Bryce Gruber on The Millionaire Matchmaker and an open letter to Patti Stanger

So I found out months ago that my friend Bryce was being filmed for the hit Bravo reality show, The Millionaire Matchmaker, and when it finally aired last week, I was ecstatic to see how Byrce’s episode dealing with the infamous Patti Stanger had turned out.  Well…I was disappointed, to say the least.  I was always a fan of The Millionaire Matchmaker (and Patti, sort of) because I admired her honesty and directness and the fact that she’s a powerful woman who gets the job done helping some socially awkward rich men find whatever “dream girl” their rich asses envision for themselves.  Well, as of the first episode of the NYC season, I’m just done.  I lost all respect for Patti and the show after watching her openly judge Bryce with out even really getting to know her.

Here’s a question Patty…how can you claim to be the world’s best matchmaker with a 98% success rate (or whatever you claim) when you match people up based on the time period of filming your reality show, and not actually getting to know your clients before picking your idea of their “perfect matches”?  If you had REALLY gotten to know Bryce, you would’ve known how kind, open-minded and completely hilarious she really is.  And that’s a fact.  You claimed to have heard of her website, TheLuxurySpot.com, but clearly you’ve never read any of her articles because if you had, it would be obvious to you that there’s most certainly no “stick up her ass” as you so eloquently put it.  Do your job.  You claim to be the best matchmaker out there so do your research before making snap judgments.  Bryce is a semi-public figure and you could have easily found out more (and true) information on her by simply visiting Google.com.

When Patti met Bryce at Delicatessen (yes, I recognized the restaurant because it’s awesome), she had already referred to her as “Schnozolla” which instantly offended me and was Patti’s first strike.  Clearly Bryce is gorgeous and Patti should’ve taken the fact that Bryce is comfortable in her skin as a sign that maybe she’s mature?  Self-confident?  And maybe even, gasp, doesn’t care that her nose has a little bump because she knows that any man that matters won’t give a shit.  No?

I think maybe Patti got confused because she’s not in LA anymore, Toto.  She kept referring to New York as the “land of brunettes” and claiming she was from the “New York area.”  Really?  That’s funny because I’m a born-and-raised New Yorker and guess what?  I have blonde hair.  And so do a lot of my New York friends.  It seems to me that Patti was trying to fit right into any stereotype she could think of to increase her ratings (and justify her East Coast expansion) and Bryce fell right into that too, sterotyped as the typical “snobby New Yorker.”

Here’s a news flash for anyone who doesn’t already know- New Yorkers generally make fun of people from Staten Island, make fun of people who wear Ed Hardy and think anyone who uses a tanning booth is the biggest moron on the planet, because they are.  And you know what?  Even if Bryce was alone in her judgments, who cares?  Those would simply just be her preferences, right?  Bryce said she liked older guys, right?  And who did Patti pick for her?  Guys her own age.  When Patti’s LA millionaires say “I want a 22 year old with brown hair from the Southern California area” Patti says “ok, I’ll do my best” not comments like the below Tweet:

In conclusion, I will no longer support Patti or her show, not only because she unfairly judged Bryce but mainly because I now know that it’s all a big dog and pony show for TV and I’m so over that world anyway.

Three Questions With Diane Kruger

So I recently attended a fabulous luncheon at the Four Season in Beverly Hills in honor of Calvin Klein Beauty, the fragrance.  The fragrance’s face, Diane Kruger, was also in attendance (gasp!) as well as some of my favorite bloggers- Emily from CupcakesandCashmere.com, Annie from BellaSugar.com and Katherine Power from WhoWhatWear.com, just to name a few.  The lunch was delish and we all got to go around ask Diane a few questions.  Here’s three questions with Diane Kruger, as told by me. =)

Q: If you could give your 22-year-old self any advice, what would it be?

A:(chuckling) It would be to relax.  I was a model in New York when I was 21/22….and I wouldn’t want to be that age again.

Q: I heard that Karl Lagerfeld is your neighbor for your Paris apartment.  What kind of neighbor is he?

A: Karl is a great neighbor but he stays up very late!  He also always has groupies waiting for him downstairs, at all times of the day and night.  He’s also the only person in Paris who drives a Hummer and he owns nearly half the block and he’s constantly trying to buy my apartment.”

Q: What are your beauty and fashion obsessions?

A: I love fake lashes- I’m obsessed.  I’m currently using Cetaphil, L’Oreal Triple Active Jour Day, Kiehl’s Blue Toner and CoverGirl concealer.

Three Questions with Brooke Burke

So as you know, I recently went to an Oral-B breakfast with Brooke Burke and was actually given the opportunity to have a one-on-one interview with the TV host herself.  If you haven’t been living under a rock, you know that Brooke is the co-host of Dancing With the Stars, the host of She’s Got the Look, the Co-CEO of ModernMom.com, the President of BabooshBaby.com and author of the soon-to-be released book “Naked Mom.”  So yeah, she’s a busy lady, to say the least and here goes…three questions with Brooke Burke:

Q: What are your beauty secrets to stay so young-looking?

A: My number one tip would be that I drink lots of water.  I also exfoliate one to thre times a week and I love vitamin C serums, eye serums, etc.  I also eye patches when I’m getting ready for my shows…they really hydrate and help wake you up.

Q: If you could give your 22-year-old self a piece of advice, what would it be?

A: Know what you don’t know.  I can remember being 22 and thinking you have it all figured out.  Also do something that scares you…it’s so important to challenge yourself, take risks and lots of chances.

Q: Who surprised you the most on Dancing With the Stars?

A: I was very surprised to learn what a gentleman and how nice The Situation is.  He’s a very nice guy…I hope he’s gonna be around for awhile. (Note: this interview was conducted before The Sitch was voted off)

Oral-B with Brooke Burke and Operation Smile breakfast

So I was recently invited to a breakfast hosted by Oral-B with Brooke Burke and Operation Smile at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood.  I’ll put this out there, I’m so not a breakfast person…which is really just because I’m so not a morning person BUT when I was offered the chance to do a quick solo interview with Brooke and get a delish breakfast at Cecconi’s, I just couldn’t say no.

Oral-B teamed up with Brooke Burke and Operation Smile to announce that they would be donating $25,000 to Operation Smile, which is a worldwide children’s charity that provides free surgeries for children with cleft lips and cleft palates.  Now not only is this an amazingly generous donation, but Oral-B is also providing a pretty hefty rebate to customers who buy their electric toothbrushes in honor of this new movement.

I was also really interested to learn a litttle more about dental health as well.  I’ve been using the Oral-B ProfessionaCare 3000 that was in the event gift bag and I’ll be honest- I LOVE it.  My dentist told me just last month that I should consider using an electric toothbrush (and not the kind I had been using that takes 1 AA battery and costs like $10 at the drugstore).  I kind of scoffed…mainly because I’m lazy and then took this invite as a sign that the teeth gods want me to have less plaque in my life.

According to Oral-B, the rechargeable oscillating rotating toothbrush can help remove up to 100% more plaque than a regular manual toothbrush and also gets in deep between the teeth and along the gum line for a thorough clean, which helps prevent gingivitis.  Gross.  The brush I’ve been using retails for $99.99 but after the mail-in rebate, it’s really only $49.99.  Not a bad price for clean teeth, my friends.

Stay tuned for my “Three Questions With” Brooke Burke interview this week…

Gwen Stefani gets a wax figure

So since my love for Gwen Stefani is eternal, I’m actually surprised that I never questioned why Gwennie didn’t have her own wax figure.  When I first heard about this, I secretly (or maybe not-so-secretly) hoped that the Gwen look-alike would be at the Madame Tussauds in LA, which also happens to be right down the street from my apartment, but no- alas, it’s in Las Vegas.

The wax figure was revealed last week and Gwen (who, can you believe it, is 40!) stood and looked in awe at herself, immortalized in wax.  It’s reported that the Gwennie figure took over 500 hours to sculpt and cost $300,000 to make.  Crazzzzy.

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

So like I mentioned last week, I was invited to attend this year’s 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, courtesy of the fabulous Gucci Guilty fragrance.  Me = seriously ecstatic.  We met beforehand for some cocktails and apps at one of my favorites, Katsuya downtown, which just so happens to be right next to the Nokia Theater, site of the VMA’s.  As I sat and chatted with other blogger and web friends, it kind of hit me how totally lucky I am to get to attend such amazing events in LA…and when Katsuya gets brought into the mix, well there’s no going back from there.

After I stuffed myself with Katsuya’s Baked Crab roll and Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, we headed over to the show and went up to a VIP area, where they served even more food and alas, open bar.  Heaven!  Once the show started, I knew we were all in for a treat- my obsession with Chelsea Handler only grew stronger after such an amazing show…who doesn’t love a good meat-based dress, no?  But what would an award show post be without a little fashion recap?  Here are my three favorite looks from the night:

Audrina Patridge in this sparkly silver number…I have to say, I’m not always a fan of what Audrina wears but this dress is eye-catching and definitely VMA appropriate.

Evan Rachel Wood looks amaze in this subtle leopard Gucci number from Spring Resort 2011.  Evan also happens to be the face of Gucci Guilty but I’m totally not biased…love this dress.

Ashley Greene.  Well, normally this dress would be a little too frou-frou perfect for my taste but in this case, I like it.  It’s age-appropriate and I love the black and white.

The thing about the VMA’s is that they’re about fun, not necessarily high fashion.  A fun, sparkly, short dress is always a sure bet for the white carpet.  I was lucky enough to be sent an amazing little number from Nuova Vita and I’m totally into it.  This dress line is fab because the dresses come in several different colors and can be worn more than TWELVE ways.  Seriously. I was a little confused at first but I check out the site’s very idiot-proof videos and now I’m a dress-wrapping pro.  I opted for the one shoulder (a la Kim Kardashian) for this particular VMA event and mixed the cranberry color with pretty turquoise vintage earrings that my friend Tiffany got me for my birthday.  I can’t wait to try out the eleven other ways to wear this baby.

Belvedere’s Pre-VMA party at the Hollywood Roosevelt

So my love for the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is endless so needless to say, when I found out the top secret location of Belvedere’s Pre-VMA BELVE Music Lounge just happened to be the Hollywood Roosevelt, I let out a squeal of excitement.  My friend Jen and I walked down to the Roosevelt from my apartment and hung out by the famed Tropicana Pool, sipped on some delicious Grapefruit Belvedere Vodka and watched in awe as B.O.B jumped up on the roof and started singing his hit songs that they just will not stop playing on the radio.  The highlight was definitely the Grapefruit Vodka…I’d been dying to try it since Chelsea Handler featured it on her show.  It’s amazing and grapefruit is good for you so drink up.
