Reader Question: How To Get Rid Of dark under eye circles

I’ve been reading your blog since 2008 and I know you can help me with this question. I have THE WORST dark under eye circles and I don’t know what to do! It’s so frustrating.

Hi SK!

Well, to start, dark circles can be caused by a few things (lack of sleep, allergies, etc.) so you may want to try fixing any issues there first. I know that I get dark circles under my eyes when I’m particularly congested as a result of a cold, allergies, etc. so it helps to take an antihistamine or talk to your doctor.

IF you’ve tried everything, the next step is really to increase circulation to that area! The darkness, unless it comes from any of the above reasons, is caused by sluggish blood flow (a result of aging, unfortunately) so it’s important to use products that will help INCREASE blood flow to that area which will, in turn, lighten you up. I always say that Retinol really is the go-to cure for all things aging skincare and when you combine it with a lightening ingredient like Vitamin K and caffeine, it’s even better for this specific issue. Lastly, concealer is the no-fail option when you’re in a rush. Some of my favorites are below.
