Salon Review: Platinum Salon

So some of you may remember back in early December when I blogged about how I was in desperate need for some kind of change…well I did it. I got bangs. I don’t know why I made this into a huge production (do I ever know why?) but I think I was scared since I have so little hair. Anyhow, I was offered the opportunity to review a new and chic spot in Chelsea called Platinum Salon. Rick, the owner and head stylist, has done an amazing job with this new beauty mecca. Not only do they offer all the hair services you can imagine, but they also nail services, waxing and intriguing body treatments like Brazilian slimming and body wraps and herbal detox tea wraps.

I had the pleasure of one of Platinum’s “platinum” stylists, who all have over 10 years experience, who was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and patient- even during my “are you sure bangs will look ok? You can tell me the truth” rant. With Kristen Bell’s photo as my inspiration, we took the plunge and I have to say, I left with a BIG smile on my face. I will definitely go back to Platinum and would reccomend it to my friends…especially since the prices are NYC reasonable and the service is top-notch. It’s hard to find a quality salon in New York City that doesn’t cost a fortune but still does a good job. Platinum Salon is it.

Maybe WE are just not that into YOU

So I saw “He’s Just Not That Into You” and I have to admit, I’m definitely disappointed. I expected more from a movie that boasts Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore, etc. and hello- the whole point of the book is that MOST guys WON’T be that into you. So, not to spoil the ending, but if most guys are just not that into you, then how is it that most of the characters had a happy ending to their story line?

I came across this article on Glamour’s site and it made me feel a little better for wasting $12.50 on another hopeless fairytale.

To Cuddle Or Not to Cuddle…Is it Cheating?

So I came across this article on CollegeCandy and I almost died. I AM the “other girl” that this chick’s boyfriend is friend-cuddling with. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not some cuddle whore that goes around from one taken man’s bed to the next but I’ve had my fair share of cuddle time…some innocent, some not so much. The thing that got me going about this is that this is EXACCCCTLY how things got started between me and my first love.

We met my very first day of college- September 2, 2001. I saw him and there was an instant attraction; I used to think it was “love at first sight” but I now believe that that concept is complete and utter bullshit. Ha, I’m not bitter or anything. Anyway, let’s call the soul crusher “P.” P and I were instant friends with our sarcasm, dry witt and a shared love of going out to eat and spending as much money off campus as possible. He loved my innonence and kindness and I loved just pretty much everything about him from his crooked smile to his hidden Boston accent to his confidence to his hippie flip flops (aka Birkenstocks). We bonded instantly and were soon cuddle buddies. One problem- he had a serious girlfriend who went to school in Massachusetts.

Long story short, I often slept in his bed. Nothing EVER happened, though no one ever believed me when I said that. We would just lay there and talk for hours about everything…I loved it. Being close physically to someone, even when it’s not sexual, can be an amazing experience and that’s why the girl who wrote the article should definitely question why her boyfriend feels the need to do this with someone BESIDES her. As someone who has been the non-girlfriend cuddling partner, you SHOULD be worried, girl.

More about P later…
