Smart Fashion

Smart fashion

Here’s the thing. I’ve been picky about my clothing for a LONG TIME.  Ask my mom, she’ll tell you how I would wake up, as a 4-year-old kid and politely tell my mom that no, in fact I was not going to wear the outfit that she picked out for me.  True story.  So yeah, when I find things that are truly, honestly innovative and amazing, I get pretttty excited about it.  Case and point, these three items:

InStyle Essentials Classic Button-Front Shirt: Essentially, this is a button down shirt that uses your bra size to ensure a perfect fit.  So basically, I would normally buy a medium and then be annoyed when the button in the middle of my boobs opens up CONSTANTLY.  Again, true story.  In this case, I ordered a 36C, which allowed for the PERFECT fit; It didn’t open up in the bust AND it wasn’t gigantic around my waist.  How did no one think of this before?

LOFT “Marisa” Ankle Pant: When I say that I HATE shopping for pants, that’s pretty much an understatement.  When I found out about LOFT’s Pant Revolution I got honestly, truly excited…and let me tell you why.  They surveyed 10,000 women, with 400 pairs of pants from LOFT competitors.  Survey says: 47% of women find shopping for pants frustrating (DUH), which is why they devised 45 options, pants options, that is, in different fits, lengths, fabrics, styles, prints and colors.  Now, I’m a “Marisa” and I, in fact, looked terrible in the Julie, which convinced me that their system really does work.  Use THIS quiz to figure out what style is right for you and get yo’ self some new pants now.

Bandolier Phone Holder: This genius iPhone holder would’ve saved my life in my former PR years.  I love that it not only holds your phone where you still have access to the screen, but it also has little slots for business cards/ids/credit cards.  It’s basically everything you need, in one cute patterned holder.

A rare outfit post: Capwell+Co. event

If you read my blog on the regular, you know that I almost NEVER do an outfit post and, and if I do post what I’m wearing, it’s usually someone else’s Instagram photo that I stole.  Not kidding.  I really just don’t like posing for photos, the same way that I think selfies are the most awful thing invented during the modern century.  When I see a selfie on Instagram, I actually feel awkward…for the PERSON TAKING IT.

Regardless, I’m trying to expand my “horizons” and try new things, which is why I decided to post an “outfit photo” from the Capwell + Co. event at Bar Marmont last week.  The fabulous jewelry brand revealed new pieces, all awesome, and treated us to some mingling and cocktails, all at one of my favorite bars.  Do I plan many outfit posts in the near future?  Probably not, but you never know…I AM pretty obsessed with Capwell’s collection.  What do you guys think?

P.S. I made a few attempts at photoshopping my veiny feet but, alas, it just looked weird. I embrace my veiny feet, so deal with it.

2013 Emmy’s: a recap

Glade emmys party

My girl Kelly Go Lightly hosted a fabulous Emmy’s viewing party, sponsored by Glade, at the chic Sunset Tower Hotel.  I mean.  Kelly’s hosted many a viewing party before but this one definitely takes the cake.  We hung poolside, drank cocktails, ate good food and, of course, watched the show.  Here are my fashion favorites from the night:

Welcome to the start of, what I’m officially deeming, CLUELESS WEEK.  Yes, that’s right, an entire week of Clueless-themed blog posts! You are welcome.  I’m kicking things off with a modern take on Cher’s classic Alaia dress.  I know what you’re thinking: “an a-what-a?”  CLASSIC.

5 Things I Love Right Now

5 things i love right now-2

1. Michael Popp #Poppaganada shirt: You may have read my post back in December where I mentioned a long-time friend was diagnosed with cancer.  Well, I’m happy to report that while he’s not completely out of the woods, he IS doing well.  He’s selling these rad shirts to help with the cost of his recent battle with leukemia and his even more recent bone marrow transplant.

2. La Fresh Nail Polish Remover Acetone-Free Pads: Every time I’m traveling, I always seem to notice that my nails look absolutely awful; it’s like kind of comedic at this point.  With that said, I got SUPER excited when I discovered these little travel pack nail polish remover pads!  I mean, I’m just going to leave them in my “to-go bag.”  Done.

3. Clinique A Different Nail Enamel For Sensitive Skin in “Yellow Genius”: I blogged about the Clinique nail polish line before but I’m really into this limited-edition shade, inspired by Clinique’s original “yellow genius,” its famous moisturizer.

4. Stella and Bow “As If” bracelet: I don’t need to explain my Clueless obsession, or why I love this bracelet.  End of story.

5. NUANCE Salma Hayek Lasting Wear Gel Eyeliner: I have a rough time finding an eyeliner that doesn’t run down my face, true story.  However, I recently tried this gel version from NUANCE Salma Hayek and I LOVE it.  It’s awesome.

Sponsored Post: Back-To-School With American Eagle

american eagle

Growing up, back-to-school season was always my favorite.  There’s something incredibly exciting and rejuvenating about the fact that you get to have a fresh start at school; It’s a NEW year, which means a new YOU, at least when it comes to fashion.  Granted, I’ve been out of school for a while, which I’m still sad about, but I tried to channel my high school-self for a little inspiration.  I always tried to look modern, fun and put together, but not like I was trying too hard.  Here are my picks, all from American Eagle (hi, affordable and easy!), where I went crazy over all the denim and back-to-school basics.

American Eagle Baseball T-Shirt: I love this modern take on a baseball t-shirt.  The fabric is slightly see-through (but still appropriate) and the cap sleeves are a really pretty navy for a little pop of color.

American Eagle Skinny Crop Jean: I was immediately drawn to these jeans since they’re the perfect shade of denim for me.  I like a darker blue, but not too dark, and I love the strategically placed rips that are also still totally school-appropriate.

American Eagle AEO Studded Bangle Set: I’m wearing two sets of these bangles that combine gold and silver and give the outfit just a little hint of shine.

Sole Society Martine Flat: I wanted to add a little texture to this outfit and I love the way the snake print compliments the jeans and adds a little bit of sophistication to the baseball tee.

3 Things I Love Right Now

3 things i love right now

Calvin Rucker Boyfriend Jean Shorts: I’m so not a shorts person but I really just love these boyfriend shorts.  They’re the perfect distressed color with an equally perfect amount of perfectly placed rips.

JUNIPER box: There are TONS of monthly boxes out these days but this one is TRULY brilliant.  It’s a monthly mailer for your period.  Yes, it’s true.  You can choose WHEN it arrives (based on your own period’s timing), what brands of tampons you want, etc.  You basically get everything you need, for $28, and I have to tell you guys, it was pretty nice getting a box full of snacks and teas when I was in the worst mood ever.

Sole Society Elisa heel: I’ve been on a quest for a classic black pump for awhile now and I finally found an AMAZING pair: the Elisa heel.  It’s a good heel height (some height but not too much heel) and they’re actually comfortable, not kidding.
