Drybar West Hollywood Does It Again

Confession: if I could only have one beauty indulgence for the rest of my life, it would be blowouts. I wrote about LA’s Drybar back in April 2010 when the first store opened in Brentwood and crazy enough, my obsession proved to be quite popular. The downside? Brentwood. Anyone who lives in LA knows about how much the traffic totally blows and as a Hollywood resident, I nearly fainted when I found out that Drybar was opening a West Hollwood location!

Finally! The WeHo location is less than a mile from my apartment and get this- there’s a FREE PARKING LOT behind the salon. It’s the little things, ladies. I stopped by the WeHo location before my friend Justin’s surprise 30th birthday party a few weekends ago and got yet another amazing blowout. There’s something about Drybar that just makes me happy. The decor is absolute perfection, they always play some fantastic girly movie (past movies include Clueless, Mean Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You, etc.) and the stylists are super sweet and actually listen to what you what you’re saying which can sometimes be rare in stylists.

Dove Haircare Sponsors the LA Film Festival

Thanks to Dove Hair, I got the chance to attend the highly coveted LA Film Festival last Saturday and attend the screening for “Terri” starring John C. Reilly.  There were a few LA bloggers in attendance and we got to hang out in the Jameson Filmmaker Lounge before the movie started as well as take some pics in the Dove Hair Photography Studio, featuring their Dove Nourishing Oil Care collection, which I adore.  What’s great about the Nourishing Oil Care collection is that this collection smoothes hair and eliminates frizz without making hair greasy, which is what almost always happens with any product with oil gets involved.  The movie?  Well, it was good but definitely not a RomCom or any kind of “fun” Saturday night movie!  Luckily, Nadine, Roxy and I (plus our plus one’s) ended the night with a Katsuya dinner and cocktails. 🙂

Blowfish Malibu Spring/Summer Collection

In additon to never turning a party down at Soho House, I will also never reject any kind of pedicure.  I was invited to a fun night of pedis and sandals courtesy of Blowfish Malibu and so basically, I couldn’t ask for a better night.  I sat back, enjoyed some champagne and got a pedi with a gorgeous coral Essie color and chatted with my girl, Allison McNamara from FabSugar!

Of course, the perfect ending to any pedicure is…a new pair of shoes.  I left with the Makai sandals in grey, which I actually wore out of the nail salon and on to the Radio Shack party (where LMFAO performed) and they were chic yet still really comfortable.

DIY Neon Necklace Statement Piece

I’ve always been a crafter but over the years, I definitely haven’t dedicated as much time to “creating” as I should. Michael’s, pretty much the best craft store ever, approached me with a challenge to create a summer statement piece and naturally, I was thrilled to take them up on the offer. Confession: I’ve been dying to make this amazing neon statement necklace that my DIY friend Kristen created a few weeks back. Ok, so my statement piece wasn’t exactly my idea but nonetheless, I’m still super excited about it and totally obsessed with my creation (inspiration above).

Kristen got her necklace at Forever21 but I actually already had an old rhinestone necklace that I bought for Halloween and my Moulin Rouge Christina A. costume. I then used Michael’s CraftSmart Acrylic Paint Neon Paint Pot to paint each individual rhinestone, which gave me the best neon colors and since I didn’t really need much paint to cover each rhinestone, the little pots were the perfect size to purchase.

BONUS! Michael’s has a great online coupon, valid starting July 3! Get it HERE.

The result!

FTC Disclosure: Michael’s provided me with a $50 gift card to purchase any items I needed to complete my statement piece but all opinions are my own.

Boot Camp H20 from Gilt City LA

I’ve always been a water sports girl.  Lately I’ve been totally obsessed with all of the sale sites (Gilt, Living Social, Daily Candy, Sugar, etc.) but this week, this amazing deal caught my eye from Gilt City LA.  Sure, I’ll have to drive all the way to the Pacific Palisades but I’m sorry…still totally worth it.  There’s an eight package class that’s a unique cross-training program of swimming, aquatic plyometrics and water polo (yes!).  This intenese cross-training regimen is the brainchild of two experts in matters aquatic: Igor Porciuncula, a Brazilian physical therapist, swim instructor and Red Cross lifeguard and Lana Shapiro, a USA Swimming-certified swim coach, swim instructor and Red Cross lifeguard.  But yeah…I’m not kidding myself, this class is going to be ridic hard.

Barney’s New York and NARS Pre-Fall Celebration at Soho House West Hollywood

I will never say no to a party at Soho House. Plain and simple.  Add in one of the most decadent stores ever (Barney’s New York) and one of the best makeup brands of all time (NARS) and there’s not even any room for negotiation.  Barney’s and NARS partnered to celebrate the pre-Fall collections and guests were treated to an amazing Q&A with Francois Nars himself and Barney’s Fashion Director, Amanda Brooks.

The event was held in one of Soho House’s private rooms and we got to listen to Francois discuss his vision for the brand as well as hear Amanda discuss Fall 2011 fashion trends like rich burgundy’s, greens, teals, lady-like details and unconventional hemlines. And hint, pointy toe heels are definintely back.  I’m also loving the NARS pre-Fall makeup collection (pictured above) because how amazing and rich are those colors?  The blue eyeshadow is seriously intense, in a good way.

Not the best photo but NARS makeup artists where available for touch-ups and I attempted what I like to call “the starter bold lip” using NARS “Manhunt” lipstick, which I’m now obsessed with.

The Monday Rundown

Tobias Wong’s The Times of New York Candle: There’s something very old-school classy about reading a newspaper. This New York Times-inspired candle mimics the scent of newsprint and I’m totally obsessed. Act quickly, this candle is limited-edition.

Robyn Rhodes “Naomi” Earrings: These are supper summery and fun. I love the outer stitching and how you can make them match practically anything.

M.A.C Cosmetics SemiPrecious Mineralize Eye Shadow in “Unsurpassable”: I used to be so confused when I’d see all these colors swirled together and wonder how exactly they translate to any kind of shade on the skin. M.A.C has done an amazing job coming up with all sorts of fantastic color combos, my fave being this green/grey/purple combo.

Milk With Sprinkles: This is so simple yet so brilliant. What better way to encourage yourself (or kids) to get that extra calcium boost we all need?
