Three Questions With Jenn Falik

So if you’re thinking that you recognize Jenn Falik, you’re probably right.  Jenn has been featured as a beauty & style expert on pretty much every channel ranging from The Today Show to The View to E! News and now, I got the scoop on her latest project, Beauty BFF on MSN, an original new web series on MSN Lifestyle and Bing Video.  The web series will cover everything from how to achieve the looks you crave (but may be scared to attempt on your own) to the latest trends in hair, makeup and skincare.  The series will premiere TODAY and will run through Fall 2010 and luckily, we were able to steal 15 minutes of Jenn’s time and grill her with some burning questions:

Q: What are your favorite new spring beauty products?

A: 1-) Darphin Hydraskin Essential.  This is the perfect moisturizer- it smells amazing (clean and fresh), is packed with super softening ingredients like butterfly lavender and organic shea butter, and creates a nice smooth base for makeup.  I also love how it keeps my skin hydrated all day- I hate when I put on creams and a few hours later, I feel the need to re-apply.

2-) Tarte Lip Stain in “Amuse.” This is the juiciest lip stain ever- I never thought a stain could be this glossy and actually last, but it does. And the fact that when I travel with it, I don’t have to worry about it leaking all over the contents of my bag is an added bonus.

3-) Le Metier de Beaute MAGIC.  This is very cool- a translucent cream glaze that transforms any powder color formula- blush, eye shadow, even powder into sheer stains, creams and glosses for lips, cheeks, eyes and face.  It is also great as a lip primer.

4-) Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Invisible.  I try and wash my hair as infrequently as possible- and this is my new go-to especially because of the volume it adds- and this spring, I am feeling big-ish hair BIG time.  The formula features gentle starches to absorb excess oil and protect build up, while vitamin E and wheat protein strengthen and protect the hair shaft.

Q: What is the best part of your job and what is the worst part?

A: The best part of my job is having an excuse to talk to big wigs in the beauty and fashion biz that probably wouldn’t give me to time of day otherwise.  The worst part, hmmm, I guess I would have to say the early mornings, but to be honest, I have always kind of been a morning person so they don’t bother me too much.

Q: What advice would you give yourself 5 years ago?

A: Well,  I got married 5 years ago and wish I had told myself to get a spray tan, wear my hair in some sort of cool messy updo, and wear false lashes for my wedding.  Seriously.  I kick myself on a regular basis over this.  Sad, but true.

Editor’s note: We think you’re gorgeous Jenn and we’re sure you looked fabulous at your wedding too 😉  For more tips and news from Jenn, follow her on Twitter or visit www.JennFalik.com.

Three Questions With Delilah Rabina, founder of HotBox Los Angeles

So you may have seen my first “Three Questions With…” feature where I had the honor of interviewing Tory Burch!  In this addition, I sat down with an amazing woman, Delilah Rabina.  Delilah is the designer and founder of HotBox Los Angeles, student, PR Assistant and did I mention store owner?  I’m still in shock that she manages to juggle (and be successful) at all of these things and here are her answers to my burning questions:

What was the final decision maker that really pushed you to start your own fashion line at age 19?

My passion for finding my own style led me to start Hotbox Vintage in 2005, from there my real inspiration to begin a fashion line came from loyalty to my customers who have supported me along the way.

How do you find the time to own a store, run a clothing line and work in the celebrity division of a PR company?

When you really enjoy doing something it doesn’t feel like work; However, when it does come down to getting work done, nothing would be possible without the help I receive from my friends.

What are your three fashion must-have and three beauty must-haves?

My fashion must-haves return to the basics.  A great pair of jeans is always a must (I love my DL1961 jeans), a cozy cardigan and accessories area definite must to finish any look.  For me, a beauty must-have is sunscreen-based foundation and I never leave the house without my Bloom lip gloss.

Three questions with Tory Burch

So I’m practically giddy right now.  I had the pleasure of meeting Tory Burch a few months back when she held a breakfast at her Meatpacking District store in NYC.  She’s even more lovely than I could’ve imagined and quite inspiring as well.  I loved hearing all about how she gets inspired by her travels (especially Venice- my favorite city ever) and how she got started and plans to grow her business.  Enter 2010.  I’ve decided that 2010 will be my year to finally accomplish some of my long-term goals that I’ve been kind of putting around for the last few years and being a major procrastinator.  I’m living in LA now (on my own!) and I find that I meet some many interesting, passionate people that I made the decision to dedicate the occasional blog post to people worthy of all our time.  Tory is one of those people that you need to get to know.  As a woman, mother and entrepreneur I’m very excited to get Tory’s take on advice, career and her biggest guilty pleasure.

If you could give your 24-year-old self any advice, what would it be?

Beauty-related, I would tell my younger self to never leave the house without moisturizer with SPF.  I wear Pat Wexler’s Tinted Moisturizer now.

What do you love most about your career?

I’m lucky enough to have a day job I feel passionately about.  Every day I’m surrounded by the most creative people, both design-wise and business-wise.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

I have a soft spot for fresh beignets.  Heavy on the powdered sugar.

Thanks, Tory!  For even more, follow Tory on Twitter!

Best of 2016

I think we can pretty much all agree that 2016 was definitely a big bag of sh*t, right?  Well, for me, in particular, it was actually the hardest year of my life.  I lost my little sister in April of this year.  April 20th, to be exact.  The same day that Prince died, and essentially from the same cause.  Melissa was 29 and it was very sudden.  I plan on talking more about everything at some point, but right now it’s still a little too raw for me and I want to really think about a meaningful way to bring honor to her memory.

I almost didn’t do this post because, initially, I thought “what happened this year that I’m even proud of?”

Get the look: Chrissy Teigen at the Grammys

chrissy teigen grammys

I interviewed CHRISSY TEIGEN for my Three Questions With series back in June and that’s when I pretty much instantly formed a girl crush on her.  And then THE GRAMMYS happened and I (along with the rest of the internet) was like “whaaaa?” She looks a-mazing, which naturally inspired me to come up with this get-the-look. To be fair, I don’t know what Chrissy’s makeup artist and hair stylist actually used, but these products will get you similar results, minus being a supermodel, obviously.  Side note, I’m also equally obsessed with Chrissy’s JOHANNA JOHNSON dress

Oral-B with Brooke Burke and Operation Smile breakfast

So I was recently invited to a breakfast hosted by Oral-B with Brooke Burke and Operation Smile at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood.  I’ll put this out there, I’m so not a breakfast person…which is really just because I’m so not a morning person BUT when I was offered the chance to do a quick solo interview with Brooke and get a delish breakfast at Cecconi’s, I just couldn’t say no.

Oral-B teamed up with Brooke Burke and Operation Smile to announce that they would be donating $25,000 to Operation Smile, which is a worldwide children’s charity that provides free surgeries for children with cleft lips and cleft palates.  Now not only is this an amazingly generous donation, but Oral-B is also providing a pretty hefty rebate to customers who buy their electric toothbrushes in honor of this new movement.

I was also really interested to learn a litttle more about dental health as well.  I’ve been using the Oral-B ProfessionaCare 3000 that was in the event gift bag and I’ll be honest- I LOVE it.  My dentist told me just last month that I should consider using an electric toothbrush (and not the kind I had been using that takes 1 AA battery and costs like $10 at the drugstore).  I kind of scoffed…mainly because I’m lazy and then took this invite as a sign that the teeth gods want me to have less plaque in my life.

According to Oral-B, the rechargeable oscillating rotating toothbrush can help remove up to 100% more plaque than a regular manual toothbrush and also gets in deep between the teeth and along the gum line for a thorough clean, which helps prevent gingivitis.  Gross.  The brush I’ve been using retails for $99.99 but after the mail-in rebate, it’s really only $49.99.  Not a bad price for clean teeth, my friends.

Stay tuned for my “Three Questions With” Brooke Burke interview this week…
