Charcoal: good for alcohol poisoning, drug overdoses and, yes, even your SKIN…
I had an fabulous case of Montezuma’s Revenge pretty much the minute I got back from my recent TULUM trip, which I was pretty excited about (insert sarcasm here). I saw my dentist a few days later (for this post) and she handed me two charcoal pills for my stomach. I was confused, but she explained all of the amazing benefits that charcoal has.
To start, hospitals have been using it for years to treat alcohol poisoning and drug overdoses (and, in theory, it also works for food poisoning). Charcoal actually attaches itself to toxins (in the stomach) and, in turn, absorbs the toxins before they get into your bloodstream. For skin, a similar reaction occurs- the charcoal attaches itself like a magnet to oil, bacteria, dirt, etc. and then all the bad stuff gets washed away when you rinse your face. It’s kind of simply, yet brilliant.
The Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Charcoal Mask is my latest charcoal obsession. While it can’t cure alcohol poisoning, it DOES absorb all that oil and impurities that I mentioned before (like a magnet). My skin felt realllly smooth and soft after I used this baby and my pores were non-existent.
