Reader Question: What’s a great (and cheap) face wash for acne-prone skin?

So I’ve been getting a lot of questions about skincare lately.  My reader, “C”, says:

Hi Jamie,

I loooove your blog!  You always feature amazing products!  Lately I’ve been breaking out a lot but I’m completely broke.  What’s a good face wash for my skin if I break out a lot?

Personally, I’m a believer that a classic is a classic for a reason.  Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne Wash is a long time favorite of beauty editors, bloggers and consumers alike.  The packaging isn’t pretty or flashy but this stuff really does the trick with it’s pimple-fighting ingredients like 2% salicylic acid.  Even though most acne fighting products are made to destroy oil and will usually dry out the skin, my normally dry skin stayed moisturized and zit-free while using this.  However, the trick to fighting acne is finding a good skincare regimen and STICKING to it.  So C, if you decide you like the Oil-Free Acne Wash, make sure you use it consistently to see results!  Good luck and let me know how it goes. =)

Xo,

Jamie

Halloween 2009: Philosophy i love candy corn

So, um this is awesome.  There’s something about this Philosophy i love candy corn 3-in-1 shampoo, shower gel and bubble bath…I think it reminds me that I’m totally still a kid at heart and what’s more exciting for a kid than candy corn and Halloween?  Candy corn makes me go back to my elementary school days…how about you guys?  This would make a great gift for a Halloween party hostess too!

Stuffed Cupcakes

So last month I raved about Baked By Melissa cupcakes but I have a new obsession…Stuffed Cupcakes!  Sadly, they’re only available in New Jersey right now but my theory is that soon you will soon be spotting them in NYC and across the country cause they are DELISH.  What do I love about these cupcakes?  Well, for one, like the name says, they are stuffed and two, they are soft and delicious.  Get them now.

It’s time for Fall…

So even though LA doesn’t exactly have a traditional fall season, I still feel the need to surround myself with my usual fall traditions from NYC…little pumpkins from the supermarket, apple cidar and Lamas Beauty Pumpkin Spice Polish.  I’ve been using this facial cleanser for some time now and I have to say, it’s really impressive.  Not only does it smell good enough to eat but it really does a great job of exfoliating and cleansing the skin.  Anyhow, I recently came across this yum recipe that’s not only amazing for your skin but also tastes amaze… this is now added to my list of fall traditions…leaves or no leaves in LA.

Want to make your own?  Kayla Fioravanti, ARC Registered & Certified Aromatherapist and the Co-founder and Chief Cosmetic Formulator for Essential Wholesale has an awesome recipe for a Honey Pumpkin Spread that’s especially good for dry skin.

Ingredients:

  • 5 tablespoons canned organic pumpkin
  • 1 teaspoon agave sweetener
  • 1 tablespoon softened organic butter

Directions:
Combine everything together and mix well to make a smooth paste.  Make sure your face is clean before applying and spread the Honey Pumpkin Spread over your face in an even layer.  Leave on for 15 minutes then rinse off.

I Do Tattoos? Yes.

So I know that wedding season is pretty much over but I came across this really unique product and had to share.  It’s called I Do Tattoo.  I know…I was scared too at first but this idea is actually pretty genius.  What is it exactly?  Well it’s a blue colored temporary tattoo.  Personally, if I were to get married tomorrow, I would have no idea what blue item to wear…and I Do Tattoo makes it pretty easy.  You can simply apply one of their blue temporary tattoos and you are covered- bad luck be gone.  Think tattoos are tacky?  They definitely can be and most people probably don’t want their dolphin ankle tattoo from 1994 showing on their wedding day, right?  Well you can just apply it somewhere discreet like your upper thigh or back, etc.  And there’s a bonus- you get TWO tattoos…one for practice and one for the big day…AND the blue case that they come in also serves as a cute photo frame when you’re done.  Win win!
