The Monday Rundown

Lemon, quinoa, avocado, cilantro chickpea salad: As of late, I’ve been really into quinoa so it was pretty clear that I would love this salad that also happens to consist of several other ingredients that I love: avocado, cilantro and chick peas.  Granted, I know a LOT of people hate cilantro so I’m sure you could take that out of the recipe and be just fine.

Jouer Pochette: I was in Portland for New Year’s Eve this year and my friends and I were all gawking and ahhing over Nadine’s little pink pochette from Jouer Cosmetics!  It’s the perfect size for going out since you can fit your cash, ID, credit cards AND iPhone inside.  Of course, I immediately got one in brown.

House of Harlow 1960 Talon crystal cuff: By now you all know about my obsession with all things House of Harlow 1960, so it should come as no surprise that I found yet another new piece that I love.  Talons.  And crystals…I mean.

Plum & Bow Metallic Cat Pillow: I find this metallic cat pillow to be both ironic and awesome, especially since, if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I recently adopted two new cats of my own.  The best part about this pillow is that it totally looks like a real cat when styled amongst other throw pillows on the bed.  If I didn’t already have two real cats of my own, I’d totally get this.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Launches Mobile Make Up School and Partners with Christina Ricci!

MAKE UP FOR EVER just announced
the launch of its first-ever mobile tour, designed to bring education to consumers in an engaging way, teaching them how to actually do their own make up, not just have it applied.  I like this already.  You may remember this ramble from back in April when I visited the LA store.  I really like how the brand makes a true effort to educate their customers and actually teach you how to use their products properly instead of just trying to sell you more products.

As part of the Make Up Bag Remix concept, MAKE UP FOR EVER’s team of professional artists will take a look inside consumers’ make up bags and teach them how to properly use what they already own, regardless of the brand, as well as overhaul products that are the wrong shade or texture. They’re basically bringing the same techniques used by wardrobe stylists in the closet to style consumers’ make up bags at their innovative mobile Make Up School. The idea is to make your make up bag work harder for you.

Consumers are invited to book appointments for 30 minute one-on-one make up bag evaluations inside the Make Up School, where a professional artist will go through their bag, provide an interactive, hands-on lesson explaining how to apply their products, and show them how to supplement what they already own to create their most flattering look. Each client will walk away with a new make up bag, a custom face chart detailing how to use the products they brought, and a list of any additional products recommended by the artist to round out their look. A professional photographer will also be on-site to capture each client’s “after” look, which will be uploaded to an album on the MAKE UP FOR EVER USA Facebook page.  Love this.  Make sure to check out MakeupBagRemix.com to see if they’re coming to an area near you.

Hate Your Stomach? Wish You Had Bigger Boobs? You DON’T Need Plastic Surgery. Try These Beauty Products instead.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-plastic surgery BUT, if there other options, why not try those first?  Believe me, if there was a cream that could’ve helped my former nose, I would’ve tried it. Ha.  I’m a fan of the above surgery alternatives…what do you guys think?

Fusion Beauty LiftFusion Eye LiftWrinkles result from facial expressions along with the loss of key skin components: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. And while a lot of women resort to injections, this formula delivers similar results with out the high price tag and pain.

Bliss Fat Girl SixPack: I’m not into the whole miracle fat-reducing product myth thing but when I tried this product, I was pleasantly surprised.  The targeted tummy-toning gel contains a powerful blend of six actives to assist in toning and firming: caffeine plus amino acids, creatine, oat kernel extract, latex-rich manilkara tree extract, menthol and a special botanical extract. They’re all delivered with a built-in nubbed applicator, designed to strategically massage the formula into your skin.  It can’t hurt to add it to your fitness and healthy-eating routine, right?

Rodial Skincare Boob Job: Probably the funniest of the bunch, I love this product.  Granted, I don’t need a boob job but for someone who does, this might actually help out a little.  Myrrh resin increases the number of fat cells, promoting the volume around the bust area, while wheat proteins revitalize and lift, increasing radiance and smoothing skin.  Why not?

Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme: I have mixed feelings on lip plumpers.  Some people say it stretches out your lips and will eventually cause wrinkles, but others think it’s a miracle product.  What do I say?  Do what you want!  Too Faced uses a potent quadra-delivery system that combines vitamin E, collagen-booster MaxiLip and Dehydrated Marine Sponge to stimulate blood flow, promote fullness and re-hydrate with the body’s own moisture for a long-lasting effect. Moisturizing doses of avocado and jojoba oil condition to ensure a smooth, plump pout. WINNER.

Three Questions With Beth Behrs

I had so much fun at the L’Oréal Golden Globes party, hosted by their makeup artist Billy B and Beth Behrs from 2 Broke Girls, that I obviously had to ask her to be featured in my 3 Questions With section.  If you’re not already watching 2 Broke Girls, you SHOULD BE.  The show is absolutely hilarious, and so is Beth.  Here are her words of wisdom:

Q: If you could give your 22-year-old self any advice, what would it be?

A: Always stay true to who you are.

Q. What’s the deal with Caroline’s signature pearl necklace?  Did you have any say in the decision to go with that particular necklace?

A: Nope! (It) was all the brilliance of our costume designer, Traycee! Now I feel naked without it!

Q. What are your top three L’Oréal products and why?

A: Any of their lip glosses, mineral concealer, mineral foundation – because you can throw all three on and have a natural looking glow and it takes less than 2 minutes to accomplish!

So Good It Should Be Framed: Murad Rejuvenating Lift for Neck and Décolleté

I’m always on the lookout for the next best thing when it comes to neck creams, aka anything that will prevent me from getting the dreaded turkey neck.  Basically, the Murad Rejuvenating Lift for Neck and Décolleté is all kinds of awesome.  Now, I’m always skeptical when a product claims to work “in just one use!” cause let’s be real, but after reading all of the rave reviews on Murad’s website, I was really intrigued and had to try it out, duh.  The patented formula is designed to firm, even tone and smooth skin texture by diminishing sagging skin and wrinkles associated with the effects of hormonal aging on the neck and décolleté.  Like I said, I try lots of neck creams and this one is definitely going to be put into my rotating skincare regimen for awhile…

Golden Globes Viewing Party

My girl Kelly is infamous for throwing the best theme parties…so good, in fact, that I can’t even describe them in an accurate words.  And yes, I AM wearing my maid of honor dress from my BFF Dawn’s wedding in August 2011; I paid $400 for this thing, so I might as well get some use out of it! Don’t judge me.  I picked it out and it’s PRETTY, minus the white wine stains.

But back to the Globes viewing party…we sipped on SkinnyGirl cocktails and watched the show.  Of course, my girl Kristen and I made numerous jokes, the room was shocked/weirded out with Jodie’s speech, and, of course, I secretly envisioned a “thank you” from Ben Affleck during his acceptance speeches.  All in all, it was a fab night, as expected.  Kelly is truly a master of theme parties!
