Here’s a fact: your hair can’t grow in thick and full if you have dandruff or really any extra dead skin clogging your hair follicles. As someone who occasionally gets a case of dandruff (it’s SO annoying, trust me), I can personally attest to the fact that I’ve tried almost everything to get rid of it…but here’s one thing that I literally JUST LEARNED:
If you suffer from dandruff, chances are you have used an anti-dandruff shampoo to fight the flakes, and then switched to your regular conditioner to deliver soft, silky hair. But did you know that this switch negates* nearly half of the flake-fighting potential of your shampoo?
*Unilever testing shows you lose almost half of the active ingredient, zinc pyrithione
Yeah…I didn’t know that either. All those times I would use an anti-dandruff shampoo and then finish off my using a deep conditioner from Redken, Bumble & Bumble or one of my other favorite hair brands…UGH. But seriously, I’m not exaggerating when I tell you I literally said “wait, what?” when I read the above fact from CLEAR.
I obviously had to test out the new CLEAR Complete Scalp Care Anti-Dandruff Conditioner, combined with the matching Shampoo now that I know the real deal. The set is clinically proven to relieve dandruff symptoms with zinc pyrithione (with regular use). Infused with cucumber and mint, you get a whiff of a delightful fragrance and, of cours, a rich lather…perfection.
The results? I was honestly SUPER impressed. Turns out the little bit of dandruff that I had by my part line went away completely after one wash and now that I know the little fact that I have to use the COMPLETE set together, I feel like it won’t be coming back any time soon.
The whole experience of “matching sets” really got me thinking and I ended up talking to dermatologist Dr. Francesca Fusco about other “sets” that should go together (that you wouldn’t normally expect).
Exfoliator + Self-Tanner – Want that “I just got back from vacation glow” in the height of winter? To get an even, smooth artificial tan, the key is to exfoliate. Begin with a body brush, a cleansing polish or a loofah, paying particular attention to knees, elbows, knuckles and ankles to remove patches of dead skin. Then, follow with your self-tanner.
Moisturizer + Hyaluronic Acid – Harsh temperatures and winds can leave your face feeling extra dry. When your moisturizer isn’t enough, pair it with a hyaluronic acid serum. Hyaluronic acid is a moisture magnet that draws moisture deep into your skin and even plumps up ne lines and wrinkles.
Body Lotion + Oil – Dry skin isn’t just reserved for your face – it can happen all over. Try “spiking” your favorite body moisturizer with a few drops of a body oil, which will make it more effective and provide extra hydration.
Facial Mist + Moisturizer – Moisturizers are most effective when applied to slightly damp skin. To make the most of your application, spritz a facial mist first, then, add your moisturizer on top.
SPF + Everything – SPF complements everything! SPF is the most potent anti-ager and women tend to forget this, especially during the winter. What’s the correct order? Start with your moisturizer, wait five minutes, then follow with your broad spectrum sunscreen.
