BECKLEY blogger styling competion!

Tonight was definitely a fun night.  I was invited by the super chic BECKLEY Boutique in West Hollywood to style a mannequin that will be displayed in their store for a few weeks(!) for customers to vote on their favorite look!

Naturally, I was elated and honored.  It was a tough decision but I ended up going with the look to the left – a Camilla and Marc bow and arrow dress topped with a brown studded suede jacket and gold chain link bib necklace (both not available online). This is a very “Jamie” outfit; you’ve got a cute dress (that shows the cleavage), studs and a statement necklace, all of which I totally love.

I have to admit, the other bloggers who are participating in the contest are definitely some tough competition so please vote for me, if you like my look 🙂

Make sure to “like” BECKLEY on Facebook, follow them on Twitter (and vote for me!)

Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash

The last few weeks have been a little stressful and I’ve been starting to see the effects on my skin.  After about three weeks of chin break outs, and a few cheek blemishes as well, I decided it was time to switch up my cleanser and try something new.  I went through my “beauty closet” and discovered that I had stored away Kate Somerville’s Gentle Daily Wash for future use and I immediately took it out for a test run.  The results?  Amazing.  I don’t know why it’s just so hard to find a good cleanser?  Kate’s Gentle Daily Wash is sulfate-free and is especially great for sensitive skin (like mine), since it contains soothing lavender.  My skin cleared up in (I’m not even kidding you) two days.

The Monday Rundown

New series alert!  Every Monday I’m going to bring four things to you that are currently making me happy.  A little happy dose for the worst day of the week! Sigh.

T By Alexander Wang One Shoulder Dress: I tried this dress on at Fred Segal a few weeks ago but they didn’t have my size (as I mentioned here).  I couldn’t resist so I ended up ordering the LSD (Little Sage Dress) from ShopBop.com and liked it SO much that I then ordered the same version in black.  The bad news?  Both versions are now on sale and I paid full price.  Get them on sale (since I didn’t)!  The sage version is marked down to $99 (from $165) and the black version is marked down to $82.50 (also from $165)!

Birthday Cake in a Jar: As of late, I’ve been consumed with the idea of cakes in a jar.  It’s weird, I know, but I’m thinking it may be a side affect from this super strict diet that I’m currently on (more about that later…so not Monday appropriate).  This recipe looks fairly easy, for the baking-retarded like myself, and is pretty and festive.

NARS Nail Polish in “Orgasm”: Everyone raves about the color “Orgasm” from NARS and I’ve always agreed – the color is pretty and works well on almost all skin tones.  And then I came across the nail polish version and became and even bigger believer.  I want, no, I NEED this color for summer.

“All You Need Is Love” hand painted wall decor: The famous Beatles quote is, simply put, just lovely hand-painted on a wooden plank.  The artist makes these in Northern California and can even customize color and size.  I’m contemplating this for my entry way.  Thoughts?

Yayoi Kusama for Lancome Juicy Tubes

Like I always say, I’m a total sucker for pretty packaging.  Lancome recently partnered with Yayoi Kusama, world renowned Japanese visual designer, to create six cute packaging designs for the Juicy Tubes, a lipgloss classic.  They’re limited-edition so snap these up quickly!

Father’s Day Gift Ideas

If your dad is like mine, he’s nearly impossible to shop for.  I’ve seriously bought the man at least 15 navy blue and/or black Lacoste shirts and at this point, I was almost totally at a loss for ideas.  I decided to get a little creative this year and here’s what I’ve come up with that will work for MOST dads.

CaseMate Waddler iPhone Case: My Dad carried around a Zack Morris cell phone for years and I admit, he still hasn’t upgraded to a Blackberry or iPhone but if he did, I’d totally get him this hilarious case.  Who doesn’t love penguins, right?

Crate&Barrel French Fry Seasoning: I’ve inherited a lot from my father – my nose, my feet, my face shape, my freckles…and, of course, my love of all things potatoes.  We share a mutual love of french fries and I remember him making them in the oven growing up (and then the sweet potato version as we got older and more health-concscious).  These amazing seasonings would’ve been the icing on the cake, so to speak.

Violight UV Cell Phone Sanitizer: Pretty innovative, if you ask me.  We spend hours upon hours man-handling our cells every day and when I think about all the bacteria the screen receives, I kinda get nauseous.  My Dad has always been preachy about germs and keeping things clean so I know he’d totally get into this little gadget.

Jack Spade Bacon Money Clip: Money clips are “so money,” no pun intended.  And men love money…and bacon.

Bachelorette 101: Bachelorette Party Gifts For the Bride

As I mentioned back in January, my best friend is getting married this August and I’m the Maid of Honor!  I admit, I’m a wedding rookie but since I consider myself a creative person with above average internet research skills, I felt pretty confident that I’d be able to throw a killer bachelorette party and do all my other MOH duties.  Oh yeah, I’m even getting down with the “MOH” abbreviations!  Anyway, the bride-to-be, like myself, isn’t into the whole cheesy put a penis on everything theme (thank god) but I still want to give her a traditional bach party…so what’s a MOH to do?  Well here’s what I’ll be gifting the bride…make sure to check back for pics from the actual bachelorette party in Atlantic City (weekend of July 8th!) and the actual wedding in Westchester County, NY (weekend of August 12th!).

Frederick’s Perfect Present Bra: All the “bride” rhinestone-encrusted tank tops kinda make me sick so when I saw this super cute, yet still totally sexy “perfect present” bra and panty set, I knew my girl D had to have it.  Plus, it’s got blue so the whole “something old, something new” thing is covered.

White Trash Sex Coupons: I think it’s super important to one, give something funny and personal to the bride and two, keep the personal gift within your sense of humor(s).  D and I have been sharing laughs for the last 13 years and we’ve had many inside jokes within the white trash rhealm.  If you don’t get it, that’s ok…but I know D will die when she sees this.

Booty Parlor Don’t Stop Massage Candle: You know I had to incorporate some beauty into my gifts.  This candle isn’t just any ordinary candle…it’s also massage lotion, once the candle has melted the wax down a bit.  It smells of exotic sandalwood vanilla (love) and the wax actually has good-for-you ingredients like shea butter, jojoba and vitamins A and E.

CoverGirl Beauty Bar for the MTV Movie Awards

I’ll never say no to an event lounge…and I’ll especially never say no when the lounge is hosted by one of my favorite brands, like CoverGirl.  The MTV Movie Awards were a slight blip on my radar this year, but not really that important since it’s pretty much guaranteed that the awards will be overtaken by Twilight and Harry Potter (and after watching, I was obviously right) so yeah, I was excited to check out what the CoverGirl Beauty Bar, hosted at NINE ZERO ONE salon in West Hollywood, had to offer.

Luckily, my friend Kelsi was working her social media thing in the HPNOTIQ Harmonie lounge, which just might have been the cutest lounge I’ve ever seen.  Seriously, I’m not even really into the whole girlie girl decor thing but everything was purple and sparkly and there were cupcakes and candy everywhere – as someone on a very strict diet at the moment, I had a very hard time controling myself and yes, I did indulge in this ridiculous oreo cheesecake pop that Kelsi said was “truly amazing.”

Annnyway, there was also a CoverGirl makeup area (with the fabulous Amy Nadine!), a FakeBake spray tan room and WELLA hair care was there (another personal favorite!) on top of random celeb spottings like Rumer Willis, Karina Smirnoff, Stephanie Pratt, Demi Lovato, and the the cute cheerleader from The Hard Times of RJ Berger!
