My 2011 Tan-spiration

Every year around this time, it hits me (once again) that I am incredibly pale.  I spent years trying to fight it, years learning to accept it and even more years trying to find the best products to give me even just a subtle hint of color.  Ironically, even at my most tan, I’m still paler than most of my friends but I digress.  With every new summer season comes a ton of new “innovative” and “revolutionary” self-tanning products but honestly, sometimes the classics really are the best.  Here are my latest faves…

LANCOME Flash Bronzer: This product was made famous in the beauty world by Lucky magazine’s Beauty Director, Jean Godfrey June, and after trying it out for myself a few years ago, I’m totally hooked.  You get real, natural-looking color with a subtle hint of shimmer that makes the skin look all illuminated.

Dolce & Gabbana Animalier Bronzer: It’s new, it’s limited-edition and I love it.  Obviously.  Besides the fact that it’s probably one of the most glamourous beauty products ever, this bronzer actually really is awesome but I can’t lie- I really only bought it because I invisioned myself opening it up at a bar and looking like Sophia Lauren.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Spray-On Perfect Legs: I used this product for the first time during Halloween (in an ironic way) since I dressed up as Snooki.  I was totally surprised at how a-mazing it actually was.  My legs looked super tan, smooth and the spray didn’t come off until I literally scrubbed my legs in the shower.  I’ve also had this on and dipped my feet in a hot tub and it totally stayed on, which is the true test.

My current “tan-spiration”: Mary Kate Olsen (who I don’t normally think looks very good) looking bronzed and gorgeous in this amazing robin’s egg blue blazer and blonde highlights to die for.  I also kind of love her snake bracelet.

Summer Cocktail: Chandon Brut Mojito

It’s summer and, to me, summer means fun and cocktails galore.  Chandon is a brand I was just recently alerted to and here’s a delish recipe from the Napa-based wine experts…a spin on the classic mojito!  Chardon takes this minty mojito to a sparkling new level with this refreshing summer cocktail.

  • 2 oz. Chandon Brut Classic
  • 1 oz. 10 Cane Rum
  • 1/2 oz. simple syrup
  • 7-10 mint leaves
  • Juice from 1/4 lime
  • In a cocktail shaker, muddle mint leaves with simple syrup and lime juice
  • Add rum and shake with ice.  Strain into glass filled with ice
  • Strain into glass filled with ice
  • Top with Chandon Brut Classic and stir
  • Garnish with mint sprig

Sponsored Post: e.l.f.’s 7th birthday!

Who doesn’t love a birthday party?  I was recently alerted to the fact that  the super cute makeup line e.l.f. cosmetics is celebrating its 7th birthday and in honor of the celebration, they’re giving away 7 makeup brushes with any $30 online purchase!  This is an amazing deal.  I’ve always been a fan of the e.l.f. line mainly because the products are awesome and, hello, they’re also super affordable. Make sure to check out their Endless Eyes Pro Eyeshadow Palette (which just so happened to be featured as one of Oprah’s favorite things, btw) and my other favorite the new Natural Radiance Blusher which sells for, get this, ONE DOLLAR.

Two Point Oh LA’s 2nd Annual Picnic at Griffith Park

Moving to LA was hard for many reasons but I always say how much I especially miss my blogger friends.  About a year ago, I joined a great LA-based blogger organization called Two Point Oh LA and on Saturday, we celebrated our first birthday with the second annual Two Point Oh LA picnic in Los Angeles’ Griffith Park!

The weather was absolutely perfect and Kelsi, the group’s founder, did an AMAZING job setting up the girliest and most stylish picnic imaginable with some fantastic sponsors such as PopChips, SoleSociety, LATHER and Pop Beauty with gift bag items in the “Gifting Tent” from some of my faves like Bare Escentuals, Redken, NYX Cosmetics and a gigantic chocolate chip cookie from Neiman Marcus(!).

My girl Kristen even had her own “crafternoon” section where she DIY’d tote bags courtesy of SoleSociety.  Love.

Just some of the amazing desserts (cake baked by Kelsi!)

Bliss Fabulous Skin-Reviving Rubberizing Mask

Every once in awhile I like to do a mask but when I heard about Bliss’ Fabulous Skin-Reviving Rubberizing Mask, I HAD to try it (rubberizing is what really caught my attention- not gonna lie).  Designed to temporarily envelop the skin’s surface, this rubber mask absorbs into the skin, peeling back to reveal purged pores and renewed skin.  The mask is also packed with skin brightening ingredients like vitamin C and Bilberry, which help refresh the skin.

Once I realized that I had to actually mix the mask myself, I was a little hesitant since I’m definitely lazy, ha, but it was surprisingly super easy and honestly kind of fun to make! The only thing that was more fun was the rubber peeling itself.  Hint: make sure to apply more than you think you need, which makes the peeling experience even better.

The pack contains six masks (one per week = six weeks worth of rubber fun) for the very reasonable price of $38.

DIY Desk Organizer: Diptyque Candle Empties!

You’ve probably seen at least one of my countless mentions about Diptyque if you read this blog.  Obsession would be a mild word for how I feel about this line of candles and so when I saw this super creative way to use the “empties,” I had to share.  One of Hanky Panky’s employees tweeted to Diptyque about how he uses the empty candle votives to hold pens, pencils and other desk knick knacks.  So genius!
