So I recently saw the movie “Black Swan” and instantly fell in love. As a former ballerina I can appreciate the way Natalie Portman trained so hard for the role and she danced beautifully, I might add. In all honesty the movie was, yes, super creepy but I find myself entirely inspired…
Question:I need your beauty help! So embarassing, I have so many blackheads- more than I’ve ever had! Nobody can see them, obvi, unless they are close up and personal but I feel gross. What do I do? Do I need a facial??? I’ve never had one!- “S”
Hi “S”!
I feel your pain. I get tiny little blackheads on my nose that only I can see but it drives me nuts! The best (and easiest) thing to do is to yes, get a facial. The facialist will use a special tool to clear out the blackhead bacteria and while it is a little uncomfortable (especially around the nose area), it’s totally worth it. Once you’re “cleaned out” you should use a blackhead specific product that also helps to minimize pore size. Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner Blackhead and Oil Remover is, in one word, a-mazing. It’s formulated with alpha and beta hydroxy acids that help loosen blackheads while absorbing excess oils from your pores, preventing new blackheads from forming.
As far as facials, you don’t need to go anywhere fancy just for a good extraction. I’d suggest checking out SpaFinder.com and finding a semi-decent spa that has good reviews.
So I’ve been using Koh Gen Do’s Cleansing Spa Cloths for the past few days, which is why I was super excited when I heard the news that the cast of Glee loves them almost as much as I do. According to their makeup artist, Jennifer Greenberg, ‘the Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water Cloths are the best that I have used. Our actors on Glee also love them and we can barely keep them stocked.”
What’s great about these cloths (and I’ve tried them all) is that the cloth itself is organic and contains mineral-rich cleansing spa water that wipes away makeup and skin impurities. The thermal water is from Yumura Hot Springs in Izumo Japan, which I love because I had the best baths EVER while traveling through Japan. As soon as this hits the presses, I’m sure Gleeks everywhere will be running to Barneys. 🙂
So I’ve always been a primer skeptic but recently I tried out Fusion Beauty PrimeResults Anti-Redness Primer and I have to say, I’m now a believer. I always thought primers were all marketing hype to get you to spend more money on additional items that you “must use” but ok, I can admit when I’m wrong…and I was wrong this time.
What I love about this line of primers (there are 3 others!) is that you can pick one that’s uniquely for you. I chose the Anti-Redness Primer because well, I have a mild case of Rosacea that drives me bonkers. The shade of this product instantly neutralizes the appearance of inflammation and transformed the red patches on my skin into a lighter, peachy tone. But if you have acne, need some help fighting wrinkles or think you need some brightening up, there are 3 other primers from Fusion Beauty that are right for you. Love it.
So I don’t have to remind you…if you read my blog, you know about my Gwen Stefani obsession. Well, the queen of red lipstick has just been announced as the newest face of L’Oreal Paris and more specifically, the face of the brand’s new Infallible Le Rouge long-wear lip color. SO gorgeous.
“I can’t believe I get to be one of the L’Oreal Paris girls,” Stefani told People.com. Gwennie is joining the ranks of other Hollywood A-listers like Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Eva Longoria, who all also serve as faces of L’Oreal. “To get to work with such a modern, talented group of people is really exciting. I’m a lucky girl,” says Stefani. Lucky indeed, Gwen. Lucky, indeed.
The first commercial featuring Gwen will air during the Golden Globes this Sunday so stay tuned.
So my best friend got engaged a few months ago and as the wedding approaches quickly (August!) I’m starting to get on the prowl for fun, quirky gifts and bridal solutions for the bride-to-be. I came across Star Candy’s line of bridal panties and I have to say, I’m loving them. I’m not normally one for bedazzled panties (at least not since 2002) but these are actually really comfy yet also really sexy, so I can give them my “official” seal of approval.
So the summer I moved to LA, I bought my father his first pair of “real” sunglasses. And when I say “real,” I mean his first pair of sunglasses that cost more than $20 and had actual UV protection in them. Seriously. I don’t understand how or why anyone would wear sunglasses that don’t actually protect your eyes but that’s also exactly why I was so excited when I heard about the newJee ViceMelanin Lenses that feature BNL Melanin Photochromic technology that provide SPF 140 for your eyes! This is some serious eye protection, ladies.
While 99% of frames out there do offer some UVA/UVB protection, the lens technology incorporated into Jee Vice’s newest frames offers an added layer of protection for the skin around the eyes and teh retina using Melanin, which is a naturally occurring pigment in the body that acts as a sunscreen. What differentiates the Melanin lenses from the UVA/UVB protection is that in addition to absorbing and deflecting harmful rays, they also protect from High Energy Visible (HEV) light! HEV is often referred to as “blue light” and can damage the retina, which leads to impaired vision over time. With the SPF 140 in these glasses, your eyes will be safe from both cosmetic and internal sun damage.
My mind was literally blown away when I found out all of the benefits of Melanin lenses- better clarity (sharper images, clarity of vision), protection of the retina and prevention of macular degeneration. On top of that (for those of us who are vain, myself included), these lenses also prevent the skin around your eyes from wrinkling. Serious bonus.
