Because charcoal acts like a magnet to attract and absorb oil and dirt…
It’s not groundbreaking news that charcoal (i.e. carbon) is good for you. Oddly enough, they’ve been using charcoal for years in the ER to treat drug overdoses and alcohol poisoning since the mineral will actually attach to toxins and absorb them before they enter the bloodstream- pretty amazing actually. But when it comes to skincare, the recent charcoal trend has been everywhere and, hence, I’ve tried quite a few charcoal-packed lovelies. Here are four of my favorites:
The Best Charcoal-Infused Beauty Products
Boscia Charcoal Jelly Ball Cleanser
This jelly ball cleanser is pretttty prettttty spectacular, guys. For one, this kind of cleaning mechanism is new to the U.S. – essentially you prick the latex coating with the provided pick to break the balloon, and then you’re left with a legit ball of jelly. (I’m holding it while still wrapped in latex above). To actually use the ball cleanser, you lather it up and then massage it onto your face; it’s actually insanely fun to use and I usually giggle a little when I do use this.
Erborian Black Cleansing Oil
I was recently introduced to this brand and, gotta tell you, the products are amazing! I tested this cleansing oil, enriched with Japanese charcoal, a few days ago and my skin felt amazingly soft and clean right after. On contact with warm water, its silky texture transforms into a light emulsion and works really well to remove excess sebum and even traces of waterproof makeup (ahem, my eyeliner that never seems to not run down my face).
Biore Charcoal Acne Scrub
This scrub is specifically for acne but I actually think it’s fine for anyone as long as your skin isn’t super sensitive. The Biore version combines charcoal with salicylic acid, for that acne and break outs, but also good for exfoliation.
Miss Spa Bamboo Charcoal Clarifying Mask
Infused with purifying bamboo charcoal extract, this natural mask pampers skin as it locks in the clarifying formula to help absorb pore-clogging impurities. The soothing blend of botanical extracts help balance and calm redness, while vitamin B3 targets dark spots and unevenness to help reveal a more radiant tone. Love, love, love it.
