Book Review: Confessions of a Beauty Addict

So one of my favorite bloggers, Nadine Haobsh, just published her second book, Confessions of a Beauty Addict. I pre-ordered my copy on Amazon but, of course, completely forgot that I did this…so what a nice surprise when I got the package a day after it was released!

If you haven’t already heard, Nadine has an amazing blog, JolieNadine, where she gives honest and straight-forward beauty advice and even gives her readers a sneak peek into her personal life. Anyway, back to book- in Confessions, Bella Hunter gets fired from one of the most prestigious mags in the biz and ends up at the service-book, Womanly World. Pretty similar to what actually happened to Nadine but juicer because there’s also some guy dramz going on. I absolutely L-O-V-E-D this easy, fun and care-free read and highly reccomend it. =)

V-Day (not VD) Gift Guide: The Mix Tape

So as one of the many single New York women, Valentine’s Day isn’t usually a day that I enjoy. However, I am trying to remain slightly open and will even go as far as featuring some unique (and not disgustingly cheesy) gift ideas. The first that I’ve found (that doesn’t induce nausea) is this super cool USB port by Suck UK that looks just like a cassette tape circa 1987. Love it. You can upload your favorite MP3s onto this for a modern “cassette mix tape” for a boyfriend OR even a BFF. $20 at Henri Bendel in New York.

Blue Eyeshadow Is Back…According to Gucci

So is blue eyeshadow making a big comeback? Personally, I’ve always loved the whole 80s crazy colored eyeshadow thang but then there have always been those people who said blue blue eyeshadow is the beauty equivalent of wearing white after Labor Day. Who knows? I think rules are silly and as long as you look GOOD, who cares? Right? This image is from the Spring 2009 Gucci Ready to Wear show and I’m really LOVING the whole look. For a scaled down version, try using just blue eyeliner, similar to this one from MAC.

Bliss Spa’s Super Bowl Sunday Alternative!

So it’s no secret that I really don’t like football. I like the size of the men that PLAY football…but the game itself, not so much. When I found out about what Bliss has planned for the Super Bowl, I thought “genius”! Hopefully you can attend on game day at a Bliss Spa near you. 😉

Beauty Flashback: Avon Odyssey

So my mother used to always order beauty products from the Avon lady while I was really little. She, of course, used to drag me along to any Avon parties and I’d always be there if the Avon lady came over so naturally, I had to get something too. My first perfume was Avon’s Odysssey perfume. I’m sure my mom only bought it for me to shut me up but little did she know that to this day, I can smell Avon Odyssey on someone a mile away. I can still remember looking at the bottle and feeling so grown up because none of my friends had “grown up” perfume like Odysssey. Memories…

“Come On Baby Get the Lighter, We’re Gonna Start a Fire…” – No Doubt

So one of my BFFs from college just moved to the city and I’m totally inspired by her motivation to decorate and make her small space chic and homey. My room often looks like a glorified door room and I think that maybe, just maybe, if I decided to kick it up a notch I might actually feel like an adult, ha. Maybe? Anyway, one of the things I love about C’s apartment is that she bought an electric fireplace! There’s nothing homier than a fireplace and yeah, they’re pretty rare to have in Manhattan…for obvious reasons. I automatically assumed it had to have cost big $, but she insisted that she found one online for under $500! Check out a similar one here. While I don’t have room currently, my next apartment is DEF gonna have some faux coziness.
