Here’s a little factoid about me that you probably didn’t know: I hate MAYONNAISE. Personally, I think it’s a gross, creamy condiment that’s completely unnecessary on food, BUT it does have some beauty benefits:
Moisturize your hair// The creamy white stuff is great for dry, damaged hair since it contains oils and protein that helps fill in hair follicles and increases shine. It also contains vinegar, which is great to help restore your hair’s pH balance.
Hydrate your cuticles// Try soaking your fingertips in mayo every so often (for about 5 minutes) to help strengthen and restore your cuticles and fingernails.
I don’t feature very many products in my “You Need This” series quite simply because, well, I take telling someone that they NEED something VERY seriously. Life is full of little luxuries, especially when it comes to beauty, and this GLAMGLOW THIRSTYMUD HYDRATING TREATMENT is honestly a-mazing, and worth every penny. So what is it? Quite simply, an ingredient-packed moisture mask. What makes it awesome is that it’s full of hyaluronic acid, a moisturizer that melts into skin, and clay particles that help lock in the moisturizing ingredients, leaving your skin soft and glowing. Now, THIRSTYMUD (I also love the name, btw), specifically calls out that it can be used on airplanes (e.g. “in flight”), which brings up an interesting question:
Have you ever used a facial mask on an airplane?
I, for one, have NOT. I was at an event earlier today and brought up the question to a few other beauty bloggers, and two of the ladies said that they have, in fact, used a mask on a plane. “A” cited that she didn’t care what she looked like but, for me, I’m more concerned about the fact that I’ll most likely forget that I have the mask ON and do something spazzy like touch my face or decide I need to put a scarf on. That’s classic me and after thinking about it some more, I’m now really curious about trying out a plane mask or, as I decided to call it, a “Plask.” GlamGlow says that you can apply the mask at the beginning of the flight and leave on for the full duration, which I assume means leave it on for as long as you want since a flight can range anywhere from 45 minutes to what? 24 hours? I’m headed to New York in May for a family function so I’m gonna test out this mask (ahem), PLASK, then.
I’m constantly preaching about how much I lovemy hair extensions, but back in January I decided to go au naturale and let my real hair grow out for a bit. Why? Why would I ever give up long, thick hair? Well, for starters, after about eight months straight of having the best extensions ever (keratin-tip, I’m telling you), I started to get nervous about how short/damaged my real hair was underneath everything. Luckily, the keratin-tip hair extension process is pretty gentle (as long as you take care of your extensions) so I really only had about an inch of split ends once they were out…and that’s basically like just not getting a hair cut for that long- no biggie.
Over the years I’ve MASTERED the art of my fine hair and how to beat what I annoyingly ended up with but, hey, I’ve got PLENTY of other amazing qualities, thankyouverymuch. Here are a few of my trade secrets for fine hair…
We all know one thing: skincare is my favorite. I love, LOVE testing the latest and “greatest,” especially when a brand comes out with something new and innovative. I try not to play favorites (ok, most of the time), but right now I’m loving a these three products, and here’s why:
NICOLE RICHIE is just freaking awesome in my book. I’m obsessed with her style, her show, Candidly Nicole(and if you haven’t seen it then you need to) and now, her purple hair. She did a nice little fake out on Instagram before actually dying her hair purple, and I give her props for that cause we all love a good prank…but then I got to thinking about how you actually upkeep candy colored hair. I have a hard enough time with my blonde hair and can’t imagine having to deal with anything more than I already do. So, who can actually rock purple hair? I turned to one of my favorite colorists in the biz, GEORGE PAPANIKOLAS, Matrix Celebrity Hairstylist and also the guy who occasionally gives me the BEST balayage.
“Anyone who is fashion forward (can rock it); Considering purple hair doesn’t happen in nature, you don’t need to be too concerned with your skin tone, but you will need to adjust your makeup. Too much and you can start to look like a clown. Nicole tends to keep her make-up natural, which is a nice combination,” says George. And, turns out, I was right when it comes to maintenance. “The upkeep is a full time job,” says George. “The roots need retouching every few weeks, and the pastel toner every few days, otherwise it turns into an uneven platinum blonde.”
I’ll admit that I’m intrigued by the pastel hair color trend, especially since I’m a big Gwen Stefani fan and she basically had hot pink hair for years, but I think for now I’m gonna stick with blonde…though, I seriously love purple hair Nicole.
