Ideal Woman Collection by Allie Pohl

When my friend Katie tells me that I need to meet someone, I listen.  Allie Pohl, a very talented artist and jewelry designer, just moved to LA from Denver and we planned a little girl date at Shutters by the beach in Santa Monica so we could discuss LA and her collection, Ideal Woman, over cocktails.

Now, I wasn’t exactly sure what kind of “art” Allie was into exactly, since when I asked Katie about it she said “she designs vaginas,” in true Katie fashion.  Allie filled me in on the actual story, vaginas included.  Allie created a series of sculptures using Barbie and Chia Pets to explore the cultural trend of women not wanting any body hair, which is what led to her Ideal Woman collection.  “I was captivated by the shape of the midsection and started to explore different ways to appropriate the shape,” she told ELLE.com.  “Creating a jewelry line was a way to bring my mesage into pop culture and simultaneously be a part of pop culture.”

Personally, I’m obsessed with the mirror version and what’s really cool about these necklaces is that most people would never guess what it actually is, until you explain it and they go “OMG, that’s awesome,” which is what I get every time I wear mine.  As a bonus, Allie is an all-around awesome girl and I’m sure we’ll be enjoying many more beach cocktails together.

This Week’s Online Shopping Haul

For me, this week has been just a little bit crazy.  I never considered myself a “stress shopper” but alas, I think I might just be that since last night happened.  I decided that I was going to buy myself four things that I’ve been coveting but haven’t had the, for lack of a better word, balls to actually buy myself.  You know what?  I deserve it.  And I can’t wait for everything to arrive…god bless online shopping.

Jessica Elliot Double Floating Finger Candy Ring: My friend Chelsea had a similar ring that she scored from Forever21; however, they’re totally sold out so of course, I am forced to buy the version that costs $175.  C’est la vie.

Weekend trip to Las Vegas(!): My good friend Maura was assigned a spa story that just so happens to be located in Vegaaaaas (she’s a very fancy Lucky magazine senior editor) so she asked me if I wanted to come out a few days early to hang with her.  Actually, her exact email said “don’t you LA people go to Vegas like every weekend?”  Yes Maura, we most certainly want to. And this time, we WILL.  I bought a Delta flight going to Vegas and a Spirit (?) airlines ticket for the way back to LA.  The “?” after Spirit indicates my desire to not crash and die since I’ve never heard of this airline.

Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica: I blogged about this a-pause-mazing moisturizer back in March after receiving a few mini samples of the product and absolutely loving it.  My skin is like the sahara 90% of the time and this is the first moisturizer in a looong time to actually do the trick, which is exactly why I don’t mind spending my actual hard-earned money on this product.  And note, I hardly ever actually buy my own beauty products so that should say a LOT.

T by Alexander Wang One Shoulder Dress: I bought this dress in the “sage” green color about two weeks ago after trying the dress on at Fred Segal.  I wore the sage version to Soho House the other night and loved it so much that I decided I needed the black version as well.  A woman can never have too many LBD’s, you know?

Jewelry Obsession: Haute Betts

So I’m iffy about the new movie Beastly (coming out on Friday) but if there’s one thing I’m not iffy about, it’s the jewely line Haute Betts, which Vanessa Hudgen’s wears in the new flick.  I’m totally obsessed with the “Gypsetter” collection which is a mixture of jewels with the old-fashioned camp style bracelet that I used to make back in the day.  It’s like childhood memory chic!  The Haute Betts line is known around Hollywood as a mixture of bohemian and rock n’ roll and has a ton of celeb fans like Ashlee Simpson, Katie Cassidy and Annalynne McCord and, of course, Vanessa Hudgens.

Vanessa stopped by the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills and met with Heather Betts, the designer, for a private preview of the Beastly Collection and the collection even features a “Lindy” bracelet, which is a one-of-a-kind piece created especially for the film and Vanessa’s character in the movie, Lindy.

Holiday Gift Idea: for your fashion-forward mom

So I recently fell in love…and it was with this Guy and Eva Alexis ring.  What I love about this modern piece is how it looks from the side; besides being awesome, it’s like an upside down hollowed out teardrop, if that makes any sense at all.  Oh and no green fingers- my major pet peeve.  The Alexis ring is made of rhodium (and hence, nickel-free) and jet black cubic zirconia for some real sparkle.  What mom doesn’t love a pretty ring?

mark Ironclad Ring

So I have to give it up to mark, as in Avon’s mark, because they really do have amazing jewelry at  really affordable prices.  Right now I’m loving the mark Ironclad Ring that you have to admit, looks super chic and expensive but retails for only $14!  And since I’m not one to wear really expensive jewelry, I knew this ring was the perfect statement ring to add to my collection.  Who needs to spend a ton of money on accessories that won’t even be in style 8 months from now?  Not me.  mark has had quite a few pieces that I’ve really enjoyed over the past few years- way to go, mark.

The next big thing- Twitter jewelry!

So I recently came across this amazing new jewelry line, Survival of the Hippest, and had to share. My obsession with Twitter has grown oh so much over the last few months and quite frankly, I blame my iPhone app.  However, I digress.  As much as I try to pretend that I don’t check my Twitter feed at least 20 times a day, these trendy necklaces and bracelets are my newest obsession.  I’m already planning out what Trending Topics I want (#FF and #Fail are a must) and of course, a gold @Jamie3983 bracelet.  Duh.
