Invite: Marie Claire and Guess are celebrating Valentine’s Day!

Here’s the deal.  Marie Claire is one of my favorite magazines so when they have an event in LA (and NYC!), I GO.  On February 5 (NYC) and February 7 (LA), guests are invited to Guess stores to shop Marie Claire’s Valentine’s Day must-haves, enjoy DJ beats, sweet treats and NYX Cosmetics mini-makeovers.

If you’d like to attend, you can RSVP to GuessNYC@Hearst.com (for NY) and GuessLA@Hearst.com (for LA).  Do it.

Sh*t Girls Say Book Launch Event

Pretty much the minute after I watched the Sh*t Girls Say YouTube video, I was left saying “oh my god, I say 90% of the things in this video,” just like every other twenty-something woman in America.  The book launch party at Palihouse?  Also amazing.  Canadian writers Kyle Humphrey and Graydon Sheppard, wrote the wildly creative coffee table book.  Selected from the authors’ favorite tweets, each punchy one-liner interacts with the visually stunning scene-scape, to create a book that is funny, bright, colorful and infinitely re-readable.  If you don’t believe me, check out the photos below from the event.

Refine Mixers Pre-Grammy Event at BLO Bar (hosted by me!)

It isn’t every day that I’m asked to host an event that’s honestly such a perfect fit for me.  When I was approached by Refine Mixers, I was flattered and excited because really, what do I love more than a low-calorie cocktail and getting my hair done.  Refine is now partners with BLO blow dry bar as their official cocktail mixer and guys, this stuff is awesome.  The cocktail mixer is all-natural, sugar-free and has ZERO calories – basically, you can make yourself a margarita for less than 100 calories…and that’s just from the tequila.

Aside from Refine’s two drink choices of the night, Red Carpet Margarita (see below for the recipe!) and Champagne Cos-Blo, attendees had the chance to get their hair blown out in true red carpet fashion.

Brilliant Idea: RentTheRunway.com

Lately I’ve been saying the classic quote “why didn’t I think of that?” to myself a lot.  I think the old quarter life crisis has been rearing it’s ugly head since a few of my friends and family have been working on/contemplating grad school, coming up with amazing business ideas and generally just doing really innovative things with their life…which, of course, makes me feel like I need to come up with an equally, if not better, idea.

Enter RentTheRunway.com.  I was invited to an event at one of my favorites, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, so naturally, I was excited to attend.  What makes this such a “I went to Harvard Business school idea” (and yes, I’m coining this term) is that dude, dresses are expensive.  In a town like LA or NYC, you’re probably going to two or three events per week and how many times can you really wear that LBD?  This is a problem that I always have.  Texts go back and forth with friends that say “what are you wearing?  I hate everything that I own and everything that I don’t hate, I’ve worn in the last two weeks.”  The absolute WORST.  With Rent The Runway, you can literally rent dresses, accessories, and jewlery for any special event that you have…and I’m talking like NICE dresses too.  Sure, you might be giving up $100 bucks but you’re getting a designer dress so it’s especially awesome if you know there will be tons of photos happening.  I mean, celebs borrow their clothes so why shouldn’t you?

Blowfish Malibu Spring/Summer Collection

In additon to never turning a party down at Soho House, I will also never reject any kind of pedicure.  I was invited to a fun night of pedis and sandals courtesy of Blowfish Malibu and so basically, I couldn’t ask for a better night.  I sat back, enjoyed some champagne and got a pedi with a gorgeous coral Essie color and chatted with my girl, Allison McNamara from FabSugar!

Of course, the perfect ending to any pedicure is…a new pair of shoes.  I left with the Makai sandals in grey, which I actually wore out of the nail salon and on to the Radio Shack party (where LMFAO performed) and they were chic yet still really comfortable.

RentalComp – pure genius.

So since moving to LA last September (yes, it really has been 9 months!) I’ve been going to tons of amazing events and parties but it was only recently that I was introduced to this crazy awesome event company called RentalComp.  I know this is a far cry from what I usually feature on my blog, but after chatting with the owner, I had to give them a shout out.  As someone with a PR background, I think I really appreciate companies like this more than the average person, similar to how I still scan magazines for client placements.  It’s a sickness.

The great thing about going out in LA is that weather is awesome 99% of the time.  And even if it’s slightly chilly, you still don’t need a jacket because you can almost guarantee that they’ll at least be a few heat lamps stationed through out the venue.  Genius, I tell you.  How come you don’t see more heat lamps in New York?!  But I digress.  The real news here is that RentalComp just launched a great new search and compare website for event planners and rental vendors, providing the largest amount and most comprehensive rental products database out there.  If you’re in event planning, you NEED to use this new site.
