Perfection = Blake Lively At the “Savages” Premiere

I saw this absolutely ridiculous photo of Blake Lively from last night’s LA premiere of Savages and nearly passed out.  Utter perfection.  Blake is wearing a stunning Zuhair Murad dress that she, not having a stylist, probably selected on her own.  The dress is from the Couture “Casino Fever” Spring Summer 2012 collection, which I love, but even more…can you believe her hair and makeup?  She is just stunning.  I did a little search to see if I could find the “get the look” from her makeup artist and/or hairstylist but no dice.  Here’s my take on how you can get the look:

Hair: For this style, you need volume.  I recently attended a Dove and Dailycandy.com event at DryBar and the stylist used Dove’s Style+Care Nourishing Amplifier Mousse and I was totally impressed.  Once hair is blown out and dry, use a 1-inch curling iron around your hair and brush out the curls for this old Hollywood glam look.

Skin: Blake definitely has a bronze goddess glow happening.  Apply your regular foundation and then use a summery bronzer to highlight the apples of your cheeks, nose and forehead.  I like Stila One Step Makeup Primecolor in “Bronze Babe” since it allows you to play with the countouring a bit and also serves as a primer, cheek color and eyeshadow.

Eyes: Keep eyes minimal, as it’s really all about the lip (see below).  Try a simple black eyeliner like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Perversion,” a personal favorite, and, of course, some false eyelashes.  I’m loving Makeup Forever’s eyelash strips since they’re easy to get on.  Then top it off with a dramatic black mascara like Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes, which I’m also currently loving.

Lips: As my friend Nadine Jolie said, any time a celeb is wearing a draw-dropping red lipstick, it’s probably MAC “Russian Red.  Enough said.

Nails: Blake is sporting a pretty serious red and Essie’s “Well Red” would definitely foot that bill.

How a Stone wears white

The idea for this post started off as a joke but really, it’s kind of not.  Stone is an English last name; one of the first last names ever, to be exact, and given my ancestry….well, you can see why traditionally every Stone you know is probably pasty white and freckled.  It’s for this reason that I’ve always been terrified of wearing the color white…that and my pention for spilling on myself, naturally.  Putting all of that aside, my friend Sydne and I were shopping and we came across this amazing white peplum dress at H&M and I, of course, naturally scoffed at it.

Sydne: This dress would soooo good on you. Try it on!

Me: Um…it’s white.  I’m pale and spill everything on myself.

Sydne can be very convincing.  I grabbed my size (the last one, by the way) and decided to appease her by trying it on and then showing her how ridiculous it looked on me.

To my surprise, it looked A-mazing and I ended up buying it.  Duh.  As happy as I am that I managed to wear this dress all night with out spilling anything on me, I’m even happier to discover that a STONE CAN WEAR WHITE (proof is below!)

*To note, I was seriously self-tanned in my above photo, but STILL.

Summer Obsessions

Frederick’s of Hollywood Bridget Stretch Cotton Thong: I am totally obsessed with these new stretch lace thongs from FOH…they’re like, seriously the most comfortable thongs ever and come in fun, summerish colors.

Maya Brenner Bi-Coastal necklace: A melding of my two favorite US states (New York and California), this necklace makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Fake Bake spray tans: Today, for the first time in about five years, I got a for real, butt naked in front of a stranger, spray tan…and guys, I’m back to being obsessed.  I used to go to Mystic Tan every week during my sophomore year of college but eventually just stopped going because it became annoying.  Sure, I love my DIY self tanner but nothing beats the results that you get after getting a customized spray…again, while you’re butt naked in front of a total stranger.  Not for the shy, obviously.

Kate Spade Changing Spots Hinged Bangle: We all know I love my leopard print but the white/gold colors make this bangle a little more subtle, plus I like the “changing spots” mantra engraved on the inside.

LATHER Sea Kelp & Ginseng All-Over Mask: I’m all about the MOISTURE this summer.  Moisture everywhere.  This is basically an amazing all-in-one mask that can be used on your body, face and even your hair to draw out toxins while restoring, yes, lost moisture.  The mask contains sea algae oil, which is great for antiaging as well as aloe vera and St. John’s Wort, which act as anti-inflammatory ingredients to ease red, irritated skin. The perfect summer product, if you ask me.

Destination: Palm Springs

A friend and I are heading out to the desert tomorrow morning at, gasp, 9AM.  There are very few things that could actually get me to wake up before 11 on a Saturday but hey, Memorial Day in Palm Springs is calling me.

J. Crew bikini top and bottom: I love a red bikini or, really, a red anything.  This one is simple and the strings make this particular style look good on almost every body type.

Dorothy Perkins Black Aztec Crossover Dress: First off, I love the pattern.  Second, this dress is the perfect minimalist vacay dress (and can also serve as a cover up!) that can take you right from daytime to night.

Forever21 Classic Straw Fedora: A hat is a MUST when I’m outside in the sun for a long period of time.  Not only does it keep me cool but it also prevents sun damage on my face and scalp.

House of Harlow 1960 Robyn Sunglasses: I love pretty much everything HOH1960 but these frames are just really f-u-n and chic.

Sam Edelman Gigi Sandals: I have these in neon too.  They’re super comfy, simple and look good with almost everything.

Shiseido Sun Protection Lip Treatment SPF 36 PA+++: Lips are often neglected but if you’ve ever had sunburn on your lip, you know to always apply lip balm with SPF.  I can speak from experience, guys.

Redken Color Extend Sun Solar Screen SPF 12: Blonde hair can fade and oxidize fast when in the sun for too long so it’s VIP that I apply a spray with SPF protection and, as a bonus, the SPF also protects your scalp.

Kate Somerville SPF 55 Serum Tinted Sunscreen: It’s very inaprop to wear a full face of foundation at the pool or beach but yeah, with my rosacea and hyperpigmentation, I never go full on bare faced.  This face serum is the perfect solution to my problem since it not only has SPF 55 but it’s a serum (e.g. lightweight) and it’s tinted so it actually hides most of my imperfections.

Hawaiian Tropic Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami (vote for me!)

If there’s one thing I’m vehemently passionate about, it’s SPF and safe sun.  I was featured on BellaSugar.com last May for Skin Cancer Awareness Month and was honestly SHOCKED at how many people commented on my story, saying that “vitamin D is good for you” and that you don’t really need to wear sunblock.  With that shocking fact said, I’ve partnered with Hawaiian Tropic (yes, the sunscreen that smells like coconut!) in a contest with two other beauty bloggers – I could win the chance to go with them to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami this summer!

Vote for me HERE.  You just have to “like” the page (I promise they won’t spam you) and then scroll down to vote for me.  Oh, and you can vote more than once, btw!

BONUS:

To make things a little more interesting, if I do win, I’ll do a week’s worth of beauty and fashion giveaways as soon as the winner is announced, and guys, they will be GOOD prize packages, I promise.  You help me, I help you.
