The O2 Diet

So I bought a copy of The O2 Diet a few months ago and I only now just decided to get my ass in gear and really get going with it.  I just finished up the four day cleanse and ladies, I lost almost SIX pounds.  Yes, you read that correctly.  SIX POUNDS IN FOUR DAYS.  I saw the results almost immediately- after only one day, my stomach was flatter and I felt full with none of my usual late night food cravings.  Now when I say “cleanse,” a lot of people (including myself) get freaked out.  Most women have tried one of those liquid cleanses at one point or another but The O2 Diet cleanse includes FOOD.  In fact, during the four days, I ate more food than I usually eat and shhh, I even skipped a snack or two because I simply just couldn’t eat another thing.*

The O2 Diet is based on foods that are high in antioxidants (mixed with lean protein), which protect the body from damage by free radicals so you’re not only eating yummy fruits and veggies and losing weight, but your skin will also glow and your overall energy level will go up.  In fact, antioxidants have been proven to also prevent cancer and slow down the aging process.  Believe me, I can attest to this 100%.  I never believed that I would actually lose any more than two pounds during the cleanse but now I’m officially hooked.  This is a realistic diet, in fact, I can’t even really call it a diet because it’s really more of a lifestyle change.  My favorite O2 discovery?  Artichokes!  They make a brilliant snack and they’re jam packed with antioxidants and other benefits (including benefits for your skin!).  I have myself the weekend off and now I’m about to start Phase II where I’m allowed even more food and some food items that I wasn’t able to eat during the cleanse.  Stay tuned for updates.  I just made a shopping list and I’m already excited.

*note, the snacks are crucial to keeping your metabolism up so try not to skip anything, if you can.

A return to my skincare regimen: Biologique Recherche

So, I’m sad to admit that over the past two months I’ve strayed away from my go-to skincare regimen that cleared up my adult acne and gave me clear skin…and now, I think I might be having an adult acne relapse!  Lesson learned- stick to what works!  You may have read my rave review on NadineJolie.com of one of the best skincare lines I’ve ever used, Biologique Recherche.  I tried out a new bar product, and while it works very well for some people and definitely did help with my rosacea, it didn’t help my breakouts at all and actually made the broken out area very dry and irritated.  Yesterday I decided to call it quits with the bar and went back to my own little miracle (in three bottles), and my skin is ALREADY better and getting back to normal.  Stick to what you know works, kids…and also give Biologique Recherche a whirl.

If You Have to Go Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You

So the title reads true for me, my mother never told me to go outside if I have to cry.  It sounds harsh, but it’s probably some good advice for any woman in the business world.  I was pleasantly surprised by Kelly’s book.  When I bought it, I was expecting 200 pages on how smart and awesome she is and basically a love letter to herself but what was actually published is an honest and real tale of  how she basically hit rock bottom (with some scary drug habits) before she started People’s Revolution and ended up at the top.

When I read the first reference she made to cocaine and crystal meth, I was so shocked that I actually read the sentence twice.  I thought “my GOD, she owns a business, she really wants to put that out there?” but that’s just Kelly Cutrone for you.  She’s real.  And smart.  And I’m the first to admit that I actually like and respect the woman, especially when she goes into how she tried to convince her daughter, Ava, that she shouldn’t buy into the whole Disney princess thing. “From Snow White to Belle, every woman is damaged until some guy shows up and makes everything okay.”

She failed, but it was a valient effort.

I’ve had many bosses in my PR career…some were smart, some weren’t so smart.  Some were nice, some were mean bitches.  The thing about PR that has always bothered me is the lying and “spinning” of the truth.  And, according to Kelly, “why shouldn’t a publicist tell the truth?”  I  too have a real issue with lying and being dishonest, which is why a smile actually came to my face when I read a quote from Kelly’s 4th chapter :

“Speaking the truth has made me some enemies.  But it has also gotten me much further than I would have otherwise progressed in life.  Let’s face it: being nice does not always remove obstacles, and in fact sometimes it creates them.  That’s why, the next time you hug someone you secretly despise and say ‘it’s great to see you,’ I want you to bite your lip.  You don’t have to say anything you do not mean, and I urge you not to.”

Breakfast cupcakes from Baked by Melissa?!

So um, needless to say, I love Baked by Melissa cupcakes.  And now, I’m totally jealous that I’m not in NYC because if I was, I would absolutely be taking advantage of this great new deal.  For $4, you get a cup of coffee and 3 of their new breakfast cupcakes (pictured above).  Um, how delish does the Chocolate Chip Pancake look?!  It’s exclusively at their new Union Square shop and breakfast is served from 8AM -12 noon.  Hmmm…maybe my parents can mail me a few?  Dad?  Anyone?
