I was truly honored to be invited to a lunch last week celebrating the #StigmaFree campaign, a partnership between Philosophy’s hope & grace initiative with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). The national effort focuses on shattering the stereotypes associated with mental health, which is something I think is becoming increasingly important in today’s society. I had the chance to chat with E!’s Catt Sadler, who actively support’s Philosophy’s program, on all things NAMI, beauty and, of course, her best advice to her younger self. P.S., you NEED to follow her on SnapChat (@CattSadler), cause she’s hilarious.
Q: What inspired you to get involved with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)?
A: I feel like this is one issue (mental illness) and there’s such a stigma attached to it, and a lot of shame attached to it, and there are a lot of, apparently, diagnoses with people getting treatment. It concerned me. This is very much a teen thing, a young people thing, and a lot of suicides are attached to it. It hasn’t affected me, per say, personally but I was just very moved and touched by what’s going on with the issue itself. And I think that because there is a lot of ignorance involved with this it would be a good idea to take my time and shine a little light on this and also learn a little more.
Q: What are your top three beauty products and why do you love them?
A: Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum– it’s a game changer! I use it religiously every single day. It Cosmetics CC Veil SPF 50 Foundation– love the consistency, I use the color tan and I use my Beauty Blender sponge with it. It’s a nice, natural finish! Lastly, I love Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream-I put it everywhere- I’m very dry- I put it on my lips, my elbows, my cuticles, etc. and love it.
Q: What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?
A: Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen and stay out of those stupid tanning beds- they should be banned for life! And then also that you will always have the power. We put a lot of limits on ourselves and it’s natural to be scared of the future and the “what ifs,” especially at that young age and I wish I would’ve known then that I had the power. It’s not out there, it’s not something you go and get it…it’s within you.
