bow Metallic Cat Pillow: I find this metallic cat pillow to be both ironic and awesome, especially since, if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I recently adopted two new cats of my own.  The best part about this pillow is that it totally looks like a real cat when styled amongst other throw pillows on the bed.  If I didn’t already have two real cats of my own, I’d totally get this.

Top Pantone Color for Spring 2013: Monaco Blue

I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with Pantone and its chic-ness, but I am.  And when Pantone announced their list of top colors for Spring 2013, I got super excited because let’s face it…I look really good in this color blue.  Modesty aside, here are some of my favorite items in one of this Spring’s hottest color:

J.Crew Lustre Lace Mockneck Tee: I wear my black lace top from Zara pretty much too often so, naturally, I am way into this blue version.

Marc Jacobs Linear Logo iPhone Case: I know, I know…everyone’s getting the iPhone 5 BUT, if you’re like me, you can still use this cute MJ case.

Sam Edelman Danielle Suede Pump: Pointy toe pumps have been making a big comeback, thank god, and I love the metallic heel on this blue version.

Vanessa Mooney The Mesa Bracelet: Monaco Blue looks GREAT with gold and this bracelet is pretty awesome.

Essie “Aruba Blue”: Blue nails had a moment a few years back and now if someone gives you shit for wearing blue nail polish, you can refer them to the Pantone website.

The Monday Rundown

Z Gallerie Aquamarine Zig Zag (aka chevron) Frame: Chevron is so happening right now and I love the way this aquamarine (my birthstone, by the way), is subtle but still super girly.

Essie nail polish in “Skirting The Issue”: Oxblood is on trend for fall and, of course, Essie launched this dark red in its fall collection.  It’s the perfect red for fall!

House of Harlow 1960 Engraved Snake Double Finger Wrap Ring: I got this amazing ring as a gift (c/o L’OREAL) but it’s no secret that I love all things House of Harlow 1960 AND double finger rings. I can already tell you that it’s gonna be a fall staple.

Spiked Oreo Milkshake: I recently went to Go Burger for the first time with my friend John and he convinved me (ok, it didn’t take much convincing) to try their AMAZING spiked Oreo milkshake.  What can I say besides OMG?  It’s just brilliant.  I adapted the regular Oreo milkshake recipe with THIS recipe, which includes the booze.

Pre-Emmys Prep with L’OREAL Paris

There’s one thing that I’ll never turn down, and that’s a free blow out.  L’OREAL is one of those amazing beauty brands that’s basically involved with anything major and cool so when they invited me to their pre-Emmys beauty suite at The Four Season Beverly Hills and then to the Entertainment Weekly party, I was stoked.  I had my hair done in my go-to “loose waves, high volume” style, a fresh pedi and, of course, had my makeup done.

This is the makeup village it takes to get me ready, apparently.  And a big thanks to April, L’OREAL’s amazing makeup artist (and my neighbor!)

Obsessed with their new Nail Lingerie and this amazing shade of red (for my toes) called “Red Tote”

My favorite new House of Harlow 1960 double finger (you know I love those) snake ring, c/o L’OREAL. Manicure by ESSIE and you can see more images from ESSIE’s pre-Emmy suite (and me making crazy faces) HERE.

Perfection = Blake Lively At the “Savages” Premiere

I saw this absolutely ridiculous photo of Blake Lively from last night’s LA premiere of Savages and nearly passed out.  Utter perfection.  Blake is wearing a stunning Zuhair Murad dress that she, not having a stylist, probably selected on her own.  The dress is from the Couture “Casino Fever” Spring Summer 2012 collection, which I love, but even more…can you believe her hair and makeup?  She is just stunning.  I did a little search to see if I could find the “get the look” from her makeup artist and/or hairstylist but no dice.  Here’s my take on how you can get the look:

Hair: For this style, you need volume.  I recently attended a Dove and Dailycandy.com event at DryBar and the stylist used Dove’s Style+Care Nourishing Amplifier Mousse and I was totally impressed.  Once hair is blown out and dry, use a 1-inch curling iron around your hair and brush out the curls for this old Hollywood glam look.

Skin: Blake definitely has a bronze goddess glow happening.  Apply your regular foundation and then use a summery bronzer to highlight the apples of your cheeks, nose and forehead.  I like Stila One Step Makeup Primecolor in “Bronze Babe” since it allows you to play with the countouring a bit and also serves as a primer, cheek color and eyeshadow.

Eyes: Keep eyes minimal, as it’s really all about the lip (see below).  Try a simple black eyeliner like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Perversion,” a personal favorite, and, of course, some false eyelashes.  I’m loving Makeup Forever’s eyelash strips since they’re easy to get on.  Then top it off with a dramatic black mascara like Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes, which I’m also currently loving.

Lips: As my friend Nadine Jolie said, any time a celeb is wearing a draw-dropping red lipstick, it’s probably MAC “Russian Red.  Enough said.

Nails: Blake is sporting a pretty serious red and Essie’s “Well Red” would definitely foot that bill.
